Koyomi and Haru eagerly awaited the beginning of the Innitial Hunter Examination, but found themselves waiting for several minutes due to the head instructor of the Hunter's being missing. "This guy is really taking his time..." "Tell me about it." A sudden spot light was now directed to the center of the arena where a man with white hair appeared. "Welcome fellow students to the Initial Hunter Examination. As many of you may already be aware, I am the Hunter Ryu Akuma. Today, I will be monitoring our new Hunters as they are welcomed into the academy. Judging by how well these students react under unique circumstances, they will be placed in one of five tiers with the first tier students being the best among those who are attending the Academy." With a general sense of unease drifting over the new students, Koyomi and Haru were only getting more competitive. "This'll be a synch." "It won't even be that." "I will now draw two names from a hat, and the pairs that are called out will step forward and innitiate in battle. There are no rules, all weapons are prohibited. The winner is determined by either knock out or submission. If a winner is not met within ten minutes, then fight is considered a draw. Now then, the first stage of the Hunter Exam will now begin!"

Over the course of the next half an hour, many students were called out into the arena. Some students displayed immense skill, while others displayed a complete lack of it. However, almost all of the fight seemed to follow a specific trend, and that was the fact that every match had been heavily one sided battles. But, this all changed when both Koyomi's and Haru's names were called up together. "Well, looks like it's destiny for us to do this." "I wouldn't have it any other way." Koyomi and Haru took up positions facing each other in the center of the arena. Stacks of weapons were held up on the walls, giving both combatants equal chance to gain a weapon during the fight. "And begin!" Immediately, both students turned and ran in the opposite direction, reaching for a weapon as if it were instinct to them. Koyomi managed to acquire a blunt katana while Haru was now holding a broad sword. The two then began running back towards each other, raising their blades in unison. Even though he had no training, Koyomi was capable of determining in which direction Haru was going to swing his sword. There was however a problem that Koyomi had encountered and that was even though he knew Haru would attack, didn't mean that his body was fast enough to keep up with him. Haru sliced through the air with enough pressure to knock Koyomi backwards. Koyomi recovered from the attack and thanked his own luck that he had come out unscathed. "(I need to come up with something quickly or I'm going to be toast.)" Koyomi smirked after a brief few seconds, raising his katana again while taking a kendo stance. "I may not have any training, but I have everything I need up here!" Koyomi said pointing to his brain. "(After all, "K" never loses!)" Haru smirked and began his assault on Koyomi once again, but was now having a much harder time trying to land a hit. "(What the hell?! It's like his skill set completely changed in the blink of an eye! I guess this is why I shouldn't underestimate him!)" It was within that moment that Koyomi's stance changed again and he was now only holding the blade with a single hand. Koyomi quickly moved around Haru's larger blade, using his own to keep it locked in place while using his spare hand to punch Haru straight in the face. Haru staggered back before realising that Koyomi was coming at him again with a kick, knocking him down onto the ground. "(His attacks are fast, but they're weak enough for me to handle.)" Haru then noticed that Koyomi was already starting to look tired. With a smirk, Haru stood back up and waved the broad sword with little effort. "All out of gas already?" Koyomi's gaze narrowe, finding that Haru's words were annoyingly true. "(It's been about two minutes since the fight began. I need to defeat him or at least last until the timer runs out.)" Koyomi began running in a circle around Haru, his physical limit already approaching. "Stall tactics won't work on me 'K'!" Koyomi smiled to himself as he then ran at Haru, clashing blades. "I always knew it was you Luna." "That's a tough act you're trying to play, you think you can do it?" "Watch me!" The two forced each other away and one of the most intense matches ever seen at the Academy truly began.

The Arena was filled with both Witches and Hunters, watching as the matches went on and Hunters both won and failed. Some with mild injuries, some with heavy injuries. As it went on Rose and Kori sat by watching and clapping. Arsinoe watched unimpressed. Yawning from time to time. None of these fights were getting to her. She was patiently waiting for Koyomi, only to laugh as she watched him get his ass kicked. But that fight wasn’t around just yet. A familiar face grabbed her attention, as Anubis sat down about a few rows in front of her to watch the matches. Arsinoe groaned to herself, wishing to ignore such. Soon enough the fight between Koyomi and Haru began. “Hey, it’s that Haru kid!” “And the Valentine boy as well.” This caught Arsinoe’s attention. “Finally.” Arsinoe muttered to herself. She expected a quick match. To her surprise, this match was much more intense than what she had expected. Truly the first match out of the test that got every spectator on edge. “(He’s…truly powerful.)” Arsinoe thought. Even if it wasn’t just the motion of power. More of the quick wittedness and how he was handling the situation so well. It didn’t seem like his first fight. From a few chairs down you could hear the excited squeals from Anubis, who shook the nearest spectator besides her while saying, “That’s my friend out there!” before yelling out for Koyomi and cheering him on. Arsinoe’s gaze returned to the fight, following Koyomi’s movements while mesmerized.

“There’s the Valentine kid.” Stratos watched the fight intently. “For his first fight, he’s doing great.” Hanna said. “Yes, his sister did mentioned that he could have potential. He’s much more intelligent than he seems.” “He’ll make a great Hunter then. We need more smart hunters, and less show off hunters like a few kids I know.” Stratos’ eyes narrowed. “(I don’t think Hunter would be the right term for this kid.)”

After narrowly avoiding Haru’s attacks and breathing heavily, obviously running out of energy, Koyomi’s expression was filled with worry. “You’re finished Koyomi!” Haru rushed at the white haired genius with his broadsword, forcing Koyomi backwards towards the wall. Koyomi held his blade up above him while Haru slammed his heavy blade down on top of him, pushing him onto one knee. “Looks like this is finally the day that ‘K’ loses.” Koyomi’s eyes were hidden behind his hair, a dark smirk creeping across his face as a low toned laugh began to resonate through the atmosphere. Looking up at Haru with a mischievous smile and a dark expression, it became obvious to most that Koyomi had something hidden up his sleeve. “You? … Defeat me? I’ll agree, you’ve come closer than any other so far, but don’t get ahead of yourself. Just look.” Koyomi nodded his head over to the timer, Haru noticing that there was only thirty seconds left on the timer. “Damn it!” However, as Haru turned back, he had noticed that Koyomi had simply vanished from view. In reality, Koyomi had used the timer as a distraction in order to escape Haru’s grasp. Swinging his blade at Haru, Koyomi smiled like a mad man with eyes that burned with excitement. Haru managed to very quickly avoid Koyomi’s attack, swinging his blade and knocking the Katana out of Koyomi’s hand. But Koyomi did not stop smirking as he seemingly let go of the Katana without resistance. During that same moment, Koyomi dashed forward, a knife sliding out of his sleeve and into his left hand. Haru’s eyes widened as he was now pinned to the wall, a knife through the sleeve of his coat and his own blade held up to his neck. “Checkmate.” The crowd roared as the long battle finally came to an unexpected end. Haru stared at Koyomi, remembering the way he was smiling during the fight. “(This guy…)” Haru sighed, hanging his head in shame. “I lose… Tell me Koyomi, when did you grab that knife?” Koyomi laughed and freed Haru from the wall, walking away with a snicker. “The same time I picked up the katana.” Haru stared at Koyomi before laughing and following after him. “(So, I lost since the very beginning eh? Sneaky devil…)” The two were approached by Mr. Akuma who was clapping his hands with praise. “Well done. Both of you fought very well, especially you Koyomi. Your lack of training was barely noticeable to the general populace and your quick thinking allowed you to completely out-manoeuvre an opponent as strong as Haru. Haru, your skills with a blade were extremely strong and precise, however, you must learn to keep calm under any circumstances. If you had stayed calm, then you most likely would have won.” Haru laughed a little. “I doubt it… Hey Koyomi, even I have to admit that I didn’t see that last attack coming.” “Yeah… That’s what I was… planning…” Koyomi’s eyes then rolled back and he suddenly fell forward. Haru managed to catch Koyomi in time, but found that his new rival was now unconscious. “He really did give it his all by the looks of it.” Mr. Akuma frowned, holding a hand up to his chin. “That stamina level is a problem, but I have a feeling that we’ll be able to do something about that. Haru, take Koyomi to the waiting area for the next exam.” “Yes Sir.” “Haru Nisshoku.” Haru turned back to the elder Hunter who gave a smile. “Good job out there. I hope to see much more of the both of you during this next year.” Haru smiled, giving Mr. Akuma a salute. “Yes Sir!” Haru then hurried out of the arena with the unconscious Koyomi, allowing the next fight to go underway.

