I haven't really watched too many AMVs that have impressed me. Only two have stuck with me as impressive and well-done. I'm curious what others favorites are, though. The first one is actually the video that made me start watching anime to begin with.

I assume you mean anime only? If so, this is probably the best anime music video I've ever seen. I have a ton that I love, though, but this video really grows on you.

It has great editing and sync, the lyrics fit, and the video's atmosphere and song choice fit the feel of the movie. I also like how choppy it is because A) It doesn't spoil things, because you won't be able to tell what's going on if you've never seen the movie. B) It echoes the mind screw that is Rebellion, as well as Homura's mental state at that point.

considering I'm an AMV editor myself i have a pretty good idea of what it takes to make a truly great amv and when asked what the best AMV i've ever seen is one Amv comes to mind this amv isn't just any amv its art a pure and brilliant master piece Type Moon - Steel Fenders

When i first saw this Amv myself i thought that i had missed some of the episodes of the anime which was used to make this video but i quickly learned other wise this amv goes to show an editor at there best and far beyond it just look at this image of the making of 

 

From looking here you can see not only did the edit use a large quantity of footage but he also used photoshop to edit and improve clips to such a high level that youd have trouble recognizing them next to there original a video like this must of taken months of work and for that reason i believe this video to be the best AMV there is hands down

 

Also just to throw another Amv out there that sticks with me i suggest this amv very its excellent idea and comic humor
