A small village near the boss tower on Aincrad's first floor was now bustling. A meeting was to be held in a few days, and many of the strongest players in SAO had gathered to prepare. Players gathered around the town to chat, trade items, exchange stories, and form new parties. Seeing this could almost make someone forget that everyone in the castle was currently trapped in a death game... However, these players had arrived in order to finally make an effort to end the unnecessary deaths.

Within the town, players were mostly populating the areas in the marketplaces. The streets near various stores were packed with the highest level players in the game, all trading tips and buying new supplies. A new quest had been discovered being offered by the town blacksmith, and many players were crowded around his store as a result. The circular, open-air meeting ground in the center of town was also crowded with players who were trying to form parties, hear rumors about new quests, and a group of mischievous teenage boys trying to flirt with the girls they met. Regardless of where they were, players could hear voices echoing off of the buildings and structures throughout the village.

Keimei was lying down on a bench in a small park on the edge of the town, staring up at the sky. She wasn't like most of the other people in town. She hadn't managed to form a party yet. She was all alone. She sighed, staring at the ceiling high above her head. I should probably go do a quest soon... I need to keep up with my training so I can go on the boss raid. I'm not going to let that chance slip by. She thought to herself, although she didn't really move. She was too busy lost in her own thoughts to do so. I wonder if I'll ever end up in a party...? It seems like everyone else is in one at this point. I doubt I can keep going solo for much longer...

"A new quest..." Abisk rolled out of the crowd of quest-hungry people, new quest in hand. "I didn't even get a chance to read the info on it..." He sighed, opening the quest log in the menu, he moved quickly over to his favorite bench in town. he examined the quest procedures, hardly worth it, but the mystery surprise would be the big ticket, he sighed, not paying attention, and sat on the bench, or as far as he thought was the bench, when in fact it was someone's feet. Shocked, he quickly stood up, and apologized. "I-I'm sorry, I didn't mean to sit on you..." He said to the re-haired girl sprawled out on the bench.

Keimei's eyes widened when she realized someone sat on her feet. Luckily for the boy, she wasn't really the type to get mad. "I-it's okay..." She said, more embarrassed than hurt. Quickly realizing the opportunity she now had, she decided to try talking to him. "So... Do you have a party? It's rare to see a solo player out here these days. Most people get here with some friends." She sat up, leaving some space for the other player to sit next to her.

The road to Town was busy with questors, but a lone figure was walking against the tide. On her brow was a shining tiara, the quest reward. Having gotten the quest as soon as it was available, before word spread, Aether made her way to the town square, and stood before the crowd. On her back was her Beta Tester special weapon, Kusanagi. She shoved through the crowd and handed over the quest slip, and pocked some col, before leaving the NPC to fight the crowd. She ignored the murderous looks, and...there.

Abisk.

Aether walked over to where he was harassing a girl he sat on, and punched his shoulder.

"You. Quest reward is headgear." She tapped the tiara she wore. "Watch out for an ambush." Then she looked at the girl...and rolled her eyes. "Maybe pick up the tiara as an apology for sitting on someone." Aether turned to walk off, hood going back up. "Stay alive. My goal is to beat you one day. No more draws."

"You were always faster at grabbing the quests, but then again you were the one always falling into the world during the Beta, so I guess you need some sort of luck with something." Abisk called back, then taking a seat at the bench where the girl made room.

"No, I prefer to solo, the EXP and money is easier to farm that way overall."He sat back in the bench, looking towards the sun, he looked at his level. "Already at the cap... it's frustrating." He looked at the girl. "How about you? Scouting out some members that you could get to join in your's?"

Keimei heard the two talk to each other. They seem kinda hostile... Do they know each other? She wasn't too interested, until Abisk replied. "Wait... You two are both beta testers?" She stood up, excited by her luck. Two beta testers... This is perfect! "Uh... Yes, you're right, sir. I am scouting out party members. And, uh, I know you said you're a solo player... But would you two like to form a party with me?" She asked, hoping they'd say yes. She doubted both would join, but even one would be helpful.

Aether didn't even break stride. "Least I don't end up dying to boars because I was busy laughing at the girl who tripped off the edge."

As Kei asked, she stopped.

"I'm a solo player. Abisk is the team player." She resumed walking. "He was one of the best, so have fun."

She soon was out of earshot, and turned a corner. Betas were handing out guides. Good for them.

Sliding past them, she entered the shop and accosted the storekeeper. She soon was trading excess things she picked up, nothing major. With maybe twenty more col in her pocket, she exited and headed for the inn.

Catcalls and suggestive taunts came her way, and she ignored them like the idiots IRL.