The crowd cheered at the end of the duel. Even Arsinoe found herself clapping slightly, her gaze in awe as the match went beyond of what she had predicted. Kori and Rose, who were eating popcorn from their seats, ended up standing up to clap and cheer, throwing their bags of popcorn into the air, popcorn flying everywhere as Kori rubbed her hands together. “Oh ho ho! I want to fight that Koyomi kid now!” Rose turned to Kori, worried. “What?! Please don’t start picking up other fights?!” Rose asked. Kori smirked at Rose. “I’m not going to leave this school without fighting every powerful Hunter and Witch.” Kori hissed, Rose sighing as she knew that there was no stopping Kori. Anubis cheered and clapped along with the crowd. “Yay Koyomi!!!...AH KOYOMI!” As quickly as he won however, Koyomi fell unconscious. Rose rubbed her head. “Well, guess he has more to learn I think?” “Doesn’t exclude him from my list.” Arsinoe paused herself, ignoring everything around her. “(He’s stronger than I expected…much stronger.)” Arsinoe thought, feeling potential. The aura from within him on the field was unique, different from any other hunter or witch that she had seen before. It drew her in. Taking a glance at Anubis, and then at Kori and Rose, and then at the rest of the arena spectators, witches and hunters. She waved her fan gently over her face. The rest of the exam was yet to finish. “(Maybe I should start looking more into this Valentine. Not like a male would have the ability to continue the witch bloodline anyways. Just maybe…)” Arsinoe thought, her gaze fixated to the arena, but her mind going in circles over thoughts. “I’ll have to contact mom after this.”

Hanna clapped. “I’m impressed. Though if he doesn’t resolve his stamina problem he won’t last a day out in the Hunt.” Hanna said, Stratos giving a small nod. “He’ll develop it through his time taking classes here. Hunters aren’t born with the abilities as we are, and he lacks the training, a training he will surely gain in his time with us…I’ll make sure to have the professors keep an eye on him.” Stratos assured. “Right. I’ll take note on that. If he ends up in my Weaponry Specialization class, I’ll make sure he doesn’t lose a limb or two.” Hanna said as she turned and walked away. “I’m going to bother Ryu.” With that, Hanna walked out of the area.

Slowly but surely, the physical part of the Hunter exam came to a close, ending with many students displaying their talents. Mr. Akuma entered the centre of the arena as all of the Hunters finished their matches in order to address the audience and the Hunters of the next stage of the exam. "Hunters and Witches, the second phase of the Hunter Examination will be a written test in which all must complete to the best of their ability in the 50 minute time limit that is available to them. Hunters, this also no ordinary written test. For every correct answer you get, you will gain a set number of points depending on the question. You will also receive extra points depending on the amount of time remaining on the clock when you finish the test. The student with the most points will receive a bonus prize. The questions will be of hypothetical situations that a Hunter will face out in the field. You have five minutes to prepare. Good luck." Mr. Akuma then vanished from sight, a slight gust of wind blowing through the arena as this happened. While this took place, Koyomi slowly regained his consciousness, Haru welcoming him back with a smile. "Yo. Sleepy head, welcome back." "A written test where the person with the highest score gets a prize..." "So you heard all of that? That saves me some trouble at least." Haru chuckled a little as Koyomi sat up straight. "So... You're K. I knew you told me you were physically weak, but I didn't think it was that bad." "Shut up... I still won, that's all that matters. Anyway, if this is a simple test, then there's no way I can lose." "Don't get too cocky. These guys are going to throw a bunch of trick questions at us, I'm sure of it." Koyomi smirked as he slowly rose to his feet. "The day I get fooled by a simple written test is the day I'll admit that this world has beaten me and trust me, that day is not today." Every hunter student looked up as they heard a loud announcement. "Will all of the students taking the written test please step back into the arena and find the seat with their name on it." Haru began walking with Koyomi to their seats. "Well, I'm pretty sure you'll win this, so I'll make sure to come in second. See ya later K." "Heh, good luck Luna." Both Haru and Koyomi took their seats, just as all of the other students had. On the desks before them, each student was provided with a pen, a pencil, an eraser, a notepad and of course, their actual test sheet. The test sheet was face down, therefore not giving any student extra time to think about the first few questions. "You may turn over your papers when I say "go". You all have 50 minutes to complete this test." Koyomi's eyes were closed, his breathing becoming extremely calm as his mind found a spiritual neutral zone where he was capable of blocking out any thoughts that did not pertain to the test in front of him. "3... 2... 1..." Koyomi opened up his eyes and placed a hand on his paper. "(I will not be beaten... By a simple test!)" "Go!"

Kori yawned. "This is the boring part of the test." Kori groaned. "But it is also the most nerve wrecking. They have hundreds of eyes on them, watching their every move." Rose said. "Now I feel kind of lucky, just being a witch means you get accepted regardless. No need for this testing bullsh*t." Kori said, a smile on her face. "Yeah, I remember I was so surprised I didn't had to take a special test or anything!" "Oh yeah, I remember when you first came in. We were all in awe that you're the first witch of your family to be developed. You were a nervous wreck." The two carried on their chatter. Witches and Hunters moved around the arena, some heading to the dorms, some heading to the bathrooms, around the academy, others staying to watch, and many other activities. Arsinoe watched intently, looking around as the students took the exams. "(If he passes this...)" Arsinoe thought. It was proven that Koyomi is rather...unique, even notable in the fight. He had caught her eye, now it was only a matter of trial and error before any decisions were made. Anubis waved her feet as she watched the Hunters take the test. Some seemed to keep their cool, others looked as if they were at the verge of a panic attack. "I wonder." Anubis muttered. She concentrated and opened the palms of her hands, darkness forming as it slowly took shape into two ravens, each on each hand, black as obsidian and four eyes that gleamed red. "Sunlight~" "Sunlight~" The ravens chirped, their voices sounding such as if they were whispering children. "Huginn,Muninn, go fly around and tell me what you see." Anubis suggested, smiling. The two ravens chirped in delight, flying off from Anubis' hands and starting to fly around the arena to look at what the Hunters were writing. Professor Hanna walked around back and forth across the arena, her hands behind her back as she made sure that there was no cheating. Not that anyone is dumb enough to try. But there was always one or two and she had to make sure that this wasn't the case this year. On her shoulder a being summoned by Principal Stratos, a chameleon that moved each eye independently, looking at the Hunters and tests, giving Stratos a closer view from where she sat. Soon enough Huginn sat on Haru's shoulder, looking down at his test while tilting its head. Munnin found a spot right on Koyomi's head.

