What Needs To Be Changed/Fixed For KH3

Posted

Hello members of KH13. How are y'all doing today? So, I thought I'd share my thoughts and make a thread about what should be changed, expected, or fixed for KH3 in terms of the gameplay and its gameplay mechanics. So let's get started, shall we?

Game Balance:

As many of you know, the more recent Kingdom Hearts game has had a little trouble with balancing things out. Such as certain boss fights and as well as your attack commands. As you all know, Birth by Sleep and Dream Drop Distance are two REALLY good examples of an unbalanced game. Birth by Sleep has the worst designed boss battles out of all the KH games due to the well known fact that there are boss fights that just has you using once, single, command just to beat said boss (I'm looking at you Vanitas, Vanitas remnant, Mysterious Figure, No Heart, Terranort) and I just really hope that KH3 fixes this issue since it will bring back the "Attack" "Magic" Items" and "Summon" command menu from KH1/KH2. If anything, they should bring back the ability to allow us to do unique comboes on bosses like in KH2/KH2FM. And DDD also has this problem since the "balloon" command spell is ridiculously overpowered, unbalanced, and it is mostly used in almost all boss fights in the game. Which is why i hope they fixe this problem and actually make bosses that are not only an actual challenge, but also where it is fun to fight them over and over again. Because KH/KHFM and KH2/KH2FM have really great boss battles that aren't overly repetitive or just don't take away the fun of fighting them again and again.

Staggering:

This is another issue I mainly have with the handheld KH games. There are bosses in the games that just don't stagger at all and can easily break out of your attack commands and punish you from trying to do a full combo on them. Now, KH games like KH1 and KH2 makes sense since there are enemies/bosses that are too large to stagger (Storm Rider, Maleficent Dragon, ect). But this is mainly a probllem with all of the handheld KH games. Bosses in the handheld games either randomly break out in the middle of your combo and just makes it hard to learn the fights. Vanitas is a good example of this because he ALWAYS breaks out of your combo to the point where you either have to just hit him twice or use a deck full of "ignite" magic spells. Yeah, that's how horribly designed his fights are. Even his lingering remnent fight is bad because of that reason. So since KH1 and KH2 are the only console KH games that don't have this problem than I really hope we have the same case with KH3 since it will be a console KH title. Though I am a bit worried about that since the Osaka team is developing KH3 and they do not make very well-designed boss fights as they have shown in BBS and DDD.

Dodging:

Now I don't really know if a lot of people have a problem with this but I hope they fix the dodging mechanic in KH3. Because let's all be honest here, Birth by Sleep had the most broken dodge mechanic ever made in a KH game. Mainly for Aqua and Ventus. Their dodges were just completely broken to the point where you completely stay invincible as long as you keep mashing the dodge roll move. It just had a lot of invincibility frames. And Terra's dodge move just didn't have any invicibility frames at all since you can still get his from enemi=y attacks while you're dodging with Terra. What's I'm trying to say it, please make the dodge roll mechanic balanced in KH3. They should try to make it more like KH2FM's dodge roll mechanic where it has some invincibility frames but it doesn't always help you dodge enemy attacks with its frames.Because BBS's dodge was totally broken and ruined th whole point of dodging.

Live Environments:

*Sigh* It really seems as though that with each new KH game that comes out, the worlds are even more empty than they already were before. I mean seriously, I hope that KH3 will have a lot of people to make the worlds feel more alive because the Osaka team has been getting horrible with doing that with BBS and DDD. heck, I'd say all the handheld KH games have this issue. ANd since KH3 is following KH1/KH2's formula I really hope there's more life in the worlds like KH1 and KH2 have done. Especially KH2.

Now I'm not trying to trash the handheld KH games or anything. Oh n no no no no far from it. I'm just trying to point out the mistakes that the handheld KH games have made and hopethat KH3 improves on/fixes those mistakes. Especially since the Osaka team is developing this game because as I said before, they really don't do a very good job with balancing out the KH games like the Kingdom Hearts team does with KH/KHFM and KH2/KH2FM. But what do you all think my fellow KH fans?

I agree. But I believe Osaka did get some ideas and tips from the original KH team. And I believe they did learn a few things from 2.5, which had KH2.

I also believe that because of 2.5, they saw their mistakes and are taking very good care of KH3.

As for worlds....well, it's PS4. They could fit a million people.

Because of 2.5? Well the Osaka team did a decent job with KH 1.5 and 2.5 because they both got glitches in them. KH 2.5 has it worse though because it has a lot more glitches in KH2FM HD and the fact that there are unnecessary load times with the drive forms, plus the fact that some of the reaction commands don't work in that version.