They meant nothing to her.

She was here to survive. Not have a good time.

Abisk made a quiet squeak of annoyance and slight anger at Aether for the "Better in groups" remark. "You just like to seal my doom, don't you..." He thought, taking a light breath, he looked at the girl. "I don't know about that. The Beta Testers have a bad rap right now, a lot of people blame them for leaving everyone beind in this world, and honestly, I prefer playing solo... Guilds aren't my thing."

Keimei sighed as the girl left, and the boy said that he wasn't going to join her. "Oh... Okay. I guess I'll just go find someone else, then... Thanks for taking the time to listen, at least." She said, and began to walk off towards the meeting grounds. Maybe she'd find someone there. Heck, at this point, she'd gladly team up with the town perverts if it meant having a shot at surviving.

Abisk sighed, looking at the quest, and then at the time... "as much as I hate it, I can't solo a boss..." Abisk ran after the girl, catching her on the shoulder, he swallowed his breath, and plainly said "Look, I said I'm not into guilds. I'll party with you, at least till the floor boss is cleared." He stated. "That's my offer, take it or leave it."

She looked over her inventory. Anneal Blade, check...Kusanagi, as always...food, potions, and a teleportation crystal to town. She had a decent amount of money, but not enough for the new armor yet. So she wandered a bit more, until she sat down in the meeting place to kill time. Pervs kept trying their luck, and a few learned the hard way, as she beat him to a.pulp.

Left alone...Aether wished Sakurako was there.

"Akko..." she said softly. "...I miss you..."

"Really?!" Keimei quickly turned around, excited by the beta tester's offer. Heh, I knew I'd find someone to team up with! "I'm fine with that. I'm sure we'll be a great team, um..." She was about to say his name, then realized she didn't know it. He probably didn't know his, either. "My name's Keimei, by the way!" She introduced herself as she sent a party invite. "What's yours?"

Abisk ruffled his hair, but of course, the system just reset it back to where it was suppose to be. "God, what have I gotten myself into..?" He thought, clicking the accept button. "Abisk." He said plainly, looking around. "We need to make sure we have equipment. My last shield broke on me just a while ago when I was gathering Cor for a raid on a small dungeon I found earlier. Never enough potions either, and healing crystals are not easy to get." He looked around, trying to fine Aether again. "Plus we have this new quest to complete... We need to be ready."

(Gad dang guys chill for a couple o' seconds will you?)

