Terra Battle is an upcoming smartphone game by Final Fantasy creator Hironobu Sakaguchi and Mistwalker that features strategic gameplay and even its own version of Bahamut. This week’s issue of Famitsu magazine provides the latest details on the game. [Thanks, Game Jouhou.]

Terra Battle will have a total of 30 chapters in its story, and that will include an ending. Once players beat the game, they can continue leveling their characters and fight tougher monsters.

Battles take place on an 8 x 6 grid, where the goal is to take out all the enemies that appear. Players will have about four seconds to freely move around the field. As far as micro-transactions go, players will be able to purchase “Energy,” which is used to recover stamina, continues that can be used whenever they get wiped in battles, or for a capsule feature.

The magazine report also reveals a “Download-starter,” which is basically a Kickstarter-esque idea, whereby Mistwalker will continue adding new features and content based on the total number of Terra Battle downloads.

Here’s a list of what we can expect from the Download-Starter campaign:

  • 100,000 downloads: New song(s) by Nobuo Uematsu.

  • 200,000 downloads: New characters by Hideo Minaba.

  • 300,000 downloads: In-game appearance by manga artist Nakaba Suzuki.

  • 1,000,000 downloads: A concert for Terra Battle.

  • 1,400,000 downloads: Commencement of figurine production.

  • 2,000,000  downloads: Development of a console version of Terra Battle.

Terra Battle launches worldwide in October for smartphone.

I'll download it and then swiftly un-install it. I support a console release 100% but I don't support micro-transaction riddled smartphone games.

Not even Agito?

Not even Agito?

I don't support smartphone gaming because it's quite simply not the way I enjoy gaming. So no, not even Agito.

Any reason in particular why? If it's controls, lots of them support gamepads. There's even a gamepad based of the Wii U's. Lol.

I'm not really a fan of adding extension gamepads to my phone to play something. Touch controls and micro-transactions are my main reasons though. I have played the odd time waster game here and there but any serious games I have on my phone are nearly all just GBA games emulated on the device. Again though, the touch controls aren't perfect but GBA games are nearly always tile movements any ways thanks to the d-pad so it's not really an issue. Spyro was a nightmare to play on it though..

Another thing is I don't find that Android is really supported as much as iOS so you tend to miss out on a lot or have to wait ages for certain games. I just don't find the smartphone gaming space is the place for me to be honest. I'm more than happy to have my 3DS or Vita on me for long trips or at home so I don't have to have my phone out all the time. If I'm out and want to time waste on my phone then I play a game of Yugi-oh GBA or Frozen Free Fall, it's not outstanding but hey that's boredom for you.

I think if I had a tablet I'd be more inclined to try games or something from the Playstation Mobile (Crash Bandicoot 1 was fun on a tablet) but I don't have such things and my Xperia S (while great) is rather small for some smartphone gaming experiences.

Fair enough.

Yeah, iOS is a bit more supported for some reason but the gap is always closing.

I don't really play mobile games much either to be honest. I really only play some of Square Enix's titles on my smartphone since it's the only way I can play some of the games like FF1, The After Years etc.

So what if it's Agito?

I don't support paying real money to make my game either easier or make in-game equipment that you can buy with Gils with real life money.....and those not even DLC those are actual in-game equipments so far from what I've heard about Terra Battle

My point with Agito was that Tabata, FFXV's co-director explained that you didn't need to pay money to fully enjoy the game.
