My thoughts on Pokemon OmegaRuby\AlphaSapphire

Posted

Yeah yeah I'm very late to this but I've just finished the Delta episode and started catching legendaries and build a competitive team so here are my thoughts on ORAS and Gen 3 in general

Y'know, for a while Gen 3 used to be my least favorite generation and I used to say a lot of shit out of my ass about it without really experiencing too much of it heck I didn't even finish playing my copy of Pokemon Colosseum. But as the time went by some of the Pokemon in Gen 3 grew on me and became some of my favorites like Metagross,Breloom,Latios,Latias,Rayquaza,Kyogre,Absol and ESPECIALLY Gardevoir I freakin love Gardevoir

So when the remakes were announced last year I was so hyped cuz now it's my chance to fully experience Gen 3 not only with all the extras from X&Y but also some extra stuff as well and Y'know what?I had so much fun playing ORAS,I'd say it's the most fun I had with Gen 6(the remakes count as part of Gen 6 I guess),I liked all the stuff they added like the oh so sexy DexNav,the little touches and fixes here and there and overall this changed my look at Gen 3 completely.

I really liked the Delta Episode to be honest and Zinnia's character started to grew on me and overall the Delta Episode was an awesome addition in my opinion.I always welcome any attempt of story telling in the main Pokemon games ever since Gen 5 especially since some spin-offs like Mystery Dungeon are already doing it.

As for the soundtrack.....oh my god I firetrucking love the Hoenn remixes they did for the remakes especially for the Hoenn Champion theme and Wally's battle theme not to mention some of the amazing new tracks like Zinnia's theme

Posted Image

And while we're on the subject of Zinnia,I really hope she will be a part of future Pokemon games too cuz I really liked her character and I want to see more of her...it doesn't have to be the same role she has in the Delta episode but I wanna see her in more Pokemon games cuz I loved everything about Zinnia's character

The only gripe I have with ORAS and Gen 3 in general so far is that....I felt that Hoenn was the point where they put a bit more emphasis on HMs which as we saw later in Sinnoh mutated into it's own beast. It gets annoying when you had to teach your Pokemon stuff like Cut for some places where you might have to use it or waste a slot on your party for an HM slave. And while I don't see where the "too much water" complain came within the remakes since the game only makes you surf few times and I didn't meet that many trainers there and the RNG was kind with me with the random battles when I didn't use a repel,I can still see the emphasis on HMs being an issue.

But overall,I had a lot of fun with ORAS,way more fun than what I had with X&Y.Don't get me wrong X&Y is great on it's own despite the short comings but ORAS for me is the definitive Gen 6 experience especially since ORAS added even more stuff that eases the process of getting into competitive battling.

And with that, time to catch all the legendaries and finally....FINALLY after all those years I'll finish Pokemon Colosseum

Pokemon Colosseum is my favourite Nintendo game!

What team are you going to build for competitive?

Gardevoir? ( ͡° ͜ʖ ͡°) /shot

XY is meh compared to ORAS. (And people thought BW was the worst till XY happened.) HMs have been always a nuisance with the originals, so it doesn't surprise me it's back here again. At least it brings back my old HM slaves, Pelipper, Linoone, and Wailord.

About Zinnia, the motherfiretrucking encounter and battle themes tho. I love it. Who is the composer of ORAS? Way better remixes and some of the newer music in HGSS. Back to her, I feel like there was a lot to tell. They needed to tell more of her story during the game. It almost felt like they shoved the Delta episode at the last month of production. I could just be because I didn't like how they made her make team Magma/Aqua gullible and stupid. She was technically convinced them to do the Groudon/Kyogre event. So if I'm a desperate leader, I'd listen to a young random stranger for my end goals to be reality... K then. Otherwise I like her character, even if she's giving me that rape death stare at the start of battle.

I believe the end of the Delta episode was inspired by Pokemon Mystery Dungeon Red/Blue Rescure team. That part got me so nostalgic and then when the triangle appears, I got shivers. Dat pattern. Dat remix. Dat Deoxys. GameFreak nailed that perfectly.

The only major flaw of ORAS is no Battle Frontier due to casuals not able to handle it. Really the stupidest reason when really it was out of laziness.

Enough talk from me, those are good points you make from ORAS. Glad you changed your mind about gen 3.

Well she was disguised as a grunt so it's not farfetched from a grunt suggesting something like that to ArchieMaxie

Anyway I do agree that they didn't realized the Delta Episode to it's full potential but I enjoyed it nonetheless....hence why I wanna see more of Zinnia in later games especially in Gen 7 and the eventual Sinnoh remakes(y'know it's gonna happen xD)

True, I forgot about that. I'm surprised they didn't question her for all that knowledge. lolI enjoyed the episode too, and forgot to say that I'm on the same boat about seeing her in future games.

