Many Final Fantasy fans will recall the Agni’s Philosophy tech demo using the Luminous Engine from E3 2012, which displayed an impressive look at the potential graphical fidelity of future titles. Today, Square Enix’s CTO (chief technical officer) Yoshihisa Hashimoto has departed the company, citing personal reasons. Hashimoto isn’t the only high level departure associated with Luminous — Julien Merceron, Worldwide Technology Director, left Square Enix for the same role at Konami.

Hashimoto collaborated with the Final Fantasy XIV: A Realm Reborn team during development to build a custom engine for the reboot, and was working with Luminous for use in upcoming next-generation Square Enix titles such as Final Fantasy XV. While Square Enix has assured us on multiple occasions over the last year that development is still going fine, it appears that work on the engine the game is built on still isn’t complete.

Hashimoto is succeeded by Remi Driancourt, general manager at Square Enix’s Advanced Technology Division.

I dunno about you,but the continuous departure of talented developer from a company can never be a good thing especially with the departure of many key developers during the past couple of years

It's going to be okay dude, Square will still have enough members to pull off FF and KH. Plus if they really need to they can find more people.

Yeah totally after like dozens of people leaving the company....dude something wrong is going on inside Square it's not a simple thing of oh they have enough members.....NO

When keyessential members that created the engine of your game, directed your game and programmed your game are leaving the company IN THE MIDDLE OF DEVELOPMENT OF A HUGE PROJECT,no it's not going to be okay

Capcom(just like Square) had a shitton of people leaving the company and look what happened to them after they left

You have two options here, one you can take my words as I am just trying to cheer you up and be nice to you! Or you could just yell at me and be a *** because I am just trying to make you feel better. Your choice!

Sorry the caps are just for emphasis I didn't mean for it to be yelling....my bad

Game's still going to use the engine. And anyway, working at Square since the Soft days is apparently stressful. People always come and go. A large chunk of the XIII team left after the game was released.