The second phase proceeded with the sounds of pens against paper resounding throughout the arena. Everyone was putting their minds to the test in order to complete the test as fast as possible. However, there were still a small number of candidates who seemed to be much calmer than the others, excelling in the test faster than the others. Most of the teachers could notice that there were ten or so students that had pulled ahead of everyone else, and in front of them all was Koyomi. Despite not even knowing the terminology for most entry level hunters, Koyomi was able to carefully deduce the correct outcomes for the hypothetical situations that were presented to him. However, the ten students, as well as every other, were frozen in place as they all read the final question. The question was: "How many Hunters are currently taking this exam?" Haru who was among the top ten, began working out the answer from his position at the back of the arena. With a clear view of everyone, finding out the number of people who took the test was a simple task. This was a slightly harder task for Koyomi who had been placed at the front of the class, but for someone with a photographic memory, it had only took a few seconds to work out the answer. "(I glanced over the seats upon entering the arena. There are 20 rows and within each row is roughly 30 seats. So in that case, the answer to the question is 600 stu-...)" Koyomi froze in place, his eyes darted over the wording of the question, a grin sneaking up across his face. "(Sneaky... Very sneaky. The true answer to this question... is zero!)" As soon as he put down his answer, raising his paper after only twenty minutes of the exam beginning. A few minutes later two others raised their papers into the air. One of them being Haru and the other being a young man, roughly the same age as the two, with bright golden hair. The test continued until the timer ran out, concluding the intellectual examination. After a few minutes of rapid test scoring, Mr. Akuma made his back out in front of the audience to announce the test scores. "Okay, ladies, this is the part I'm sure you've all been looking forward to. For completing the test within only twenty minutes and with a score of 100%, our winner is Koyomi of the Valentine family." The crowd cheered as Koyomi walked up on stage to claim his prize. "And as promised, we award you with the mighty blade, Masamune." Mr. Akuma was handed a long blade, held within a beautiful blue sheath, which was then delicately handed over to Koyomi. "Next we have our close runners up. Even though he finished his test third, this particular student also earned a 100% rating and gained second place." Koyomi glanced down the stairs, a hint of curiosity circling within his mind. "Our runner up, Alexander of the Cross family." The golden haired boy from before walked up on stage and stood next to Koyomi, waving his hand. Look out at the girls within the crowd, the blonde haired model winked with a smile of pure delight, allowing a majority of the girls watching to begin gushing over his perfect good looks. The man known as Alexander then whispered to Koyomi with a smirk as he managed to keep all the ladies interested. "Having fun yet... Hunter?" Koyomi snickered at the taunting remark that only the two who managed to answer the final question correctly would understand. "Maybe I am. Pleased to meet you Alex. I hope we can be friends?" Koyomi and Alex shook hands in front of everyone, but only Mr. Akuma, who was stood right next to the two, could see how tense the atmosphere around them was. "I hope so too, Valentine." Clearing his throat, Mr. Akuma moved on to the last student to bring up on stage. "And in third place, with a score rating of 99%, we have Haru of the Nisshoku family." Haru walked out on stage and stood on the other side of Koyomi, getting an overall bad feeling about Alex. "(Something about that guy feels... Off. I'm sure Koyomi is feeling the same way. Then again, he's a weird one too, so there's the possible chance that he's going start thinking of this as another game.)" Haru sighed as he then bowed his head with his fellow students. "For the final phase of the exam, each student will be forced to take a one on one psycho-analysis test. There is no way to fail this test, but this test will remain to be one of the majoring factors that decide which tier each student will be placed in. This test will be unavailable for others to watch and therefore, all of the Witches in the audience will now be dismissed. We hope you hope you have all enjoyed the result of this year's Hunter Examination. Now, as for you, young Hunters, we will be testing you all in the order of which you scored in the test. When your name is called, please enter the first room that leads out of the arena. Koyomi Valentine, you will be the first." Koyomi nodded, slowly heading off with the Masamune now in hand. "K! What was the answer to the last question?" Koyomi looked back at Haru, a smirk across his face. "You put 600, didn't you? We're not Hunters yet... Not one of us." Koyomi then walked away, leaving Haru to sigh. "The answer was zero huh? How devious..."

Rose blushed brightly at Alexander's wave. Rose quickly waved back, allowing Kori to roll her eyes. "You do know he can't notice you, right? Out of everyone in this damn arena." Kori hissed. She wasn't one to easily fall for boys. "I know, he's just...gaw!~" Rose giggled. "Alright~ Alright~ Come on, we might as well reach back to our dorms. They would've already sent over the bags." Kori said as she stood up, having to pull Rose as she kept waving at Alexander, despite the fact that it was impossible for him to notice her from that far most likely. Arsinoe stopped straight up from her seat, almost looking upset as she stomped out of the arena, pushing people out of her way with wind magic. Kori hissed. "GEEZ what's wrong with the princess? Did she broke a nail?" Kori asked, glaring as Arsinoe walked away. Rose was still looking at the arena, much to Kori's dismay. Anubis caught Huginn and Muninn, the two ravens resting on her hands. "I'm kind of glad I don't have to deal with those kinds of questions huh?" Anubis asked the two as she miled, petting their heads slightly before they disappeared in a flutter of smoke. Just as suddenly Kori got a hand on her shoulder. Anubis looked up to see the devious smile on Kori's face. "I want to see that part of the exam." Kori whispered. Anubis gulped. A few minutes later the three witches were up to trying to get a look at the final hunter's exam, the psycho-analysis test. It didn't had the greatest amount of windows, just one which was a few feet in height on the wall. "I don't know any magic to fly up there." Rose muttered. "I think my summons are too big to just sit still by a window too." Anubis added. Kori clapped her hands. "Then there's no problem! We'll just have to form a human tower! Rose, you're the lightest one, so you'll be on top to tell us what happens!" Kori suggested, and Anubis agreed, much to Rose's dismissal. Awkwardly and carefully they formed their tower. Rose climbed onto Anubis' shoulders, and Kori picked up Anubis to rest her on her shoulders. Rose quickly found stability with the wall and looked through the window. "I can see it." Rose muttered. "Sweet~"

"It appears that the exams went great! Not a single bad thing happened this year, for once." Stratos said happily as she walked back, holding her staff as she made her way out of the building. Just as quickly Hanna walked up next to her. "Stratos." Hanna said, holding some papers on a clipboard. "It's a 100%. A legitimate 100%. I haven't seen that happen since you and I were students here, and that's a long time ago." "Ah yes, there's only been a handful of 100%s for that test right? Remember to add it to the records. His sister did warn us he was unique, and very smart. Even I noticed it, despite his cocky attitude. Hopefully that will fade away as he realizes that his new dances between life and death." "Right. I came in with some reports as well. There has been more Angelic activity across the globe recently. The main cities are Moscow, Tokyo, Rio De Janeiro, and this city." "Is it surpassing the demonic activity?" "It's been the same level." "How troublesome." A pause. "I think we should try to interrogate the demon you encountered last week by the Orphanage. Would you be so kind to get me its blood vial from the arsenal? I'll go find our host." "Yes mam. I'll also prepare the room. I will inform Mr.Akuma about it in case there are any darling hunters what wish to know the horrors of possession."

Entering a solitary room, Koyomi placed his newly acquired weapon down on the table in the center of the room and sat down on one of the chairs. Entering behind Koyomi, Mr. Akuma sat opposite him while holding some papers. "That was quite the show you managed to put on. I'm sure everyone will remember you now for your incredible strategic and intellectual skills." Koyomi yawned with a bored expression, his true nature returning to the surface. "It took a little more effort than what I was expecting, I'll commend you for challenging me." "Cocky... Anyway, the final test is a psycho-analysis test, as I have already explained. I will ask you a set number of questions and you will answer them based on your own personal opinion. I will be able to tell when you are lying as well, so please try to keep yourself awake long enough to finis this test." Koyomi shut one eye with a coy smile, pretending as if he were half asleep already. For a split second, Koyomi's eyes darted up to the window in which Rose was looking through before he turned his attention back to his "counselor". "I'll do my best." "Very well, we will begin with a simple word game. I say a word and you utter the first word that comes to mind, ready?" "Mmmmm... It's a little boring, but I guess I don't have much of a choice..." Koyomi sat back in his chair, putting his feet up on the table while closing his eyes at the same time. "Alright, we'll begin now. Angel." "White." "Demon." "Black." "War." "Chess." "Power." "Winner." "Relationship." "Emotion." "... Emotion." "Weakness." "Morales." "Pointless." "King." Koyomi paused, his eyes opening slowly as he gave a dark smirk. "Loser." Mr. Akuma watched Koyomi's reaction and could tell that all of the answers he gave were in fact the truth, but he found it so hard to believe that someone so skilled would have such a corrupted mind. "Curse." "Challenge." "Evil." "Nothing." "Death." "Loss." "Failure." "Impossible." "God." Once again Koyomi had paused, but this time it was all because he began laughing to the point that he could not contain himself. "Opponent." Mr. Akuma sighed, finally seeing Koyomi's true self. "That will be all. We have a few more questions and then I can send you on your way." "Of course~!" Koyomi's expression returned to his friendly smiling face, almost as if his evil grin was nothing more than a phase. One that he was undoubtedly sure that Rose would be too afraid to even mention, all as a part of his plan.

