September 10, 201510 yr The thing about the eagles and the question of why the Fellowship doesn't use them is because it's actually that Sauron probably DOES expect, and has probably made plans for. The one thing he's super keen on is any kind of direct assault, airborne or otherwise, on Mordor, and what's more, railroading the Ring into Mordor on something that he can't possibly miss isn't in the best interests of the plan to keep it's whereabouts secret. The solution to keep the Fellowship and it's mission as low key as possible is still probably not the worst idea, no matter how handy the eagles often prove to be.
September 11, 201510 yr Wow, what a very interesting read this was! I had always wondered about the Eagles, and I remember that someone had told me that the reason they didn't help carry the Fellowship to Mordor was because they couldn't go near areas that were populated with men, elves, etc, because they might be fired upon with arrows and such. But now that I read this, now I truly understand the reason behind it all! What an awesome read!
So I found this
