==About this Project============
12 years ago, the first Kingdom Hearts came out and started many of us off on a magical adventure - born from the union of Disney and Square Enix. More than a decade later, the same game has evolved into a grande franchise sprouting much frustration, absurd plotlines, incohesiveness and plotholes - ultimately it is still much loved by both veteran fans and new-comers to the series.
To commemorate the release of both "Kingdom Hearts HD 1.5 Remix" and "Kingdom Hearts HD 2.5 Remix" for Playstation 3 internationally, I decided to coordinate a music project. I wanted to do a project with friends, and fellow Kingdom Hearts fans through a choral piece - and so I requested help from anyone that would assist me in my grand musical delusion. The song chosen was the piece named "Dismiss", the final boss battle theme (in Aqua's story) from the original Kingdom Hearts Birth by Sleep (non-final-mix version)
I didn't choose "Dive into the heart - Destati" because that song had been done many times and had received multiple live symphonic performances. Most of which were arranged by other outstanding musicians including Shimomura herself and I really don't think I can even come close to matching or surpassing her level of musical prowess.
Originally, I started this arrangement roughly two years ago as Maestri Della Discordia ver 3.0, but I never came around to finishing that project. In the end I mixed elements from that composition into this arrangement, that is why you'll hear some original parts not present in the original 'Dismiss' by Shimomura.
Before I made the song, I had planned out the sequence and how it would fit into the AMV. In fact the AMV was planned out first because I wanted the music to complement the scenes in the video.
I remember during the arrangement of the song, I had to edit parts out because I wanted to make Dismiss shine more brightly, also because I thought the inclusion of too many character motifs and music themes would make it confusing and difficult for our amazing vocal contributors.
I very much wanted to have a live choir to start with. I was very well aware that my ambitious goal of getting 30 people was a little over the top, But I was very happy with the beautiful results nonetheless considering a fair few of the vocalists pulled out of the project. All the vocalists that I ended up working with were extraordinarily pleasant people, some were little concerned about how they'd sound since we had people from all levels of Musical/vocal ability.
Many late nights were pulled off to rework the track over and over again - I wanted to make sure the voices were in synch and blended harmoniously with the instrumental track, eventually all the hard work paid off.
I recall at one point midway I was very unsatisfied with the heavy percussion I had used previously, and so I decided to record and modify the sound of my own heartbeat to serve as the percussion track (its still is in the song...somewhere). I'm sure those who were involved with this project put their hearts into this to some extent.
==I want to thank============ - Square Enix - The cause of much of our frustration, but also the creator of many amazing games past - Youko Shimomura - thou art a goddess of video game music (I hope I didn't ruin Sensei's original piece) - Each and every one of the aforementioned vocal contributors for responding to the thread I posted on the KH13 forums and my Facebook page, as well as those who accepted my requests. - The thoughts and attempts of those individuals who had originally wanted to participate, but were unable to for various reasons. - Riceballman (My talented younger brother) for his amazing cover art - Bankaiboi for performing and recording some of the violin parts (I hope I didn't butcher your recording) - The Staff Moderators: 'Sora96' and 'AndrewHankinson' from KH13.com for their input and their continued support - Pingutino and KeyToTruth (Truthkey), for assisting with components for the video. - And importantly the listeners who stumbled upon this song...not by chance because there are no coincidences in fate!!
==Closing comments============ Everyone did really well! I don't know if I'll be able to do a collab with this many people again in the future, I just don't have the time (and money lmao) but I'd love to should the opportunity permit. To those I worked with, I want you all to know that though it was brief I've had tremendous pleasure working with each and every one of you.
One of the most pleasing experiences is being able to hear friends and acquaintances singing the same tune alike, I really felt that being able to work together was a miracle and a privilege. You've all become 'chains in my memories' and will always be 'precious stars in my sky' (
)
Whatever you all do in the future, I wish you all swift success and the best of luck with your life aspirations. ...Now go out there and play some Kingdom Hearts!!...and time for me to catch up on two-weeks worth of sleep lmao
==Trivial information============ 1) Coincidentially We have 13 singers...(We are Organisation XIII)...in total we have input from 19 people (we're off by 1 person if we wanted to make this 13D VS 7L) 2) The computer crashed (My very first time crashing from making music) when I tried to preview the instrumental, I had to preview the song in segments and then render them separately. 3) The computer crashed 3 times later yet again and blew the electrical fuse during the time I tried mixing down everyone's voices in. Currently I can neither refute or verify the urban myth about 'Destati' bearing cursed lyrics....but I'll say it gave me many headaches
==The Competition============
Everyone who contributed to the music project from Kh13.com will be recieving a Keyblade Keychain as promised I can't choose which contributors should get the prize because I am unbelieveably happy with everyone's Contribution you're all winners!!! Please expect an email from me soonish.