"Alright then. Question one, you are out in the field with two Witches and encounter an extraordinarily powerful Demon. Both Witches are injured and are in need of medical attention. What do you do? Do you: A) Leave one of the Witches behind in order to save the other. B) Stay behind to fight the Demon while both Witches help each other escape. Or C) Leave both Witches to die and escape alone." Koyomi sighed in boredom, twirling his hair around his finger to purposefully emphasize how unimpressed he was with the question. "That's gotta be an elementary question, right? You can't ask me anything harder?" "Look, if you answer this question you can just leave. Then I can go through the other several hundred students who sat the exam." "Fine~... The answer is B. See ya." Koyomi stood up and was about to leave when Mr. Akuma stood up as well. "You'll need to be a bit more thorough on why you made that choice." "Are you serious? I want to go to my room and get some rest, but now you're asking me to waste my precious time... Fine. You choose B because it ends with everybody getting out alive." Mr. Akuma blinked, re-reading the piece of paper to make sure he'd asked the correct question. "Look. By choosing B, you stay behind and fight the powerful demon, allowing the other two Witches to escape. But! The question does not state that the demon is undefeatable and therefore, I can win the battle against it. By winning, the wounded Witches can escape, I will have triumphed over a demon and that also means one less enemy to deal with for a while. It's a triple win situation instead of the other two lose-lose situations. Jeez, and you're a teacher at this academy... It might be even more boring than I thought." Koyomi took his sword and left the room, leaving Mr. Akuma to smirk. "I knew that he of all people would see the loop hole in that question... This should be an interesting year." Mr. Akuma then sat back down and awaited the next student to enter the room. After leaving the building, Koyomi found himself in the main courtyard. Taking out a pair of sunglasses to guard his light sensitive eyes against the sun's rays, he decided to take a stroll to check out all of the other places left on campus that he had not already visited while he was in the company of Anubis. "(Let's just hope I don't get stuck with... What was her name again? The one with the fans? Oh, I forgot... Been a while since I cared that little for someone that even forgot their name... Never mind, I'm sure she'll begin annoying me again sometime soon.)"

Hanna walked right past Koyomi, knocking on the door and opening it, looking over at Mr.Akuma. "There will be a demonic interrogation a few doors down, so don't go crazy running in unless we need your assistance." Hanna said as she crossed her arms. "You." Right behind Koyomi, stood Arsinoe. She stood as graceful as always, glaring behind her fan. She cleared her throat. "You've impressed me, Valentine. To get 100% on the Hunter's test is no easy feat, neither is defeating an opponent, though I don't think fainting afterwards counts." Arsinoe said with a small cough, looking away for a bit before staring back at Koyomi. "Even so, you've proven yourself for a first day. I've even told my mother about your performance." Arsinoe said, walking around him slightly. "But this is just the first day, you still have classes, and hunting appointments, as well as demons to kill. God forbids you encounter an angel! You wouldn't last a minute!" She paused. "But that's enough of that. I'm not here to tease you, I'm here to offer an alliance. You're strong, I'm strong. You'll need to get around the ropes of hunting demons...partner with me for the hunts from time to time, would you?" Arsinoe asked, looking over at the clock tower for a second, taking note of the time. She then walked closer to Koyomi. "By this point you might not even trust me. Therefor, allow me to gain your trust." She smiled. "How would you like to see a demon being interrogated?"

"(Literally, speak of the devil...)" Koyomi and groaned as he attempted to ignore the majority of Arsinoe's self boasting and decided to look away. It was only when she had suggested that they were both strong did he begin laughing. "You? ... Strong? Now that is funny. Look, whatever your name is, take a hime to the top of a tall building and contemplate everything you're currently doing before pushing yourself off to your imminent demise. I'll hopefully not see you around. Bye." Koyomi then began walking away until the point Arsinoe mentioned the Demon interrogation. Only showing her his back, Koyomi asked with a very dark aura to his voice, sending a chill through Arsinoe as he asked his question. "A Demon? Where is this interrogation?" Looking over his shoulder, the snow haired boy's face appeared as cold as ice itself. Despite having his eyes hidden behind sunglasses, his expression could clearly been as someone who should not be denied what they want. "Take me there. Now."

Mr. Akuma nodded to Hanna's proposal, making sure to bring in the next student to take the test. After a moments pause, the door opened to unveil Alex's entrance. "Alexander Cross. Take a seat." "Why thank you." Alex took his seat opposite Mr. Akuma. "Right then, I would first like to run a basic routine check on you. Only answer yes or no to the following questions. Is that clear?" Alex smirked, automatically realising that was indeed the first question. "Yes." "Well then. Is your full name Alexander Riley Cross?" "Yes." "Are you of the age of 18?" "Yes." "Do you currently have any family attending this Academy?" "No." "Is the Cross family regarded as one of the most elite Hunter and Witch families of all time for their skills in using time magic?" "Yes." "Does your family like to keep this specific information away from the general populace of the Witch world?" "Yes." The further this "probing" section continued, the darker the atmosphere circling Alex seemed to become. Realising this, Mr. Akuma began to change the pace of the questions. "Are you currently in a relationship?" Alex seemed to calm down, not knowing where the question had come from. "No." "How unfortunate..." "If that is not a question, then I will assume that I am free to speak. From now on, please do not gloat about myself being currently single as I am sure that my fanbase outweighs yours." "... Let's just get back to the questions." Mr. Akuma then became serious, staring deeply into Alex's emerald eyes. "Will you attempt to defeat Koyomi Valentine?" At the moment that Koyomi's name was mentioned, all who were watching him felt like they were being crushed under the pressure of his piercing gaze alone. It was clear that Alex had developed a special kind of hatred for Koyomi within the short time they had met. However, this deeply more shocking by Alex's response and expression. With wide eyes and a grin as wide as the Cheshire Cat, Alex answered his teachers question. "Yes." Mr. Akuma had realised that he had made a mistake in bringing up Koyomi's name and came to a very tough decision. "(These two... They could destroy this entire campus if they battled for first place. The safest thing to do would be to put them in two separate class rooms. But then that will end with one of them ending up in a tier they are clearly too capable for. I'm going to have to gamble with having those two in the same class... It's not going to end well, but it'll make them both stronger.)" Mr. Akuma sighed and pointed with his thumb to the door behind him. "Alright, you're done. Leave through the door behind me and come back to the arena when the announcement is given. We'll inform everyone of which tier they are in then." Alex stood up and, without another word, left the room in silence. "That boy... He's probably one of two people who can actually challenge Koyomi at this Academy. However... I don't trust that he'll stick to the rules." As Mr. Akuma finished speaking to himself, the door before him opened and the other challenger appeared. "Now then Mr. Nisshoku, take a seat." Haru smiled sweetly and sat down. "Well, I'm ready when you are teach."

Arsinoe stared. Now she felt insulted. Even if he was a Valentine, the fool was treating her as if she were a mere mortal! She wasn’t going to let herself get walked on…especially by a Hunter. Regardless if he was a Valentine. She clipped her fans, closing them tight. “…sorry, but you’ll have to find that on your own.” Arsinoe said as she pointed her fan at him. “I don’t care if you are a Valentine, you have only proven that you are an @$$hole.” Arsinoe hissed, she turned her back to him. “May I also say that the interrogations have a limited time for it to last, and unless you want to absolutely miss it by trying to pinpoint where in the academy it is-” Arsinoe glared at him back. “You will apologize and ask for me to show you kindly and with a respect that a Tamir deserves!!!” Arsinoe shrieked, a single ring of fire suddenly springing around the two as multicolored flames rose around them, the heat increasing by every passing second, as it danced to Arsinoe’s command. Her eyes not only demanded respect, it demanded attention and praise. It looked as if she were mad. No, pissed. Yeah. That was it. No one, treats me like that, and gets away with it.” Arsinoe hissed, her eyes blazing with anger as her. It was either she got her way…or she would beat it out of you. That was the Tamir way. The students were already standing outside the ring of fire, only to seemingly back away once they saw it was Arsinoe who was getting mad.

“Aw!!!~ It’s Cross!!!” Rose squealed as she watched from the window. She was squealing so much that it was hard to keep her up. “Hold still, I’m losing balance on you!” Anubis asked. “Ahhh~ He’s so dreamy~” Rose sighed, daydreaming as her cheeks flushed pink. Kori rolled her eyes. “I don’t get why you’re into a guy like that? His family isn’t even in the top three!” Kori said. “Wait, he isn’t? I’ve heard so much good stuff about the Cross!” Anubis asked. Kori shook her head. “The top three families are; the Tamir, the Camilla, and the Valentine. The Cross have always been powerful, but short in coming to third. So they’re fourth. Always. Which I’m pretty sure will cause some problems if he ends up encountering Valentine.” Kori explained. “Well am I interrupting something?” The three girls turned. It was Stratos. “OH SHI-” And like that, Kori dropped Anubis, who dropped Rose, the girls falling with a yelp onto the ground. “We weren’t looking at boys I promise!” Stratos shook her head. “I don’t care. I am here for Thanatos.” Stratos said. Anubis peeked her head from the pile of girls. “Me?” Stratos offered her hand. “It’s time for the interrogation.”