Yeah, and I'd rather have her over the shitty Locker missions......seriously I'm getting tired of the Locker missions

I can see her coming back in Gen 7 and Sinnoh remakes especially the Sinnoh remakes where they can make Arceus into a non-event Pokemon like what they did with Deoxys in case they did a post-game episode related to her

Alpha Sapphire was the most fun I've had with pokemon in many years... Probably since Diamond and Pearl really. Even though it brought back HMs after B/W/2 and X/Y pretty much got rid of them, I had so much fun exploring Hoenn again (helps that I forgot what most of it looked like from R/S/E). The music was phenomenal, and it was really the first time I got to experience it since I never played the GBA pokemon games with sound (the beeping sound when making menu selections gave me headaches).

Personally, I also found it to be more difficult than X/Y. Like, I actually lost to a random trainer battle. I can't remember the last time that's happened. I did feel as though they toned down the difficulty from the originals, but then I've also got like a decade more of experience then I had back then.

My only disappointment is that there's no Battle Frontier, and some of the requirements for the Legendaries. I'm not competitive, but I liked the renting facility in BF, and in any even I think its inclusion would have made the game much better received. As to the Legendaries, that's mostly just the fact that I need my brother to complete OR to get them, and he's not doing that.

Oh yeah, I forgot to mention that the Delta episode was the bomb. Seriously, it had the perfect level of story telling for Pokemon. If they could apply what they did in the Delta episode to a full-scale game, it would just be amazing.

In terms of difficulty yeah trainers in ORAS are a lot more competent heck I almost lost to Steven if it wasn't for my Gardevoir paralyzing the Metagross

And speaking of Steven,he's firetrucking awesome and one of my top 3 favorite champions

I have to say that ORAS is definitely up there in terms of favorite pokemon games. Even though I have about 261 hours invested into OR, and I beat the Elite Four back in November, I'm still not bored with it. The DexNav and Mirage Areas make exploring the area a lot more interesting, even in postgame. It also makes it slightly easier to catch rare pokemon and shinies, too. I never played XY, but from what I've seen ORAS is a lot more fun (and filled with a lot more megas, am I right?) and the soundtrack is much more memorable.

About Zinnia, the motherfiretrucking encounter and battle themes tho. I love it. Who is the composer of ORAS?

Shota Kageyama wrote Zinnia's stuff. Pokemon games have been a co-operative effort by a couple of people since GSC, but they tend to use the same people anyway. One of the biggest problems I have with Gen 6's music is that Go Ichinose contributed nothing when he's the mastermind behind a lot of the best stuff like Ecruteak City, Route 104, Sootopolis City, Route 216, Canalave City, and Opelucid City to name a few. I suppose he lives on vicariously through the remasters in ORAS though.

I have my issues with ORAS, though (because let's be honest what Pokemon game is perfect?). While it's still miles better than XY, there's still some problems in that they never addressed complaints in the original games in the first place, one of the biggest being the lack of diversity in the last third of the game because of how much firetrucking water routes there are, not to mention having 8 HMs again, though Fly and Flash are pretty moot anyway. But then there's shit like just giving away Lati@s after the 5th gym? And the way too buffed Exp Share about an hour into the game? Like???? Not to mention the game still has framerate issues even without 3D - in fact, I thought it was worse than in XY, but maybe that's me retroactively thinking about it too much.

I don't like the Delta Episode either, but it's more because of how horribly written Zinnia is (along with the fact that this was the biggest new feature in the game, but they spoiled all of it a week before release). I can understand having a flawed character that's well written, but Zinnia just is a shitty person. She leads you on a wild goose chase for no purpose other than because GF wants her to be a "cool" character. She could have just explained all this link cable theory shit (which is just a theory, mind you) instead of purposefully misguiding you for no reason other than because she's so dead set on one solution.

Scientific research doesn't come cheap, so when she destroys the worm hole thing just think about all of the wasted man hours and funds that went into that for a theory. But no I guess the point is that she's such a smarmy asshole she doesn't realize the wrongs she's doing when she's too busy knocking out children to take their mega ring bullshit.

And she seemed pretty firetrucking okay with this version of Hoenn getting firetrucked up by a massive drought or severe flooding. Like that's the biggest thing that gets me, she could have stepped in at any point during Archie and Max's storylines but no she basically had the mindset of "I'm just gonna sit this one out and let someone else handle it". Like for someone who's so set on saving a theoretical universe she sure was ok with this one getting firetrucked up.

