I wonder if otaku is a universal term or just one category in a wider spectrum of anime watching classes

its a category. for example. I am otaku. soul is an otaku. amber and alica are sort of otaku ruby is 1/4 otaku

Merc: For me, I think it depends on how you use it in context. I hesitate to call myself an otaku, because of the heavy negative stereotype it holds. I'm by no means an obsessed maniacal fangirl, but I can become quite the purest and an annoying nerd when discussing certain subjects I have a passion for.