Realising that Arsinoe was not going to let him pass unless she had her way, Koyomi began laughing to himself. "Miss Tamir!" Very dramatically, Koyomi spread his hands to either side and fell to a single knee in front of Arsinoe. Giving her the sweetest of smiles, he put a single hand on where his heart would be. "I sincerely apologise for my rude actions. All this time, I was monitoring your behaviour after taking an..." Koyomi's gaze wavered as he began to blush. "... interest in you. I decided to push you to see how you would react and now I am sure! You are truly worthy of the Tamir name. You have enchanted me with your incredible strength and will power. Please, forgive me." Koyomi bowed his head and stared at the floor. "(I can't afford to miss that interrogation... For now, she should believe my plea. My acting skills are flawless after all.)" Koyomi waited for an answer from Arsinoe, hoping that he made a significant impact on her.

Haru stretched as he exited the building, completing his Psycho-Analysis test. "That was a pain... It wasn't very hard, but I still didn't feel too comfortable about answering all of those questions." "You and me both." Haru was then approached by Alex. "Oh. You're Alex, right?" "Yes. Nice to meet you Haru Nisshoku. I understand that we'll be put in the same tier." "Yeah, maybe." "I am sure someone who scored a 99 on the written test will be able to achieve a place in the first tier, so do not worry." Haru laughed hesitantly as he was suspicious of Alex's positive attitude. "So, uhh, did you want something?" "In fact, there is. I would like you to tell me everything you know about Koyomi." Haru groaned a little as he scratched his head. "It's always that guy everyone wants to know about... Well, let's walk and talk." "Very well." The two hunter students then began walking around the campus as Haru began to explain what he knew. "To begin, Koyomi is an 18 year old guy, just like us. However, he is by far the smartest guy I have ever met. He took a professional IQ test and the examiners said his mind was off the charts. Due to his super intellect, he does find everything about the human world boring. He treats everything like a game, always aiming to win flawlessly." Alex nodded, crossing his arms as he took some mental notes on Koyomi's personality. "Also, don't trust everything Koyomi says. He is an expert liar. Not even I know when he's telling the truth." "Sounds like quite the handful." "You're telling me. Well, due to the nature of things, he's never felt challenged until he was introduced into this world. I think... He's just looking for a worthy opponent, no matter which side they're on." "Then I will give him what he wants." Haru giggled a little. "You think you can beat him alone? Get real! If you want to beat Koyomi..." Haru smiled deviously. "... then you're going to need some help." Haru extended his hand. "What do you say we work together to overcome the great Koyomi Valentine?" Alex smirked, shaking Haru's hand. "Excellent. I look forward to cooperating with you, Haru."

Arsinoe looked down at Koyomi. His act was incredible, never a man had ever presented himself to her in such way! No hunter nor mere human. Koyomi was the first. With her fan, she hid the forming blush upon her cheeks. “(Enchanted you huh?)” That was something ironic to say to a witch, but she couldn’t help but to smile, hiding it behind her fan as she believed every single word. She cleared her throat and concentrated, the fire calming down its intensity and dying down, until eventually disappearing and only leaving scorch marks on the ground around them. “I am flattered. You are forgiven for your ignorance…for now.” Arsinoe said as she turned on her heels. “Follow me, Koyomi.” Arsinoe said, finally bringing herself to say his name instead of his last name. Arsinoe walked away, leading Koyomi to one of the buildings. Leading him down a hall she opened a door that had a sign that said ‘BASEMENT’ in large letters. Upon opening the door, it showed a spiral staircase that led to a viewing room with seats, and a magic glass that gave view to the interrogation room. “Down here.” Arsinoe said as she started to walk down the stairs.

...

Kori and Rose yawned together. Anubis had been taken away, they had decided to get themselves a smoothie right before heading to the interrogation room, also known as the basement. It was soon to be night too. The sun was already settling down. “Hey, did you like, hear the rumors, that the school is understaffed this year? Half of the teachers got killed last year.” Kori explained, taking a sip of her strawberry drink. “What?! Well that would explain why I didn’t see that many…” “Well those who graduate usually decide to take a separate career besides being a teacher here. We didn’t had that many to start with. They’re going to have substitutions though.” Just as Rose was about to ask a question, she gasped and pulled Kori back into the hall. “W-What the-” “It’s HIM.” Kori blinked and looked around the corner. Haru and Alex were talking down the hall. “Oh. Cross.” Kori said with annoyance. “Let’s take another way! I’m not even wearing cute clothing today!” “You look fine.” Kori smirked. What a perfect way to tease Rose. She grabbed Rose by the wrist and dragged her down the hallway, despite Rose’s silent complaints and smacks against the hand. “OI CROSS, HARU KID, WHAT’S UP?” Kori asked as she dragged Rose down to the two, who hid her embarrassed face behind Kori’s back. Kori smirked to herself. “Sorry if we haven't introduced ourselves, Cross. I'm Kori Camilla, and this is Rose Altheda. We’re going to see the interrogation of a demon. Since we happened to cross paths, maybe you two could come with us.” Kori said, before pulling Rose away from her back and right next to her. “It can be a double date!”

Following Arsinoe's clear instructions and remaining directly behind her as they traversed the deeper levels of the academy, Koyomi arrived at the interrogation room and gazed at the magical glass that would eventually separate the demons from the students. "(So... I'll get to see another demon....)" Koyomi closed his eyes, an image of the demonic girl named Alice drifting into his mind. "(... Another one like her. The demons... I want to find out what they are and what drives them. If I can figure that out, then I can win pretty easily. But then, that would be too easy...)" Sitting down with his hands crossed, Koyomi made sure to acquire a front row seat for the "performance". Pretending to, once again, be the innocent Koyomi, the white haired boy looked up at Arsinoe with a question. "Miss Tamir... Why is it that Demon's invade the human world? Could it be for our souls? Or our bodies? Maybe our resources... I'm afraid that I only became aware of this world yesterday, so I don't know a lot unfortunately. Could you fill me in on the general details perhaps?" Koyomi asked, adding a sweet and innocent smile that hid his true and deceitful intentions. Unbeknownst to anyone in the room however, the Masamune began to go under some major modifications while in its sheath. Changes that would truly effect Koyomi's life in ways that he could not fathom.

~Meanwhile~

The boys stared bewildered at Rose and Kori who had approached them. Both of them looked from the girls to each other, but Alex was the first to begin smiling. "A double date to see a demon interrogation eh? This could be quite interesting, do you not agree Haru?" "Uhhh, yeah..." Haru appeared to be quite nervous about the predicament, while Alex remained cheerfully calm. "(It is quite obvious that the blue haired one is the more dominant of the two. Forgive me Haru, I just cannot get along with loud people.)" Alex put his hands on Haru's shoulders, pushing him slightly in the direction of Kori. "Haru, I believe you are well suited with this female and her optimistic personality. While you two go on together, I will address my attention to the extremely cute girl in pink." Alex said with a golden smile and a wink for good measure, all pointed in Rose's direction. Alex extended his hand to Rose with a smile. "Well my lady, shall we go?" As much as he admired Alex's gentlemanliness, Haru could not disagree more about which girl he had been partnered up with. "(This is crazy! This chick attacked me earlier! If I stick with her, I'll die! Seriously!)" However, Haru was unable to protest out loud due to a certain tendency he had developed since he was younger. In a one-to-one situation, Haru was in fact incredibly nervous about talking with women. "S-S-So... Let's go..." Haru bit his lip nervously, putting his hands in his pockets and turned away to hide his embarrassment, waiting for the other three to come with him to the interrogation.

Rose felt a blush cover her face, her heart go doki-doki as the Alex Cross was talking to her, asking her to come with him. She could barely contain her excitement as she nodded, taking his hand and internally squealing the moment she felt his warmth. She would later admire his scent on her hand for hours before having to wash herself up. “Y-Yes~” Rose spoke, responding in barely a whisper as she had an awestruck smile. Kori wasn’t going to let Haru off so easily. She grabbed Haru by the shoulder, pulling him close as she smiled. “Hey, I know you! You ran away when I tried to fight against you!” Kori said. Her gaze hardened to a small glare. “I don’t like cowards.” She muttered, her red eyes piercing at Haru’s stature as the four of them walked over to the interrogation room.

