I get how Ven holds his Keyblade is cool, but it doesn't make sense to me. Before you complain, here's why I don't understand:

The way he holds it is generally a defensive position. You can't get much leverage fighting, and would have to be closer than usual to your target. And since he never changes it from the defensive position...

It would be much more difficult for him to fight, so I don't understand why he does it.

maybe he likes fighting like that everyone holds there weapon differently

he learned to use it that way i think

He's wielding it dagger-style. Normally, daggers are held in a reverse grip. It's just his own personal style.

I have two ideas one: if you swing your strait forward when holding a weapon like that you get a nice shot to the hip Two: It makes Ven about 20 times cooler

Ven is fighting as if he's holding a dagger so that makes him attack more faster

He holds it like that in order to attack faster.

I've been experimenting with different Kingdom Hearts and Final Fantasy fighting styles with a wooden sword.

Ventus' style wouldn't allow for very efective single strikes, however, the way you hold it would allow for much more powerful second strikes (Try it out for yourself, the momentum from your second swing will be much faster than if you hold the weapon straight)

Second, most of the disadvantage of holding a weapon backwards comes from a lack of wrist strength, which wouldn't be a problem if Ventus always used that style.

For those of you who are curious, Soras style is very defensive, it doesn't allow for fast or powerful swings, but it's versatile for defense.

Riku is pretty much the opposite, sacrificing defensive posture for faster, more powerful attacks.

I've been playing around with Ventus' fighting style on my Tennis racket (can actually hit tennis balls decently with Reverse grip) and hatok's right, the second strike does gain power. Think of it as punching with a weapon in your hand for the first strike, then (for a righty) pull back from the left for a more powerful hit. I also think running with Keyblade backwards is aerodynamicly better than running with it rightways.

I don't know where they were inspired to make him Reverse Weild, but it sure does make him the coolest character in the series.

To sum it up:

Ventus Fighting Style: Speedy Weaker Attacks, with Powerful Magic Support.

Okay ^^ Thank you guys. My dad got me curious, 'cause I made him watch trailers with me, and he commented on Ven's grip.
