We all know Square Enix puts symbolism in names.

Ex: Zack Fair and Cloud Strife. Fair days are Cloudy, and Cloud has always struggled while Zack tried to be fair to everyone. Zack is short for Zachary which means God has helped. Zack helped Cloud and many other as seen in Crisis Core.

 

I should do a series on names meanings and connections.

 

Okay, I know Latin very well although it is the zombie language, and these are the fun times to use it. I am doing hardcore and loose translation because not only am I translating Latin to English, I have to take into consideration it was translated from Japanese to Latin first.

 

FFXV names that we know so far (from the wiki character list page):

Noctis Lucis Caelum: Sky of light night, Sky's sacred night. lucs can mean sacred or light

 

Ignis Stupeo Scientia: It really doesn't translate smoothly: To be astounded by expertise in fire (In the gameplay he is shown using awesome fire skills)

 

Gladiolus Amicitia: The sword's friendship or the friendship of the sword (He is a sword fighter)

 

Prompto Argentum: quicksilver(He uses guns)

 

Cor Leonis: Heart of the Lion

 

Regis Lucis Caelum: Sky of the Light King (hardcore translation) or King of the sacred sky (loose)

 

Idola Aldercapt: specter? Last name is not latin

 

I love Stella's name because it is interesting.

Stella Nox Fleuret: I have to explain this. Nox and Noctis are the same thing. Nox is the nominative; Noctis is the genetive showing an obvious connection between the two. Flueret is a compound name/verb. I believe it is subjunctive but if you get the meaning it doesn't matter.

Fluere- to cry; ueret- to burn

Her name meaning: When the stars cry, the night burns or The star cries and the night burns or The night cries and burn in the night.

Accordio, the place where the crystals are hidden, means to agree or more specifically "I agree"

Tenebrae, where Stella/Luna/I don't know who she is anymore is from, means darkness

Luna means moon.

The voice actor of Riku, Maomoru Miyano, plays the voice of Ignis. I wondered why he sounded familiar.

On the contrary, I love this sort of thing. I love to collect interesting info like this. Name meanings are my favorite. You should do another post like this, or add to this one.

They might have changed Stella's name to Luna though. It makes even more sense now even though I liked Stella better. Oh well.

I don't know what is going with Stella/Luna. Some say Luna is the black hair in incognito. I think the changed her though. I think She is wearing the same dress as the date they had in a trailer way back.Luna means moon, so change Star to Moon