Arsinoe paused for a moment and looked over at Koyomi, then glanced away.

“Well I might as well give you an early history lesson.” Arsinoe said as she stared at the glass and cleared her throat. “This is according to history passed down by generations, as well as written text. Originally in this world, there were no humans. Only demons from Hell, and Angels from heaven, who were constantly at war against each other, both sides fighting for their right of the living world itself. The war would’ve destroyed both sides and the world with it were not for a third party being formed. These were called Nephilim, off spring of a demon and an angel mating, creating a more powerful and dangerous breed. The two sides agreed to stand-still in order to eliminate this third party. However, by the end of the era, only a single, unaccounted Nephilim remained. God and Lucifer made a pact that their war would remain as it is, a standstill, until the final Nephilim was eliminated. This has been going on for thousands of years now. Though angels have retreated to their realm, Demons were given permission to roam among the mortal world, in search of the remaining Nephilim, who remains out there, somewhere.” Arsinoe explained as she sighed. “However, some Demons have taken an advantage on such situation in order to do as they please. Demons will try to possess humans and will cause chaos, which is why we witches and hunters exist, in order to stop them from doing such things. In short, the demons roam the mortal world because it is their job…and because they want to do whatever they want.” Her eyes snapped over at Koyomi. “Any other questions?”

“OI, the princess is here!”

Arsinoe felt her body twitch as she turned over to the group just walking in. Haru, Kori, Rose and Alex, all walking into the room.

“You.” Arsinoe hissed, specifically at Kori before looking away, taking a seat next to Koyomi before it was taken. “If you’re here to watch the interrogation then please be quiet about it, I don’t want you screaming and distracting us from enjoying this.”

“Aw come on princess you’re being too stiff.”

“Stop calling me that!”

“Ah you two always fighting.” Rose said, though she was still awestruck as she stood by Alex.

Before Arsinoe could respond to that, the doors from the room across the glass opened, the staff getting ready for the interrogation. Pulling the curtain away from the middle of the room revealed a single, steel chair, bolted to the ground, with bloody straps on the arm rests and on the legs. As Hanna started to throw some salt around the chair, Anubis walked in, sitting down right on the chair before being strapped down.

Koyomi's mind was travelling at thousands of miles an hour, digesting the entirety of what Arsinoe had just said. However, a very dark thought began to shape itself in Koyomi's imagination, one that was becoming harder and harder to get rid of. "(Demon's roam the Earth to find the last Nephilim that escaped the great war before humanity's creation. Nephilim... A Nephilim... One who was born of an angel and a demon... They would have most likely grown up alone without knowing their parents or their past. Being both angelic and demonic, it can be assumed that this individual will have great power. One like the human race has never seen.)" Koyomi watched as Haru and Alex arrived with the other girls, wanting to also see the interrogation. "Koyomi, you already here?" "Shut up..." Haru stared at Koyomi bewildered as his eyes were wide and he bit down hard on his thumb. "... What is it K?" "Just shut up! Everyone shut up! Don't talk, don't breathe, don't even think! Just stay quiet! I need to enter the 'Library'." Everyone stared at Koyomi as he began to sit in an awkward position with his legs crossed and his hands clenched into fists, pointing towards each other. Haru stared at Koyomi, much in the same way everyone else was. He then began to whisper to the whole group quietly. "This is the first time I've seen this happen... If you're wondering, Koyomi developed a place in his mind called 'the library'. There, he can access any information he has learnt since he was born. Just, don't disturb him... If you do, it won't be good." Haru then sat down, feeling more comfortable now that he wasn't alone with Kori anymore. Alex stared at Koyomi intrigued and sat on his own, expecting Rose to sit next to him as Kori would probably sit between himself and Haru. "(Koyomi Valentine... Are you even human? No Hunter I have ever met can possibly be this smart, and yet here you are. Truly, you are worthy of your family name.)" Koyomi's breathing seemed to stop completely as he entered his 'library'.

Opening his eyes, Koyomi appeared in am unimaginably large library with books, documents and files on everything that he had ever learnt throughout his entire life. Moving towards an area that said 'Restricted Section', Koyomi kicked down the door that blocked him and entered the section of the library that even he did not dare to remember. Holding out his hands, a set of ten files seemed to fly directly out of the shelves and into his hands. "July 12th, 15 years ago. I was found on the door step of the Valentine household. Taking me in, I was treated as their son and later became the official heir to the Valentine household. I did not know that the Valentine family was a household of Witches, but what I did know is that I had incredible influence in the mortal world." Throwing one file onto a table, Koyomi opened up another. "May 5th, 13 years ago. I was registered as an intellectual genius, capable of communicating on par with adults. I was the smartest four year old in recorded history. This information was kept away from the general public to avoid attention. I now know that this was because I belonged to a Witch family." Throwing a few more files away, Koyomi opened up the final folder in his hands. "December 12th, 10 years ago. I go under extreme tests to determine exactly how intelligent I am. The scientists let me go after only one month as I prove that my intelligence cannot be calculated. One of the scientists said, and I quote "It's as if that boy can live and learn thousands of years worth of information within only a single second." and implied that I am not human." Koyomi slammed the final folder down on the table and held his spare hand out, an empty folder appearing in his hand. "This is it. This is the truth. I have found out everything!" The empty folder soon became filled with papers, falling gently onto the table in front of Koyomi. Opening, the folder's first paper held a single title. "This restricted section is all about my life. And now, I have a feeling this folder will explain everything. The title... "Nephilim". The Nephilim, a lone survivor of an entire race that transcends the world in which he belongs. Gaining powers and abilities that humanity cannot even compare to, the Nephilim is the only thing in the way between all out war from heaven and hell. This Nephillim must have lived for an unnumbered amount of time. Unless he could not age, this Nephilim should be dead. But, if the Nephilim somehow survived and arrived on Earth, then it's highly possible that he would be unaware of who he truly is. Therefore... I could be... the last Nephilim." Koyomi sat down on a chair, staring at the file as he traced it with his hand. "But... I don't have proof. It's an explanation, but until I acquire proof, then I can only say that I am 'super human'. I need to find proof that will decide what I am. Am I a human? Or am I a Nephilim? Either way... I am not going to back down. Even if god is my enemy." Within that moment, Koyomi's library vanished into a white smoke, leaving him alone in a completely blank area. In front of him however, Koyomi found what appeared the Masamune floating in front of him. "How are you here?" The sword simply floated in front of him as Koyomi took a step forward and reached out with his hand. When Koyomi took hold of the blade's hand, his eyes shot open as an extraordinary feeling completely overwhelmed his senses. "This is... power!"

Returning to reality, Koyomi breathed heavily as he stared at his hand. "(Power... I felt it... That was the Masamune's power.)" Looking around, Koyomi felt the eyes of the others locked directly onto him. "You find anything good to read?" Realising that only a few seconds had passed since he went under, Koyomi put on one of his fake smiles and sat back in his chair. "Wouldn't you like to know... Let's just relax and enjoy the show." Haru sighed, knowiing that he wouldn't get anything more from Koyomi and decided to listen to him. The group then took their seats and waited patiently for the interrogation to begin.

Anubis was strapped down tightly against the chair, blessed oil covering the metallic straps and a circle of a salt surrounding the chair. A demon, once slayed, could not simply return to the human world. However, a slayed demon could be called from hell through the ritual of possession. Allowing a demon to possess a human body. It came with the risks of using the body as a portal to the human world again. But they were ready.

"Do you agree to take the risks involving possession, as the contract says?" Hanna recited.

"I agree." Anubis said. A second later she was fed a red liquid, demon blood.

"I wonder how that tastes..." Lori muttered, Rose bleching at the thought.

As Anubis drank the blood, she closed her eyes, her head hanging down. For about a minute there was silence, before the temperature of the room drastically changed. Frost formed on the chair, across the floor and crawling up the walls and glass. The air became still and Anubis' hands began to twitch. Anubis gave a chuckle before lifting her head up. Her eyes were as black as coal. There was nothingness within. The demon had arrived. Anubis moved her hands, hearing the sound of the restraints.

