While coded is definitely the weak link in the story, I've grown to appreciate it. Slyly, Nomura and his writers set up the idea that anything can grow a heart. It embodies a plot twist only directly addressed in 3D. Plus Sora handling pain.

With regards to Nobodies, 100 acre wood, and some other things, the seeds were planted very early on. It fleshed out Blank Points in the end too.

What I'm saying is, by doing all this, Codeds relevance exists through its connections to the other games. Just like how characters in the series exist through their connections in their hearts.

I haven't thought too much about it. Do you agree, or am I still reading into this too much?

That is a BRILLIANT way to look at the "outcast" of the Kingdom Hearts series, and I think you've brought up a relevant point here that I wholeheartedly agree with. Nice going! :)

Oh, and one can NEVER read too much into Kingdom Hearts. It's lore is simply too complex. (Oxymorons FTW xD)

Peace!

Well, not much of a plot twist- anyone who's played KH2 or 358/2 could easily determine that Nobodies can, in fact, have hearts.

I think you're reading a bit too much into it (I defy the idea that Nomura ever does anything "slyly"), but I do agree that Re:Coded plants seeds that DDD grew further- the idea that people can earn Keyblades instead of be given them like BBS claims, and keeping Maleficent and Pete relevant in an ever-increasingly non-Disney centered plot, most notably. And I certainly wouldn't call it the weak link in the story, it's got some of the most solid character writing out of any game in the series, even if the plot is seemingly irrelevant.

Coded's only real purpose (before 2.5) was to explain the what and why of Mickey's letter, while also teasing what is effectively the 'anniversary game' of DDD. In 2.5, Coded has far more importance as they even reference things that are brand-new concepts outside of KHX. It's almost kind of like a reminder of where you were before going forward into new territory. A calm before the storm, almost.

Well, I was just pointing out an observation regarding fan reception of the game/movie.

I wouldn'put it past Nomura to set certain things up in a sly manner. I agree on character writing though.
