We took a short hiatus this summer and will be starting up again with a slightly fresh start.  Events have already taken place, but I'll happily provide a recap for those who would like to join back up again.  During our hiatus we have a lot of the same cast, but have also lost a couple of very special players in like.  If you're interested in joining we'd love to have you!  Please review the rules and post your character sheet.  Thanks!

 

This RP was inspired by Kingdom Hearts, Final Fantasy, and Once Upon a Time.  After Vanitas enacted a curse, all characters--villains and heroes alike--were sent to the real world where they lived new lives, without even a single memory of their past selves.

 

It all started when the heroes were trying to prevent Ultimecia from casting this curse, leading them to break into her castle . . . .

 

“Is this it?” Lightning bent over and examined a scroll tied with a red ribbon on a pedestal in Ultimecia’s tower.  The wind roared around them, blowing the curtains rapidly, the dim gray sunset casting whatever little light existed within the room.  Locke walked over to her, taking the tiny scroll from her hands and examining it.  Eventually he nodded.  “It must be.  Yen Sid told us that it would be here.”

 

“But what do we do with it?” Lightning inquired.  But before Locke could answer, the doors to the tower burst open, and in strode Ultimecia.  The tall woman’s eyes casually swept the room, meeting the two heroes’ gazes unflinchingly.

 

“Well, well,” she said, drawling, “it looks like the savior and the treasure hunter failed their friends after all.  You didn’t expect me already, did you?”

 

Both Lightning and Locke looked at each other.  The scroll remained in Locke’s fist, but there was no use hiding it: Ultimecia already knew it was there.  The sorceress sent Lightning flying into a wall with an aerial spell as she proceeded on to the poor thief.  “Now then, I will give you options.” She looked mercilessly into his eyes, her cold ones bearing down into his.  “Either you can give me the scroll without a fight, or I could kill that one first”--she smiled ruefully--”whichever calls out to you most.”

 

“Think again, lady!”

 

Locke let out a rattled breath of relief, looking over Ultimecia’s shoulder.  She whipped around to see Ventus, grinning widely, the mini scroll clenched in his fist.  The woman rose, turning to Ventus stonily.  “Be careful with that, boy.  You’re meddling in very dark magic that you don’t know how to control.”

 

“Well, lucky for you”--the boy’s grin widened, and for a moment his eyes flickered golden--”I actually do know how to use this dark magic.  And unlike these dufuses, I’m not afraid to use it.”

 

Suddenly everyone’s heart sank within the room.  Lightning slowly rose, groaning as she extended a hand toward their ally.  “Ven--”

 

The boy laughed, a merciless cold laugh that sent chills down her spine.  “Guess what, Light?  I’m not Ven.  I  never was.  It was all too easy to use you guys to get me into this place, and now, now I have what I want.”  He tore off the red ribbon and unrolled the scroll, his eyes skimming it longingly.  “Now I finally get to go home.”

 

“Not how you think!” Ultimecia shouted.  “It’s darker than you could even imagine.  It will take you to that world, yes, but you will lose everything to do it.”

 

Again the boy smiled, shaking his head.  “That’s the point: I don’t have anything to lose.”

 

With that, he unrolled the scroll and blew on it, sending its words off the page and into the room.  A cloud of smoke infiltrated the air, and for a moment all was perfectly still.

 

But only for a brief moment, before chaos struck.  The winds picked up, almost to the point that it caused the Ven-look-alike to lose his balance.  It threw Locke off his feet and knocked Lightning back into the wall, now unconscious.

 

“What’s happening?!”  Locke demanded, glaring from the boy to Ultimecia.  The sorceress clutched her chest, eyes downcast and breathing hard.

 

“Everything . . . will be stripped of us.  Our homes, our memories.  Everything that matters.”

 

Before another word could be uttered, a clap of thunder roared, and this is where you are, and where you’ve been for as long as you can remember:

 

Destiny Beach.

 

You live in a city located alongside the coast of Florida.  You’ve been here for as long as you can remember, and you cannot remember a thing beforehand.  However, you don’t even notice that you don’t remember, nor do you care.  Everything is how it’s always been, and magic is nothing more than a fantasy.  Some of you are now doctors, shopkeepers, secretaries, teachers, and some of you still can’t find your place in the world.  Everything stayed this way for a time, until the boy who could unlock the secret--and the spell--arrives on Destiny Beach.

