I need others to get into this anime...

Posted

I need some advice. I want to get some of my friends into this one anime I like, but I don't know how I can do that. My brother got some of MY friends into an anime he likes, so what is the trick?

I've tried mentioning the anime a little bit, but I didn't want to have them think I'm weird about it.

(I also attempted getting my brother into it, but he just doesn't care enough about it to even try watching it.)

The anime he got my friends into was One Piece, whereas the anime I am trying to get them into is Digimon.

If anyone can help me with this, that would be awesome. Thanks in advance!

This is going to be really tough. One simple reason that being the way Digimon is perceived and the way One Piece is perceived. One Piece is pretty popular and is believed to be for a more "mature" audience.

The thing with Digimon is that it is forever been branded as a kid's thing because of nostalgia mainly. It is that show that was pretty good in my childhood so a lot of people undermine it. I think this is complete bull because I loved the first two seasons of Digimon and felt that they cover themes that are not only relate-able, but quite in-depth as well.

I think you should just try and explain to them that the quality of the show is very good and with the Adventure Tri coming out as well, why the heck not? xD

Just tell them to watch it as if they were kids, and theyll get surprised because it's quiet mature for a child. I watched it for the first time when i was 12 and it'll always stay in my heart.

Digimon seasons 1 and 2 were the best. That's what I keep telling my brother, that the series may seem for kids, but it has some really deep things in each of the seasons as it went on. You're right! I need to try to explain to my friends and my brother (he's older though, so that's a factor) that the show itself is better than what others have thought it out to be.

The show gets pretty serious at times (and I mean a lot of times!). This is another thing I'll try telling them.

I grew up with Digimon, I think it was the first anime I ever watched,

and I will never forget that. I haven't watched it for a while though, because I'm a little addicted to One Piece (sorry), but that doesn't mean I'm not appreciating Digimon.

So just show your friends some parts you like most( for me Digimon Adventure stays the best season) , and I'm sure they all watched Digimon when they were childs and will still like it.

The point is that, in my opinion, Digimon is great, but One Piece is just superior, it's the best anime; probably your friend thinks exactly the same.

I grew up with Digimon too...I remember there was once a time when people called Digimon a rip off of Pokemon just because they both ended in '-mon', clearly those people (who were hardcore Pokemon Fan) never gave Digimon a chance.

On the other hand if you tell them that Angemon has devil fruit power and that Omnimon has the ability to use Haki, they'd soon become avid Digimon Fans

It might be hard getting them into Digimon purely because that Digimon is quite old (but not as old a One Piece) BUT the difference here is that the One Piece anime and manga is still going while Digimon has taken a HUGE hiatus.

If you want them to get into Digimon, you should introduce Digimon Tri to them when it comes out. Once they see how awesome it is they'll want to go back and watch the other series even if they are old-ish.

Make them watch tamers! God, that show could be dark

just show it to them and see what they think, dont make it a weird thing

no promises theyll actually like it but even if they dont you can tune their tastes and show them a different show you like

That is so true about people never giving digimon a chance. And that's also true, Digimon Tri is coming soon, so if I could manage to get some of them into watching tri then yeah, they would most likely get into the series. (I think the reason why others don't want to watch Digimon, or even Pokemon for that matter, is because they may know it has a deep story, and it is pretty dark at times, but they are just embarrassed to see a bunch of monsters as main characters or something to even try to see what it is really like. Just a guess, though.)

That season was easily one of the darkest of them all. If they watch that, they would think twice about Digimon, in a good way, I hope. lol

That's right. I can show them something else if they don't want to watch digimon (all the way, that is.).

That's going to be difficult.

Digimon was handled poorly overseas after season 3, merchandise and advertising wise. It was treated like a random kids cartoon at S4-5, despite of S5 being aimed at teens. (Or so I've heard.) Games weren't advertised for a long time that somehow I didn't know they made Digimon Story for the DS twice till much later after initial release. Then there's the anime that went haitus for years till Xros Wars happened. Overseas took even longer to bring back Digimon. Very piss poor performance when it comes to merchandise, save it for the figuarts line. (Even then, it's not selling rapidly.) I mean after a month or two of seeing the toys at Target, they were on discount lol.

Whats sad is that the stupid mentality of Digimon copying Pokemon still lingers till this day. Kids will even say the same shit.

With all thay said, it's very hard to convince someone into thid franchise when it is often critized more than talked about its good points.

Also I tried to convince my best friend back in high school. It didn't work out for the anime or games, while for Megaman Starforce, it worked and he brought them after seeing me play them. He did used to watch Digimon too. lol that's how bad the PR is, and how hvaing a very long haitus does.

PS: I'm a Digimon fan and want it to be known again here, but Xros Wars didn't help with its different concept. (And Fusion? Eewww...)