"Ooh! I'll go!" Puawai exclaimed, jumping out of the crowd near Abisk and Keimei. "I haven't done the new quest yet either!" She said excitedly. The Sunny Monk was a people person, and while some may be cautious of others in this world, she was consistently trusting. Why not? People were inherently good, and if we were all trapped together, why wouldn't the goodness shine then? Then she caught sight of Abisk. "Oh right! You're that cool guy in the beta! The Silent Swordsman or something awesome like that. You were so good, probably didn't hear of me. Oh right, my name is Puawai!"

~~~~~
Ryonne enjoyed some soup he had made himself while sitting upon a bench in the marketplace. It was a simple recipe, and a simple joy, but cooking was still fun to him. Creating something by adding things together, and being able to enjoy it. Mmm, it didn't get better than that. What he did need though, was more ingredients. He glanced to the boss tower. He was planning to go. After all, he was one of top levelled players right now. Ryonne finished off the rest of his soup, and glanced at his inventory. Yeah. He needed ingredients. Ryonne stood, checked over his blade, swung it a couple of times, then began to set off.
"Am I a celebrity...?" Abisk thpught, putting his hands up in defense of himself "N-no, I'm just some dooface that got into the Beta, I'm no one special!" He chuckled in an attempt to seem like he wasn't freaking out. "There is a reason I came to this game with a diffrent starting avatar, but I guess since our real faces are showing, she somehow can tell it's me... Wait... Dose that mean she knows who I am IRL?" He kept chuckling, backing away. "I-I'm not the leader here, Keimei is, ask her if you can join!"
Glenn was having some problems with the "team" he was with. Not only did he have to cook and work for everyone but most of the item expenses came out of his own pocket. What's worse if this kept up he would be bankrupt pretty soon. As the situation called for he left the party despite knowing some of the people IRL.
'What the hell do i do now?' he asked himself as he looked at his level. It was enough if he would party but going solo was a little to much. In all disappointment he was left wandering the streets . The one thing he could do now was take his lute out of his inventory and start playing.
( He is playing the first soundtrack (3.54) I'll post the music here:
(I've been reading the Progressive novel, so I've got the whole early plot down.)
Shirai kicked a stone down the path he was heading. He didn't have anywhere particular to go. The basic sword clapped against his back as he marveled at the stone that was sent skittering across the stone blocks. To think a game could so easily simulate physics like that. The rock did seems slightly bouncier than real ones would, but it was damn close.
"It truly is another world," He said to himself, grinning and glancing up to the sky. He had a flashback, with how this all came to be. How the Log OUt button disappeared....
Death was the game now. One slip up and that was it. One stir-fried brain for you.
"Whelp...I probably should head off to the field soon.."
Puawai laughed. "Ha! Come on, I was in the beta too. Anyone who paid attention would hear rumors of the strongest player from the beta. You, if you didn't catch on." The Sunny Monk explained to the clearly confused Abisk. She thought for a moment longer. "I guess you would be a celebrity now wouldn't you? After all, this is our new world. It would only make sense that the best players would be well known." She said, commenting on their new reality. Media giants and celebrity status probably weren't something people would think about normally, considering they all wanted to get out of here as fast as possible instead of sticking around and doing the best with what they had. "Oh! I just remembered. I doubt you would recognize a silly little player like me, but I was known as the Sunny Monk back in beta." She mentioned offhandedly.
Death was the game now. One slip up and that was it. One stir-fried brain for you.
(I actually mentioned in the signups that it was a hacker that caused this, not Kayaba. Sorry if that wasn't clear enough)
Another beta player? Keimei was surprised by how lucky she was getting. "You'll be joining us, too? Alright!" Keimei smiled. "I'm Keimei. What's your username?" She asked as she sent the girl a party request. I think I'll be safe with these two... At least for now, anyway. "By the way... why did you call him the 'Silent Swordsman?' Were there titles back in the beta?"
"I called him the Silent Swordsman because that's what everybody called him. Titles are just decorative ways to address important layers I suppose. And if you weren't aware, this guy was really good at life." The. Sunny Monk continued.~~~~~Ryonne was walking down a path, towards a forest he knew had monsters that dropped some of the ingredients he needed. A rock smacked Ryonne in the ankle. It was small, inconsequential. He turned, and spotted the guy who kicked it. Another player, pretty much oblivious to the world around him. Ryonne exhaled, relaxing again. He came on edge easily these days. "I'd be more careful if I were you. Next guy to get hit with a rock might not be so nice." He cautioned Shirai.
Shirai glanced up. He had expected his rock to keep clattering about. Not for it to clack against someone's boot.
"Don't worry," He said to the clearly annoyed player, "With the Anti-Crime Area, nobody's gonna hurt me."
The Anti-Crime area was something Shirai was sure to use as much to his own benefit. So as long as he was within a 'Save Haven', he couldn't be harmed by another player. Worst you would get was a slight buzzing and knockback. Nothing would harm you here....lest you decided to venture out, and a pissed off player followed suit.
"And what's got you so on edge?"
"I-I'm not, I'm not him. We had very similar usernames, but I typed mine with an uppercase "I", from what I heard he wrote his with a "1". I'm just some scrub..." He voiced off, deciding to try and bullshit his way to freedom, he threw another lie on top of it. "Anyway, you're the Sunny Monk?! I've heard a lot about you, I've even seen you during a few boss raids, you're magnificent!" Another lie. He hoped that whoever this girl was, she would leave him alone, and they could get back to the mission. "A-Anyway, I think that Silent Swordsman fellow was a bit overhyped. I've seen him, he's not even five times as good as you were. I'd feel so much more at ease if you joined us for a while, I bed you have a ton of money you can share, too!"
Making friends wasn’t something he was used to, not for the 175cm tall Alistair. Just for the fact that he didn’t had any real friends, and talking them over a chat was easier than face to face. But he had to form a party eventually, he convinced himself. He had gone on solo for a long time, leveling up, grinding, but the raid against the first floor boss would begin soon, and unless you were in a party, you wouldn’t be allowed to go, for safety reasons. “(How am I supposed to make friends and a party in a matter of a day?)” Alistair sighed to himself as he walked around the busy streets, dodging people and mumbling apologies as he bumped into people walking the opposite way. Before he could rest however, a wonderful melody caught his attention throughout the talk of the people. Focusing on the melody, he followed it all the way to a young man who was playing his lute. “(So pretty!)” Alistair thought as he approached to him and started to clap. “Bravo~”
 ((Well its a good thing Aether is mostly uncaring.))"Abisk."Interruptions, interruptions. Aether was again back, looking as monotone and bleak as ever. Her shiny katana seemed to glint in the sunlight, and she zoned out everyone else. She had, although, figured out that Abisk was denying his title. Whatever. She was uncaring. Most called her the quiet bitch, the lonely swordswoman.