 

For a few rules:

 

1.) No Godmodding (this includes controlling or killing another person's character)

2.) No speedhacking (don't land blows on another person's character until they respond, et cetera)

3.) Follow the RP rules and guidelines stickied to this forum

4.) No duplicate characters (meaning two people can’t be Sora, et cetera)

5.) Pairings and romance are fine, but no yaoi or yuri, please

6.) Keep everything PG-13.  I can understand some swearing and violence every now and again, but no explicit scenes, gore, sexual themes, or language that needs this @#$%! done to it. : P

7.) Please be sure that your posts contain a minimum of four lines.  I won’t bite anyone if they do it once in a while, but short posts are difficult to work with and it means more work for the other players communicating with that player.

 

Now, for the characters: you may choose up to three Final Fantasy or Kingdom Hearts characters, provided that they play a significant role in the series (like, well, don’t choose the unnamed bartender) and that they aren’t already taken.  As character roles fill I will be listing them in this main thread here, so please be sure to refer to it before creating any character sheets. There will be some special roles for certain characters that I will outline and guide through the RP (Sora, Vanitas, Lightning, Ventus, Locke, and Ultimecia, to name a few), but beyond that it’s pretty free reign.  Please fill out the character sheet below:

Hey, no worries.  It's pretty easy to do, honestly. ; )  Does this mean that I no longer have to stash away Zach and Nicole for a time? *gets excited* But seriously, don't sweat it if you're unable to post and need to drop out either for now or indefinitely.  I definitely don't want to pressure you to stay.  If you'd like, however, I can keep things slower than they had been previously, perhaps even limiting myself to posting as little as once a week if that would help you.  Just let me know how I can work with ya!

I would pick up Vanitas or Sora, especially since I myself believe I make a good Vanitas however for starters two characters for me is a lot right now (especially since I'm in like 5 other RPs right now). Another important thing is that I personally don't like taking control of characters that interact deeply with the characters that I already control. Because Sora has an important interaction with Aqua and Vanitas has an important interaction with Roxas, I don't want to take those two up. The reason is is because interactions are very important in roleplays, and if I'm interacting with myself it's not as fun as when I'm interacting with someone else... Sorry ^^'

I would say we could try to find other RPers to join but considering we're in the middle of the plot that's going to be very hard. Aww

SO Aron is gonna have to deal with cloud, oooooooooooohhhh boy, time to become a father figure...AGAIN!

Hopefully it won't be as bad as his time taking care of Tidus. : P  Cloud should be a *little* more levelheaded, maybe (placing a great emphasis on "maybe" here : P)

Awesome!  I was really hoping to have you on board.  I really like both Zach and Nicole just the way they are, and I feel no other player--myself included--could do them the justice they deserve.  Plus, you're a blast to RP with and I enjoy your company. : )  I'm really glad to hear you're enjoying the RP!

Hey, no worries; I completely understand.  You're doing the right thing by not burdening yourself with more characters.  Having too much to keep up with just takes the fun right out of it, and I agree that it's not as much fun when your characters are directly interacting with each other on a regular basis.  I'll try my best to keep Vanitas as in-character as possible while I play him.  I'm not too worried about Sora because he's, well, Sora, plus his role won't be as large as Vani.  I kind of wish we'd be able to recruit more players as well because at this point I think it'd be easy enough for new people to join in, but ah well.  We'll make it work!

So after a nearly two-month hiatus I'm pleased to see that we're rolling once more.  Thank you for your patience, everyone, and I'm eager to RP with all of you again!

 

After a bit of deliberation I decided to go ahead and pick up where we left off. It seemed that there were too many important incidents going on to to skip things entirely.  I did, however, fast-forward and conclude a few scenarios, including Auron depositing Cloud at the hospital and the scenes of the Hearts 4 Souls meeting.  I do have a few things for us to consider, however.

 

The first thing is directed toward Reyn and Sabre Lily.  Since the Gamestop scene wasn't concluded, would you two like Aeria/Xion to work at Gamestop?  I'm thinking it'll make the store a bit of an interesting place with Zack, Locke, and Xion working there, plus it'd be a great location for Vanitas to stalk her.

