KH3D: what surprised you the most?

Posted

When KH3D came out, it changed the story of KH forever. Nothing was ever the same. I want to know from all of you, what about it surprised you? For me, learning how everything from BbS to Re:Coded was part of a huge plan to create the thirteen darknesses. What about you? Discuss below.

Learning Xion, Namine, and Roxas were still "alive" in Sora's heart

Did you never see the ending to KH2. Or play Re:Coded

Or even Days

I was surprised at how unsurprised I was. Time travel featured a novel take (even if it is more confusing than necessary), but everything else was patently obvious if you've been paying attention to the series.

I'd say a lot more stuff came out of nowhere, but only because there was no precedent. Sora falling to darkness was kinda obvious, but the way he does: by successfully defeating Xemnas, doesn't make a whole lot of sense. There's really no reason to expect Lea would get a keyblade, either, and definitely no particular reason you'd expect that Xehanort was planning on using time travel to build a new Organization XIII full of time travelling Xehanorts

For the Sora/darkness thing, that seemed more or less a disconnect between the showing and the telling; the script calls for one thing, while the final visual doesn't make it clear. BBS suffered from that a few times as well. And time travel ALWAYS comes out of nowhere, but at least they featured a new and somewhat interesting take on it, that incorporated heretofore unexplained elements. And since we've had assorted time travel gimmicks before, it doesn't surprise me that they'd introduce them again. As for Lea, that's just moving the pieces around, which is primarily what DDD was for; to make sure all of the elements are in place for the final game. Given Axel's actions in KHII, Lea's involvement was likely at some point.

When Sora fell into the darkness at the end of his story. I was suprised that it happened to him.

I've never finished KH 2, so no.

And and DAYS does not say Roxas is still alive, nor does RE:coded directly. Xion isn't mentioned in coded at all, and Roxas is only a data battle.

Days isn't about Roxas, it's about Xion. It mentions how Xion will lie on through Sora, like his memories from Chain of Memories did

Re:Coded literally says Sora has to save Terra Aqua Ventus Roxas Xion and Lea from their hurt

the ending of KH2 has Namine adn Roxas temporarily resurface from Sora and Kiair to smile at each other, and before the final boss Roxas and Namine project themselves out of Sora and Kairi's bodies

As some others have said, crappy usage of time travel and all of the retcons were the biggest surprises. At least the gameplay was a lot of fun, which is what matters most to me.