The Deoxys cutscene was cool, not going to lie. Totally cheesy, but Pokemon is just wish-fulfillment after all. I also hope this means event legendaries won't be exclusive anymore because that's still bullshit.

Anyway, another problem I have is the postgame. I don't care about the battle frontier not being in (which is still a bullshit excuse, but I digress), but it's ridiculous that all they did was copy and pasted the battle maison and BW move tutors onto an island and called it a new area along with taunting people with the battle tower model and the frontier brain music. The Mirage Spots are such bullshit as well when it's a feature that relies on Streetpassing a lot of people or going on line. Good luck with getting Cresselia or finding a TM you need when you're in a low population density area with shitty online.

Idk, I do agree that ORAS was at least decent in comparison to the shitfest that was XY (like a solid 3.5 / 5 instead of a 2 / 5 like XY), but overall Gen 6 has just been so lackluster but I know it's moot to think of it like that when I know I'm going to still buy Gen 7 whenever those games come out (or the 3rd version of the Kalos games that will actually fix everything wrong with XY like Platinum did to DP).

That explains some stuff. I heard one composer who left after gen 5 games.

They should've done the same thing like RSE, except without the roaming part. Dunno why they shoved a legendary and worse, mega evolution down your throat. (Which I kind of disliked).Frame issues are probably the same as XY. I wish they'd address that. Address as in not going to easy route putting it on the New 3DS. (That would piss off a lot of fans).

I just realized there's some sort of plot hole. If Zinnia knew the day would come a meteor would fall, why the firetruck would she do that risk of having weather mayhem? The place would be in ruins, the Deoxys being all like "what did I miss? O_o" The thing is GF didn't flesh her out enough during the story and (as I said before), shoved her in the Delta episode with little reason why she's "nuts." N is a perfect example how he was fleshed out well. (People actually hate this comparison lol).

The Deoxys cutscene was cool, not going to lie. Totally cheesy, but Pokemon is just wish-fulfillment after all. I also hope this means event legendaries won't be exclusive anymore because that's still bullshit.

Cheesy was expected, it's Pokemon. About the mythical Pokemon, sadly not the case. Where in the world is the Old Sea Chart+Mew? Hoopa event being handed... Like candy... Again. *sigh*

Okay I'm not saying that you guys should like Mega evolutions but.....it's here to stay which means even remakes if previous gens from now on will incorporate Mega evolutions since now they're a core part of the battle system and the meta game

They won't suddenly go and remove Mega evolutions and screw up all the work they did on it for the past two years with XY and ORAS

As for the EXP Share....you can turn it off and I honestly never used it until Post-game with the Delta Episode

That's not it, it's just shoved too early... with a legendary. It's like a super easy mode. At least in XY it was mid game and it had an excuse. (The game that introduces mega evolution.)

Too early? You get one after the fifth page halfway through.....while in X&Y you get it as soon as the third badge

And again....you have the option not to use it

As for the EXP Share.....like I said I never used it except for post game and grinding

XY had that somewhat long part in the beginning. (I guess that's just me, though my friends also though it felt long.) Meanwhile I can bum rush till sea routes. Also who wouldn't be tempted to use them? I mostly used it as fly fodder. Speaking of which, most of its usefulness in that unique ability was after the incident. I never mentioned the exp share.

I know you can just "not use it", but it's ridiculous how casualized the games are to the point that they just hand out practically 700 BST mons after the 5th gym. You're forced to box one of your party members if your team is full so it's obvious they want you to use it. It's just an option, but it's also a forced option that is ridiculous when you're not even fighting high-level pokemon at that point. It just makes whatever semblance of difficulty the games had before a complete joke.

Like I understand they had to do something with Lati@s because of the soaring mechanic, but the least they could've done is made it a real battle. lol It's just so anticlimactic to give handouts for legendaries now.

Y'know you can soar without having any of the Lati in your party

It's not a forced option cuz literally you can box it as soon as the next town which isn't far to begin with once Steven gives you the Mega ring

Also casualized? You do know that if you're a competitive player the single player won't be an issue at all since most competitive players go online as soon as they beat the game.....and it's not like the original RBE was that hard either if anything it was even easier

Literally the moment you step into the competitive scene the single player in every Pokemon game from Gen 1 to Gen 6 will always be a breeze cuz you already know which Pokemon to catch and train rather than experimenting....besides,if you pick Torchic you're gonna win anyway since Blaziken is freakin Ubers so it's not like having any of the Lati's would matter anyway

And again I never use EXP share during single player until I reach post game where I'll need to grind

Maybe the reason I'm saying all of this is because ORAS was my first full experience with Gen 3 but I personally didn't mind the changes and the additions that Gen 6 brought to it.......then again maybe I should feel guilty for not thinking that Gen 6 is shit
