Sorual 607 Posted December 7, 2014 ever scince nintendo stopped making the marth, villager, and wii fit trainer amiibo, their prices have gone up signifigantly. marth is now around the price of a new console release, villager in now around the price of a new handheld release, and wii fit trainer is around 10 bucks lower than villager but still well over her original $12.99. i predicted this would happen (as did many others) but sadly i didnt get any of these 3. but i pre ordered the one i think is eventually going to be most rare. (shulk because he is from a very popular JRPG (like FE) and he is limited to gamestop) i dislike this prine inflation a lot because the kind of person i am i guess can be desribed as a sorta collector's syndrome guy. i really like to collect all of this kind of thing but only do it when its within the budget which marth, villager, and wii fit trainer are now not. but i guess i have nobody to blame but myself for wanting them all. what are your thoughts on the amiibo price inflation/scalping? OmegaForte 1,674 Posted December 7, 2014 (edited) It's a rumor, nothing has been confirmed yet. I find it too soon Nintendo/[insert manufacture name] to end making them. I know Nintendo said they'd end making amiibos throughout time, but this early is just a stupid move. They are making very good profits out of these to end some of them so soon. (It hasn't even been a month, wtf?) Same goes to the GCA+GCC. Edited December 7, 2014 by OmegaForte 1 Jilly Shears reacted to this

Shulk 8,623 Posted December 7, 2014 I don't think Xenoblade can really be classified as a popular JRPG. Not many people have played it. Also, this is disappointing. I hope that other amiibo won't be affected by this in the future.

I hope that other amiibo won't be affected by this in the future. are you sure? the reason it was so pricey was because everyone wanted to play it and there worent that many of them out there. xenoblade chronicles seems to be very popular or at least have a moderate fanbase that is very dedicated. that dedicated fanbase probably wants the amiibo and will buy it. on top of that its gamestop exclusive just like the game was so there arent as many out there. i think its actually the same with fire emblem. JRPG that seems to have a larger fanbase them xenoblade chronicles, but still moderate and dedicated. im sure its more popular than xenoblade (it is first party nintendo) but it doesent seems to be as popular as many other nintendo games. not only that, but most fire emblem games also have limited print in the U.S. like xenoblade chronicles did. (except awakening) the xenoblade and FE stories seem pretty similar to me. and shulk is store exclusive only adding to it's probable rarity. and look up marth on amazon. despite them and xenoblade having slightly similar stories, he is still the most expensive amiibo. i could be wrong tho. for all i know the shulk amiibo could be like mario and stay $12.99. i hope thats the case to an extent. It's pricey because it was an incredibly limited release. Until Smash was released, it was a really overlooked game, and it's still pretty overlooked now. I rarely see people mention it outside of "LOL AM RLY FEELIN IT AM I A XENOBLADE FAN NOW?". Also, Xenoblade is actually a first-party game, too. Nintendo bought Monolith Soft has a first party developer. Basically, Gamestop drove the Xenoblade prices through the roof because of the limited release, and everyone else followed suit. I think it's the price and accessibility that made Awakening much more popular outside Japan. 1 Sorual reacted to this
Hero of Winds 2,576 Posted December 7, 2014 I guess I know what I'll be doing then! Buying some amiibo and selling them once they go out of stock and are discontinued. I'm also hunting down defective models and selling those too. There's a profit to be had and I'm gonna make it happen!

I think it's the price and accessibility that made Awakening much more popular outside Japan. actually, i think mololithsoft is something called a second party in this case. (by defenition at least) but thats off topic. your definetly right about fire emblem awakening. it was deffinetly successful outside japan for the reasons you listed. and to a degree i agree with you on the xenoblade thing. but i dont think the game was pricey just because it had a limited release. it also got outstanding reviews and is one of the most critically aclaimed games on the wii and i think that was also a factor as to how much it costed. the rarity was DEFINETLY party of it, but i also think its because it was such a good game that people really wanted it. im not saying EVERYONE wanted it. like you said, it still is a pretty overlooked game, but i dont think that the amount of people who did want it is as miniscule as your making it out to be. but you are right about everything else. it still is a very overlooked game. i still think shulks amiibo is gonna be the rarest tho. but along the lines of xenoblade chronicles, do you think xenoblade chronicles X is gonna have a better time comming out outside japan? or do you think its also going to go out of print soon after its released like xenoblade chronicles was? same question for the 3ds port of xenoblade chronicles.
