July 7, 201510 yr Why does it matter how popular a game series is? Some of the greatest games I've ever played (Including my number one favorite game) aren't well known at all. It doesn't affect how good they are, though. If I had to answer, I'd say it's not easy to determine popularity. I'd probably guess Kingdom Hearts as Square is a huge name in the RPG world, and it also has Disney to draw in more fans. It's not easy to tell for sure, though.
July 7, 201510 yr both of them are fairly popular, but I think the Tales series is more popular because it is older than the kingdom hearts series.
July 7, 201510 yr I'd say KH is probably a bit more popular due to how mainstream it is in the west, even when you don't account for the Disney content pulling people in.
July 7, 201510 yr That isn't even a question. It's KH, no doubt about it. Just by looking at sales you can see that. KH is more well known to the average person as well (not that it's all that well known anymore, since the last console game for the franchise was 2006). Tales is one of those niche japanese franchises, not that that's bad.
July 7, 201510 yr I would say the KH is more popular as it has more of a western appeal with Disney and the action oriented combat (not to mention that it carries the Square-Enix logo). Bandai Namco has only in the past few years truly pushed for the Tales of series in the west. Both are excellent franchises (I prefer Tales of myself), but no doubt that KH is what more people know about.
July 7, 201510 yr I'm a fan of the Tales series (pretty obvious from my avatar), and I'm positive that KH is more popular. Tales of may be very popular in Japan, but not so much every where else. KH, on the contrary, is popular in Japan and even more popular in the west. I don't know how Tales matches up to KH in just Japan, but if we're going overall, then KH wins no doubt.
The Tales games are excellent. But Kingdom Hearts is gbamebreaking.