"...a possession ritual...teasing a demon isn't a nice thing to do...you know..." Anubis spoke, her voice sounding like multiple voices speaking at once, Anubis' and the Demon's. "A necromancer no less. I thought they were extinct."

"Speak your name, demon." Stratos said, the rest of the staff recording and taking down notes. Anubis tilted her head.

"I am Dispair. I feed upon the loss, the grief, the feelings that make this earth mortal." Anubis spoke.

"You have been summoned for interrogation. You will answer truthfully or none at all." Stratos said. Anubis hummed. "How many demons are still roaming?"

"That would be like asking how many fake hay is within a hay stack...I cannot answer."

"Has there been any angelic interaction between demons?"

"A bit too often...there are angels roaming among mortals too, you know..."

"Is there a reason for the demons to still stay in the mortal world otherwise than for the use of its resources?"

"Why of course." Anubis lifted her head, staring straight through the glass at the students watching. Her gaze seemed to connect with Koyomi's. "The last Nephilim still lingers. Living. Growing. It's out there, and our lord knows that either we eliminate it, or the balance of this world shall be reckoned with beyond fix." Anubis hissed. Hanna turned over to Stratos, whispering to her as the demon spoke again. "Why won't the students come out?" Anubis never broke her gaze. "They are witnessing, they might as well ask questions. Ask me something. Anything." Anubis teased at the students behind the glass.

Koyomi stared at the possessed Anubis endlessly, his gaze locked with the demon's. "(Is she... Acknowledging me?)" Koyomi stared, his mouth left open as he could not find the will to look away. "(She knows that we're watching... She knows that I am watching... I have to do something. I need to ask that question. I need to find out if I'm really the Nephilim everyone is searching for.)" Koyomi gripped the arms of the chair he was sat on, finally looking away from the demon and down at the ground. "(If I do ask that question, everyone else will find out as well. If that happens, there's no guarantee they won't lock me up and throw away the key. If they thought a demon was bad, what would they do if they found a Nephilim? I can't do anything but just sit here and wonder...)" Now that his attention was completely drawn away from the demon, Koyomi noticed the glowing Masamune that had appeared to him in his mind. Reaching down at the sword, Koyomi felt a large amount of heat being generated from it and reconsidered on taking hold of it. However, his eyes widened as he saw another hand reach down to the blade, picking it up and being burned in the process. Koyomi looked upwards quickly to find Haru staring at the demon, his grip on the Masamune becoming tighter despite the pain he was surely feeling from the blades heat. "Koyomi... I'm going to borrow this." Haru then walked from observation room to the room where the interrogation was taking place. Before the teachers had a chance to kick Haru out of the room, he pulled up a chair and sat directly in front of the possessed Anubis. "Alright Demon, I'm going to ask you just once... What do you know about the Demon King known as Leviathan?" Koyomi stared at Haru as he acted completely out of character, something that had even caught him off guard. "(What's up with him? The look in his eyes when he took the Masamune from me... He looked like he was about to kill someone. And then he asks for information on a Demon King? There's something he hasn't told me about his past... Something big.)" Koyomi could only watch as Haru commenced a fierce mental battle with the demonic creature. "I want to know what his plans are and how he's going to carry them out. If you don't tell me, I'll make sure you'll never be able to roam this world freely again."

“Hey-!” Hanna hissed, but Stratos stopped her, her gaze never leaving Haru and the demon. He was too close to the protective line of salt for comfort. Were a single grain of rice create a space, the demon would have an exit, another body to possess and a chance to run away into the human world. To have an emotional hunter however, it was even more dangerous. They were more worried that Haru would break the circle of salt. That was the only thing separating him from the demon. A demon that could rip him to pieces in his current state.

“What is that idiot doing, interacting with a demon? They can’t be trusted…” Arsinoe hissed.

“He looks scarier than he was a few seconds ago.” Rose whispered. Anubis blinked and tilted her head, paying attention at the hunter before her. She laughed, a smirk growing.

“His highness King Leviathan…” She chuckled a bit more, never looking away from Haru’s face. “His highness trusts us to keep his plans secret. We are to die with the secrets…return to our lord faithfully…however, what if I were to tell you that he’s in the human world? I could also be lying. He could be in his realm. Maybe. Maybe not. For you to ask of him so specifically…are you holding a certain grudge to his majesty? Revenge?...did his majesty kill one of your own which you held dear?!” Anubis smirked as she leaned as forward as she could, smiling at him. “Tell me…how did they die..?”

Haru sat back in his chair, his grip on the blade becoming even tighter, his hand starting to scar from the blistering heat he seemed to be ignorant of. Staring into Anubis' eyes, Haru could clearly see that the one looking back at him was a creature of demonic origin and knew that he could not trust a word it said. However, his patience reached its end when end when the Demon mentioned the ones that "he held dear". Standing up, Haru walked around behind the chair and began to tilt the chair using the sheath of the blade. "You said your name was Dispair, right? Well you see this circle that surrounds you? It's a ritual barrier used to contain you. Do you want to know... What happens when a demon comes into contact with a completed ritual barrier?" Tucking the blade's sheathe into the chair's back as leverage, Haru pushed the Dispair forward to the point that her face was pushed against the barrier, causing the demon to scream from the pain. "I won't ask again. Tell me what you know about Leviathan!" Watching Haru's sudden and strikingly out of place brutality from the other side of the glass, Koyom watched the events unfold as if he were watching a movie. However, his attention was drawn to what Arsinoe mentioned about the barrier being broken. From that moment, an idea began to form in Koyomi's mind. A risky idea, but one that he was willing to gamble on. Alex watched from a few seats down as Koyomi got to his feet, smirking as if he knew what he was planning. "(Well Valentine, let's find out if you're really strong enough to live in this world.)" Koyomi entered the interrogation room and pulled Haru away from Dispair. "What's wrong with you? Even I know you can't do whatever you want here! Just go back to the waiting room." Haru however was unwilling to back down, not even to Koyomi. "You really think you know me, don't you? In fact, you don't know anything." Koyomi then took hold of the Masamune, feeling a warm sensation through his hand. "Even if I know nothing, you need to calm down Luna." "No! You need to leave me alone!" Koyomi quickly came to a deduction that Haru's desire to kill was being brought forward due to his current connection to Masamune. "(So if I take the sword... Yes, this is perfect.)" Koyomi then tugged hard on the blade, tearing it out of Haru's hands. But as he did this, Koyomi's foot slid back and made a slight opening in the barrier. "(Now then demon, why don't we play a little game in my head?)"

Hanna’s eyes widened.

“NO!” She screamed, but it was too late. It was broken. Anubis smirked as without a struggle, she shattered the restraints on her body. Before Stratos could pull them out of the way, Anubis turned to Haru as she jumped onto her feet, spinning on her heels before kicking Haru across the room with an inhuman strength. Strong enough to send him flying into the glass, and right through it. The girls yelped as glass flew at their faces, Arsinoe quickly using her fans and the wind to whoosh the pieces of glass away from her. Rose quickly rose a shield around her and Alex, protecting them from the shards. Kori’s reflexes allowed her to backflip from her seat and out of the way with ease before catching Haru in her arms.

“What the hell was he thinking?!” Arsinoe hissed.

“I swear Hunters are getting bolder every day more.” Kori hissed as she settled Haru down. Rose quickly climbed over her seat and hurried over to Haru.

“Let me heal him!”

“Koyomi!” Arsinoe yelled, watching as a possessed Anubis dashed right in front of Koyomi, wrapping her arms around the Hunter’s neck.

“What a bold little Hunter…let me taste your Despair…” Anubis hissed, before pulling Koyomi into a full on kiss. The moment their lips connected, a mental connection was also made, the Despair demon entering Koyomi’s mind while still restricted to Anubis’ body.

“Stratos!”

“Call him in.”

Inside the space in between the minds of Koyomi and the Demon’s, all was white and endless. A figure started to walk towards Koyomi from a sudden distance. This figure was a young man around his age. He was pale, with stunning blue eyes, and messy golden hair. He wore tattered leather clothing, strapped tight to his shapely body. This was Despair. In its desired form, that is.

“Why hello there Hunter. Do you like how I look? This was the body belonging to a young man that fell into despair, and gave his body to me in order to get rid of such despair…I ate his soul…along with many others before him.” The demon had red aura around him, smirking wildly at Koyomi. “I could’ve added your Hunter friend to my collection, but you interrupted…how about I add you instead?”

