So I was thinking, we all saw that Master Xehanort was reassembled in 3D and the one question on everyone mind was, why Master Xehanort? Why not Apprentice Xehanort? And I have a theory: What if when Ansem and Xemnas where defeated, Terra and Xehanort's hearts where somehow separated and each returned to their original bodies, restoring both Master Xehanort and Terra in the present day? The problem with this of course is the lack of proof that Master Xehanort's original body ever became a Nobody. There are those ominous quotes about "many roads" and "something left behind" that may allude to an, as of yet unknown, Nobody of Master Xehanrt's though even if such an entity exists it has yet to be discovered, much less defeated, rendering complete restoration impossible. But if this where the case it would mean that Terra is already out there somewhere, searching for answers as to what happened to Ven and Aqua (as it is unlikely he remembers anything from his time under Xehanort's thrall)

So, there you have it, a baseless theory with no supporting evidence and a ton of holes. Have fun tearing it apart.

P.S. Sorry if this is in the wrong place. It just seems lie KH3 woudl be the only game significantly affected by this theory.

Flaming Lea has a theory that Terra was restored, but is still Norted because he's harboring whatever heart Xemans may have begun to develop. Seems like a decent middle ground.

I personally think it's just the BBS version via time travel.

that's not really what I'd call "underwhelming" that's more "a plot point actually paying off"

Such as?

Did we really need an explanation for dual-wileding to begin with? Was Xion necessary to explain why Roxas left the Organization? Did Xehanort need to be an old geezer rather than the young apprentice he was initially introduced as? Is Time travel neccisary to explain what Xehanort's current plan is?Nomura only thinks one game ahead at a time, if that, so it's unavoidable than nonsense would come up as a result.

Maybe both? I mean there has to be reason it was Old Man Pervert instead of the version that they Heartless and Nobody actually came from.

I know; I meant to say it (Eraqus) would be underwhelming if it didn't pay off (ultimately failed to help Terra, despite that Blank Points buildup).

That's... not what a Macguffin is

A Macguffin is something that purely exists to move the story along. Mario's power stars are a good example. They're not important, you just need X number of them to proceed. Xion may be a useless character, but that's not what makes something a Macguffin (heck she goes against it, the plot was alreyad moving, they jsut inserted her into it after the fact)

It hasn't actually be confirmed what Eraqus did. It might be more akin to how Aqua protected Kairi, or his heart could be within Terranort, or who knows what else.

Was hoping DDD would hint at it.

Instead, time travel and MOAR RETCONS LOL.

So except for Xion everything I mentioned was a pointless MacGuffin because they moved the story (by creating more games) and where totally unnecessary. ven beign the reason for Sora's Synch Blade (since that will likely factor in in KH3) Xehanort being an old Keyblade Master instead of a corrupt apprentice, Time Travel. All these3 things move the story along but do so in completely unnecessary ways.

No, you missed the key word "purely" a macguffin has no purpose beyond advancing the plot. For example, if Xion appeared for a few seconds and told Roxas to leave the Organization, that would make her a macguffin

Kinda

macguffins usually refer to objects, not people

Terranort is a person, but the other poster said he woudl be a pointless MacGuffin.

No, I said Eraqus's Heart would be.

Ah okay. Still though, they heartold is the very essence of a person. So even Eraqus' heart would be a person because it's what makes him who he is.

Well, I had never thought about it that way, but if that's the case, then Terra is probably among the ranks of the new Organization, even though he's been restored.  As long as Master Xehanort has a hold of him, Terra will remain with the Seekers, and thus, even though his body may have been restored, he'll probably be under the old coot's control. :O
