Kingdom Hearts Re:Chain of Memories Beta Screenshots & Assets

Posted

As you know, Square likes to always change the Kingdom Hearts games as development continues to progress (Kingdom Hearts 3D, Kingdom Hearts Birth by Sleep, etc.) I was looking around on a YouTuber's channel, which you may know him as Keytotruth, the guy who provided the English patch of Kingdom Hearts Birth by Sleep: Final Mix. Back in March of this year, he created a video showing off some interesting beta screenshots/assets of Kingdom Hearts Re:Chain of Memories. He compiled all the screenshots onto a dropbox, where you can see all the screenshots/assets of Kingdom Hearts Re:Chain of Memories from the beta build.

They may seem interesting to you or very boring, though I find it cool that people still find these. Look at how horrid Kingdom Hearts Re:Chain of Memories looked like back then.

I am certainly quite happy that the cards design' was changed.

You can view the dropbox here.

Hmm, well this is very interesting!  The card designs definitely looked quite different and strange compared to the ones that appear in the finished product, and damn, the battle screen was way too cluttered!  I'm glad the finished product included a cleaner battle screen! :3

I always find it interesting to see how the Kingdom Hearts games originally looked compared to their finished products!

Ulgh, yeah, pretty crowded. Really makes you appreciate how Re:CoM turned out. Interestingly the cards look like they were made to look a bit closer to the Gameboy sprites but their final look is much better. And the interface looks like a nightmare, a pretty huge step away from what CoM and Re:CoM had. From what I can guess it looks like the history of the previous cards used or something...I don't know. Point is it looks weird and I'm glad they changed it.

And yeah, it is pretty fun seeing how a lot of these games were originally going to be like before what we get when they come out. I remember back when all those old Birth by Sleep screenshots came out, it was going to be SOOOO much different from what the final product came out. Much more reused assets, slight differences in plot elements (that sinister look from Terra when he's with Maleficent...), solid models (damn PSP downscaling... xP), and of course the biggest loss of all, VEN'S ORIGINAL KEYBLADE DESIGN!! PLEASE COME BACK BABY, I DON'T CARE WHAT THEY SAY! YOU'RE DIFFERENT AND SPECIAL AND DESERVE TO EXIST IN A CANON MANNER!!! TTOTT""

Ahem, sorry about that...

Anyway, It's fun to see early things like this. At some point it would be nice to see what early beta and alpha footage of KH1, KH2, Days, Coded/Re:Coded, and X gameplay looked like too. It's fun to see things progress from first steps to moon leaps like we've seen from Birth by Sleep, Dream Drop Distance, and currently with KH3. <3

Wow, the large bodies really look out of place on Destiny Islands. Glad they gone with what they had on the final product.

Come to think about it, Chain of Memories had three remasters - Original GBA Version, PS2 Remake, PS3 Remaster!
