Please, Ito didn't either. 

 

And you might not have known, but Toriyama spoke to the Eidos teams as soon as Square Enix acquired them and it impressed Kitase enough for him to make it become public.

 

And in case you forgot, XIII-2 and LR were all about addressing fan feedback. And they did that to the extreme. Don't want a linear game? How about an open world game!
