Yup, you read right, 20 years ago the sensational A Goofy Movie was released in theaters everywhere and it was a big hit! While no longer a "modern comedy" (2015 is disappointingly nothing like 1995 unfortunately), many consider this movie to be a huge nostalgia trip for what the 90's were like...well, more like how we remember the 90's to be like. Leave it to Disney to take the best of every time period and shove it together in one movie, right? Anyway, the movie is just as funny, heartwarming, and nostalgically awesome today as it was when I was a kid, with plenty of memorable songs. Including one that would greatly affect my personality for a long time, which you all probably know yourselves. Something about not sitting down or something like that...?
Seriously though, Stand Out was probably the defining impression that this movie left on me. I had that song stuck in my head since day one and up until the day I discovered youtube, it had been one of the most elusive songs for me to ever get a hold of. And it wasn't the only elusive thing, I took me almost my whole life to finally find some sunglasses like that, and I discovered that hooded t-shirts STILL exist out there! And now I've finally taken up skateboarding!
Needless to say, this movie impacted me on a big level, there's lots to enjoy, learn, and love about this movie, not just in it's radical 90's-ness, but also in it's longstanding message about loving your family for who they are, because they'll always love you for who you are. I hope that as Kingdom Hearts fans, and hopefully by extension Goofy fans as well, you'll all share in this nostalgia with me.
And maybe discuss how neat it might be if Max was ever in a future title? Huh? HUUUUUHHH?
