I agree with this completely. After Apocalypse and the Wolverine movie in 2017.

They should have rebooted after the first one. 

They did reboot. It was called First Class. Granted, it's a soft reboot but given the general lack of 100% continuity between DoFP and the previous films, it's safe to assume that not everything that happened in the original movies were the way they were originally. The main continuity between the main X-Men films (First Class and DoFP) is solid. I do still believe that making Apocalypse the villain of the third in the 'First Class' trilogy is like making Thanos the villain of the first Avengers, but there's plenty more ways to go with this series. It'd be a shame to wipe the slate clean (twice) after DoFP effectively restarted the universe, anyway.

 

I'm confused as to why erasing what's been done with regards to James McAvoy, Michael Fassbender and Jennifer Lawrence is really the best way to go. They're setting up the 'origin' of the X-Men with these films. Apocalypse is literally going to re-introduce Cyclops, Jean Grey, Storm and other core X-Men so that we can finally have the 'real' X-Men team on the big screen. Hopefully. Like I said, they're shooting their load early by making Apocalypse the end-all villain of this film, but it's not like they have nowhere else to go.

 

I think Fox owns the Skrulls and the Badoon, not to mention the introduction of Cable and the X-Force and all of the other mutant characters who will be getting movies. (Deadpool, Gambit) This franchise, as long as they don't f*ck it, which they might, should be going on for a while.

I always considered First Class to be more of a reboot. Just watched Days of Future Past yesterday and I thought it was really good in continuing on from where First Class left us and made X3 completely irrelevant.

 

I'm excited to see what happens after Apocalypse and personally I don't want a clean slate of new cast members. They've finally gotten the film series back on track imo.

Hugh Jackman's already been talking about stepping down from the role which is fair enough he's been doing it this entire century and he'll be 50 by the time they shoot the next X-Men movie after Apocalypse.

Honestly, I don't think it's likely. Hugh Jackman might stick around for a while, I dunno, but I think Jennifer Lawrence will probably be done by this next movie. I just think that undoing these three films, all of that setup, all of these characters and their interactions with each other, would be a complete waste and unlikely. Maybe Jennifer Lawrence won't come back, but that shouldn't mean that these three films should be wiped from existence. She's one of the main characters in THIS trilogy, but what about the next one? 

 

Point being, there's a lot more to the X-Men beyond Apocalypse. (And on a similar note, Wolverine) I'm still waiting on a proper Dark Phoenix story like Simon Kinberg has been talking about lately.

Oh of course nobody expected him to play a role for as long as he has. Unfortunately actors can't go on forever. I guess for now we have to see what unfolds in both the next Wolverine film and Apocalypse. It'd be a real shame if they undid all their work of what will be 17 years (after Wolverine comes out) and just started again. If a reboot is handled well then I don't mind but I think, regardless of actors, there is a lot more stories they can tell with this current bunch of characters and it'd be a shame to see them go.

Well James McAvoy, Michael Fassbender and Young Beast's actor are the only ones I can see continuing but if they want to go on to the 2,000s again then they wouldn't really be able to continue with those three.

I think its time for Disney to bring the X-Men into the Marvel Cinematic Universe by regaining the movie rights along with Spiderman.