Haru groaned in pain, coughing as his vision remained blurred. "(What the hell just happened...?)" Looking up, the black haired boy noticed the shattered glass and the now motionless pair of Koyomi and Anubis who were currently locking lips. "(What are they... Wait! The demon!)" Haru attempted to sit up, but felt a tremendous surge of pain rush to his abdomen as he did. "You had better stay where you are, scary Mr Nisshoku." Haru looked over at Alex who seemed to be the only one who was keeping calm. "Scary? ..." Haru looked down at his hand to see the extremely burnt skin being healed by Rose's magic. "Masamune... It really is cursed..." "Looks like it. Your true nature came to the surface it would seem. Quite fascinating in my opinion. However, what is even more interesting is the scene playing before us." Alex turned back to the two who were left in the interrogation room. "You see Haru, the barrier was broken thanks to your wrath and now the demon appears to be trying to escape from Anubis' body and into Koyomi's. However, something is odd." "Odd?" "Indeed. The demons migration seems to have halted. It is as if something is blocking the demon's entry to Koyomi's mind. Perhaps Koyomi's will is strong enough to overcome a demon possession." Haru stared at Alex before falling back flat on his back. "But that's... Not humanly possible."

As Despair appeared in his true form, Koyomi gave a slow clap. "I have to say, that's quite the change in attire." Koyomi himself was sitting on a royal throne with a large table in front of him. On this table was many gourmet meals of the highest and finest quality available. "You know, I've always wished that me eating here would stop me from getting hungry on the outside, but that's a problem for another time. Sit." As if by some incomprehensible force, Despair seemed to suddenly be pushed into a chair that appeared out of nowhere. The chair itself was cheap and wooden, meant to emphasise the difference between the two. Moving of its own accord, the chair brought Despair up to the table as Koyomi continued to snack on his imaginary feast. "Now, this is the situation you believe is happening. You think that you are invading my mind in order to escape from Anubis' ritual, but in reality, you really should have picked someone else. The truth is, I am forcibly dragging you out of Anubis' mind and into mine. Wanna know the difference between the two scenarios I mentioned?" Koyomi smirked darkly, his eyes pulsing in a dark and blood-like colour. "If I allow you into my mind, it's only because that's exactly where I want you to be." Koyomi clicked his fingers and giant concrete pillars began to rain down from the sky, trapping the two in a now dark and confined space. "You see, I have this power because out of the two of us, it would seem that my mind is the dominant one." Whipping his mouth with a napkin, Koyomi got to his feet and clicked his fingers once again. This time however, Despair's arms were bound by chains, tying him to the wall as Koyomi now appeared wearing a surgeon's outfit. With an evil chuckle and a pleasure filled grin, Koyomi picked up a large saw blade, rubbing it against the demon's neck. "Welcome to the torture room! Now, tell me everything you know about the last Nephilim or I'll make sure that your very soul is so crippled that it won't even be able to drag itself back to hell."

Despair stared silently, seemingly unimpressed, as if it expected this.

“I knew it.” It hissed. “You aren’t human.” It sighed. “Nephilim. I’ve never met one. They are a rare species that happens when a demon and an angel mate. They are dangerous, and therefore must be eradicated in order to restore the balance that has been broken. We have been searching for the last Nephilim for years in hopes to restore the balance that is changing the world as we speak. Whether it is going down for good or for bad is uncertain. But it is why we haste in order to find the last Nephilim, who has avoided detection for the past thousands of millennia. We don’t know anything about the Nephilim because no activity has been detected, only its life force. Whether it is a female, a male, an animal, it is even hard to distinguish that alone.” Despair paused. Looking up at Koyomi. “You however are far too interested in this sort of thing to be a normal hunter…you aren’t human…so why are you here out of all places?” Despair smirked slightly. “Well…if you must know…there is one thing that we all do know about the Nephilim…and that is-” But before Despair could reveal the plot relevant information, stitches appeared around his lips as his mouth was sown shut, even though it wasn’t Koyomi’s actions or thought.

“You have spoken enough, Despair.” An extra voice said, echoing across the mind. Another player had entered into the field. From behind Koyomi walked out a man taller than Koyomi, wearing mostly dark clothing, a black cloak with a high collar floating right behind him. A halo appeared over his head, small cracks appearing upon it. Behind him were two pairs of angelic wings, two glowed bright as gold, the other two dark as ebony. Whoever he was had enough power to enter Koyomi's mind and become part of it like a user more than a guest. “It is not your place to reveal such information. Nor it is your place to remain here if you have been slayed by a Witch, or a Hunter.” The man said, speaking calmly, his expression monotone. He turned to Koyomi, looking down on him. “And it is not your place to take interrogations unless you are given permission to. Because of you, my daughter has been put in danger. If you want more information…come and find me.” The man raised his arm, pointing it at Koyomi. “In the name of the father, the son, and the holy spirit; Release.” And with that, Koyomi’s mind shattered into pieces, forcing him back into reality.

The same man in Koyomi’s mind stood holding Anubis in his arms, looking down at an unconscious Koyomi. Though this time he did not wore a halo nor wings. Rose healed Haru as Anubis and Kori glanced over at the messy scene. No one said a word as the man turned on his heels and started to walk out.

Koyomi slowly regained consciousness, a dark look rested upon his face as he searched for the one who stole the answers from him. "(That man... He must have been Anubis' father... I need to find him and get him to tell me what he knows. That demon said that I was not human... But as far as I know, I could very well be a half creed rather than the Nephilim. I don't have enough evidence yet...)" Koyomi sighed, his expression becoming more relaxed as he found an arm in front of him. "You really know how to put on a show Mr Valentine." Alex teased with a smile, helping Koyomi up to his feet. "Tell me, was there a man who left this room before I awoke? If so, did he give any suggestion as to where he was going to be?" "None at all I am afraid. He was quite mysterious. With little effort, he separated you from the necromancer and carried her away. From my perspective, the man appeared to be the girl's father." "Yes, he appeared in my head and I received the same impression." From the stands, Haru sat up and watched as Koyomi and Alex theorised on the experience they had just undergone. "One little interrogation and they're the best of friends, just great~..." Feeling better thanks to Rose's magic, Haru began to stand while making sure to hold on to the wall for support. "In some ways, those two are just too much alike..." Haru sighed as his gaze glanced up at a clock. "Oh... Looks like we'll be able to find out what Tiers we're in about half an hour. Hey! Sherlock one and two, the Hunter exam results will be released soon! We should get going!" Koyomi and Alex sighed in sync with each other, knowing already which tier they would be put in. "Fine, lets go." Alex nodded in agreement and began heading. Turning to the ladies, the dreamy blonde gave a sweet smile and a wave with his eyes closed. "See you all later! I had fun~!" Koyomi was about to leave when he looked back at Arsinoe. "(In order to make what I said earlier sound convincing, I should probably do something to show my gratitude... Human beings are so annoying, even if they are magical.)" Koyomi approached Arsinoe with a smile. "Miss Tamir, I am very grateful for you bringing me here today. I look forward to meeting up with you again someday soon." Koyomi then calmly took her hand and kissed it, giving a small bow afterwards before heading out. In the background, Haru watched bewildered at Koyomi's actions, not understanding the relationship he was beginning to form with Arsinoe. "(Did I miss something?!)" Haru shook his head in an attempt to forget about Koyomi's unimaginable antics. Finally determining that it was time to go, Haru turned back at Rose and Kori. "Hey, uhhh... Thanks for healing me up, I owe you one." Haru blushed a little, now realising that he was surrounded by three women that he considered to be quite beautiful, activating his shy side. "W-W-Well... It was n-nice meeting you all... Thank you again!" Haru bowed and quickly left the area, rejoining Alex and Koyomi who had been waiting for him. "Well, what took you so long?" Haru's face still being red from when he left the three girls behind, he could only bring himself to respond with an embarrassed and stuttering tone in his voice. "N-N-Nothing!" Smirking, Koyomi turned away and began walking towards main building to get his results. "Well in any case, let's get this over with. It's been a long day for all of us." "I concur with Koyomi. Even I cannot continue for much longer considering today's number of extreme situations. I hope that tomorrow may bring a slightly easier set of events." "Fine fine fine, lets go." And so, the three Hunters-to-be set out for the main building in order to find out what there rank was for their first year at Twilight Academy.