 

Second, I went ahead and picked up Vanitas/Maverick's role temporarily since he's major to the plot, but I'll happily give him back to Oblivion when he returns, along with anyone else who would like him.  I feel that I'm not going to do Vanitas justice myself, really, so I'd more than gladly pass him along.  Sora's also available if anyone would like him, along with Cloud.  Aerith might be hard to pass along since she's sort of linear and a--dare I say it--plot device, but I'd be willing to work with it if anyone wants her.

 

Finally, I'm uncertain what I should do with Flint/Riku, Allen/Tidus, Zach/Zidane, and Nicole/Fran.  I have some ideas, however: Allen could be busy preparing for a soccer tournament, while I temporarily pick up Riku (or someone else does, since I feel bad if Lukas' best friend just disappears).  Nicole could be searching and investigating the Ultimecia case, while Zach could have been wounded from the wolves and is recovering in the hospital.  However, I remember that Yuffie and Shard were discussing a pairing between Yuffie and Zidane, and so I wonder if you two would prefer it if someone picked up Zach temporarily?  I'll leave it up to you guys to decide, though personally I don't know if I could do Zidane justice, especially since I haven't played IX to completion.

That's probably true, and I really did consider a reboot for that reason.  In the end, however, I felt it was best if we continue where we left off, since we've come this far and I already have the majority of the main plot written out on paper.  If we started a reboot we probably would've had to recreate the sign-ups and make a brand new RP thread, both of which were kind of a turn-off for me, not to mention greatly time-consuming.  Maybe I'll make a part-two thread for after the curse is broken, so that way we can acquire some new players and it will kind of be between plots.  I haven't planned anything after the curse is broken yet.

Keeping them from killing each other or themselves.  Ha!  I like it. : P  Sad truth of the current world we live in.  Thankfully Auron's tough enough to withstand almost anything.  He's an awesome character. ; )

Hmm, I was wondering about that as well.  Were you sort of thinking to do it similarly to Once Upon A Time, with flashbacks of their original selves from their former worlds?  That would be cool to incorporate, and I think I would like it, but I wasn't sure how to implement it without making the RP too confusing and trying to keep it canon with the current and previous plot line.  Since certain events took place directly before the curse it would be hard for everyone to stay canon to the same script, y'know?  I'd love to hear your guys' thoughts on it, however, as I'm still rather open to the idea if we could figure out how to get it to work.

Hmm, good question.  It seems that I really didn't manage to give everyone something to do, especially those who weren't involved in the main conflicts at present.  I'm thinking to make a day pass in my next post, so maybe he could start at school? That, or feel free to pick up outside the diner with Riku or something.  I'll post in any characters' stead that's absent, though I'm just hoping not to keep them all the entire time.  Or at least not having to post for them regularly, because that's kind of a lot of characters to juggle.

I think flashbacks would work, since we all have some sort of amnesia from this spell, this would come in flashbacks about their backstory, as well as backstory revealing their skills and attacks, so we wouldn't be too powerful early on.

I think my main concern with the flashbacks is the story that happened prior to the present RP.  The characters (or at least most of them) were on a mission to preserve a certain scroll and attempt to undo a prophecy, yet they failed and Ultimecia managed to create the curse upon the cast.  Since the story is rather detailed I'm uncertain that it would work for everyone to RP in it, because the nature of an RP is for everyone to customize their characters and have them do/express what they will and not something already scripted, y'know?  Also, like I mentioned earlier, I'm afraid that it would be confusing to include flashbacks in with what is currently going on.  If you have any ideas on how we could proceed with flashbacks I'd be more than happy to consider. : )  I'll definitely take your vote into account, that's for sure!  If a separate RP is what everyone has in mind I'm not too sure that I currently have the time to create something extra on the side with college having recently started, but if everyone really wants this I might try (or at least do it later). : )

Vanitas is going to need to leave the freaking planet if he knows what's coming for him. Roxas is going to go all Oathkeeper and Oblivion on him.

Hm, I got a quick question. I think this was asked before but I there a Pawn Shop in the town that has items from everyone's path like Rumple's shop? I was just wondering because after everyone remembers their past Roxas might go to the Pawn Shop and ask for his Organization XIII cloak so when he goes to annihilate Vanitas off of the face of the Earth he could do it in style.

I kins of like the idea of having a separate mini-rp that acts a bit like a prequel.