Those are the only glitches I heard of. Loading, Forms, Reaction Command.KH3 has two of those taken out, with Drive Forms still being a possibility. But seriously, with 1.5 and 2.5, they got to see the original KH formula with KH1FM and 2FM. And I did hear that the FFXV team[Original KH team FTW]shared some stuff with Osaka. I think Nomura said that. Also, is it me or does KH3's flowmotion look better than DDD's?

Well there are other glitches in KH 2.5 such as the game freezing (which pretty much only happens if you do something very specific with the Xemnas fight in TWTNW) and the game actually taking you back to the select screen where you choose what KH game you play. But it's very rare so it won't happen often.

Yeah, Drive Forms have the possibility of being returned in KH3

And from what I've heard, a few members of the Kingdom Hearts team are helping develope KH3. But that's just what I've heard. Not exactly sure if it's true or not (unless someone wants to prove to me that they are). As for Flowmotion, yeah it looks tons better than the flowmotion in DDD. i wish that they stuck to the original version of the flowmotion that was shown back in the first trailer of KH: DDD.

Game Balance

Kinda agree, kinda disagree. BBS had well designed normal bosses, but clunky gameplay and truly awful secret bosses. Definitely a major issue with making most abilities useless and basic combos might as well not exist (and don't even bother with combo plus)

Staggering

wholeheartedly agree. staggering is a huge problem in BBS and DDD, and I'm worried that's how it looks in KH3 as well. Getting combos plus seems like a self imposed hard mode, rather than an upgrade

Dodging

Really there's no issue with dodges having lots of invincibility frames. It's just that the battles devolved into dodge spamming rather than having actual patterns to learn and predict, or something

Live Environments

Never mind that those were handheld games, where it's amazing they even got the graphics they did, so rendering a bunch of NPCs is impractical, but it takes a tonne of work to make NPC models in the KH universe because Disney characters all look distinct. I've said it before, but KH1 boasts 100 unique Disney characters. That's a lot. Later games had even more. Especially now that it's HD, it'll be harder than ever to fill the worlds with NPCs

The flowmotion looks a lot more smooth and controlled, and I am digging that blue aura.As for most of the original KH team workin on KH3, I don't know what goes on over there. I'm just going off what I've heard. As for staggering, it looks like regular KH1-2 staggering. We don't know much though.

I only have one thing that I want to see changed in kingdom hearts 3, which is to make dodge roll a default move like Sora's default jump ability in all the portable kingdom hearts games.  I'm just getting tired of trying to unlock an ability that could be easily be a default move.

I hope that the colors will be better looking. Cause of the d23 trailer they are much better.

It seems that they had a hard time moving to ue4.

it really doesn't

it looks exactly like KHDDD staggering, and that worries me deeply

I'm pretty sure that Kingdom Hearts III will have the most polished gameplay to date, and I'm sure that the Osaka team can pull this off!  They've been working on the Kingdom Hearts series for years now, so obviously, they've built up experience, so with said experience, I'm sure they've improved on the gameplay aspects of the game!  And hey, since KHIII will be the end of the Xehanort Saga, I'm pretty sure Nomura wants the gameplay to be as perfect as possible, or at least very near to perfection!  I want challenging bosses, and I certainly want more activity in the worlds!  If we're talking about worlds looking more alive, KH2's Twilight Town is probably the best example of a well built world.  Everywhere you went, you'd always see an NPC walking around!  But yeah, I'll love Kingdom Hearts III, no matter what, but I'm sure that the gameplay mechanics will most surely improve! :3

The only thing I want to change in KH3 is the graphics. Seeing Sora in unreal engine looks very odd.

That's not going to change. Ever.

Me personally, fix the camera. If you have an improved A.I. for Kingdom Hearts 3 then you can have an improved camera system!

I'm surprised no one here mentioned the platforming. xD

The one thing I agree with you the most is the live environment. A lot of the worlds in the entire series just feel empty due to the lack of NPC's. It's a no brainer that some of the worlds are empty for obvious reasons, such as The Keyblade Graveyard and The End of the World. But there are some worlds that are empty and shouldn't be, such as La Cite des Cloches, Agrabah, Olympus Colosseum ("Listen to those cheers man." Yeah from the invisible crowd) and The Land of Dragons.

SomeCallMeJohnny makes a really great speech to support this in this video. Skip to 15:35 and listen till the end:
