Just throwing it out there, but if you've played even a little bit of VIII again and are willing to give it a second shot, you've got guts. I can't imagine ever putting that game in my PS2 again, aside from testing to make sure it works before I sell my copy.

Well if I gave a piece of shit like LRFFXIII a try then FFVIII deserves a second chance

Last time I played I reached halfway through disc 2 and ragequitted

I made it to the very start of disc 3 before quitting. Looking back, I'm surprised I didn't stop sooner...

I just want to give the gameplay a chance, the plot can go **** itself

The gameplay kinda sucked too, to be honest. Whoever decided that drawing spell casts was a good idea probably didn't even know how much that would screw things up.

I quit Triple Triad when I got to Trabia and the rules were completely screwed up. It wasn't that bad going off of Balamb rules, but holy crap I hated the others.

And btw the only way to force the NPC to use the Balamb rules is to say no to them over and over and over and over again until they finally say f*** it we'll using the old rules

I didn't even know that was possible. Don't get why they had the option if they make you think it's pointless they first few times you use it...

How is Ito's battle system in that one?

The battle system in VIII is terrible in my opinion. You don't learn spells, you have to spend ages drawing 4-8 casts off of enemies, and you have to dedicate the best spells to boosting your stats, since you junction specific spells to your stats. If you don't choose your best spells for that, you'll be practically useless in battles.

There's also zero incentive to leveling up, which bothers me.

Ah, that's a shame. Usually Ito's battle systems are great. Loved IV's.

For what it's worth, I thought VIII had a pretty fun battle/character development system and that it was a different twist on the genre. I wouldn't want it on every FF, not even close, but I thought it was very interesting and required more strategy, care and attention than your usual "level up and advance in a development grid" system.

Personally, I think you should at least try it. Most people I know enjoyed the game quite a bit. It is my second favorite FF.

Oh, don't worry. I'll play V, VI, VII, VIII and IX at the some point. I'm just waiting for 3D remakes for V and VI. And as for VII, VIII and IX I'm not using Steam or 50Hz crap. Lol.

Didn't you first play FFX in 50Hz? Aside from the slow motion, it was still an awesome game. So will those. :)

I suggest you look past that, you're in for some of the best FF has to offer.

Yeah, but I wouldn't have noticed it back then. Now you've got black bars on the top and bottom and 17% slower after being used to playing PS3 games. Not to mention they charge $14.95 for that each.

FF Crystal Chronicles Ring of Fates (DS)

FFIV (DS)

FF7 Crisis Core (PSP)

FFXIII and FFXIII-2

FF Theatrhythm

FFX/X-2 soon
