Am I wrong for this? Am I exaggerating?

Posted

This may sound weird and maybe even childish but I find myself in the minority of a big opinion and that's fine. I know there are some things that not everyone will agree with me on and vise versa. But there's been something I've been desiring for a long time but I know most of the gaming community doesn't agree. It's weird too, I usually don't get salty when someone disagrees with me or I disagree with a large crowd of people but this one thing drives me crazy.

Long story short I like Playstation Allstars Battle Royale and Super Smash Bros but I feel like it's unfair that Allstars gets the shaft simply because Smash is a thing. Can't we have both? You can call it a rip off all you want, I'll enjoy the games I want as you would do the same. Who cares if I like a game that many call a ripoff?

Who cares if I want a sequel to it?

Who cares if I want both Smash and Allstars to succeed?

Every time I look at a big gaming convention like E3, Playstation Experience or something like that I always think "There's hope, maybe this time. It's all I'm asking for." Like a child waiting for Christmas day all. It gets to the point to where I truly believe that it's going to happen all for my hopes to be crushed again. And for everyone to bad mouth a game that most of them never really gave a chance. While I don't do this now because I know it's not the right thing to do, but in 2013-2014 I even started to hate the Nintendo fanbase and blame them for the games failure for the constant ripoff label even though I myself am a Nintendo fan.

When Cloud was announced for Smash I was jumping out of my chair in excitement. I was happy and couldn't wait to play as him or see what's in store next. But recently I thought "Why did Square let Cloud in Smash but not Allstars?" That's not fair considering that he's one of the biggest faces of the PS1. Then there's Activision who told Sony they needed to pay $18,000,000 to let Crash in the game but they basically get on their hands and knees to make Donkey Kong and Bowser Skylanders.

Am I a weirdo or a big man child for wanting a game like this so bad? Am I the only one that thinks I shouldn't get laughed at for desiring a sequel? I know it's the internet and not everyone's going to agree with your opinion and even make fun of you for it, hell I've been on YouTube sense 2008, but still most of them have never given the game a real chance. I have never once screamed or shouted at a Nintendo fan for any of that. In fact I try to be as polite as possible on the internet.

So tell me, am I wrong to feel this way? Am I a big weirdo or man child because of it? Am I exaggerating?

I loved psasbr as well. The story mode was pretty lame, but the multiplayer was very fun. I still play it from time to time. I hope they make a sequel someday.

It's kind of like the way I like Pokemon AND Digimon even though some or most people think Digimon is sort of a ripoff of Pokemon. The opinions are different, but the franchises will stay the way they are. Hopefully.

You can easily like PSABR, people should not hold that against you. I never even played PSASBR before, so I can't say I have an actual opinion about the game, but if it's good, it's good, right? I have played Super Smash Bros. before though.

Rock on!

its ok if you like a thing. other people just may not like that same thing.

PSASBR probably got flack because it was seen as direct competition to Smash Bros. and of course the Smash fanbase wasn't digging that I'm sure. Coupled with the fact that from what I heard, the game was pretty meh. It had potential but because Sony weren't able to get their more iconic characters, the game came off a bit shallow. When most people think of Playstation, they don't think of Dante from DMC, Raiden or Big Daddy. Then there was Fat Princess (which is a bit of a stretch imo), Good Cole and Evil Cole (felt pretty lazy) and the DLC characters like Isaac from Dead Space and Zeus from God of War (which felt pretty random).

overall it was really wasted potential. When you're making a mascot fighting game you really need to bring the big guns or else you're just gonna fall flat. Sony has some good mascots but they just weren't able to put them into the game for one reason or another.

in short: don't hold your breath for a sequel. its ok to hope one will be made, but don't go getting your hopes up at every gaming event that Sony attends. low expectations, man.

PSASR is a rip off of SSB

Digimon is a ripoff of Pokemon

Family Guy is a rip off of The Simpsons

The Simpsons is a rip off of The Flitstones

The Flintstones is a rip off of the Honeymooners

Everyone has ripped off someone to some extant, that no reason the spew bile or dismiss the product out of hand.

Every story has already been told, its the details that matter, not the general premise.

The thing with PSABR is that it's just not very good. Even if it was more original and less Smash Bros-y, it would get flack regardless.

That being said, I have no problem with it existing. I'm a big Sony fan and the fact that there is an interest in seeing Sly, Cole McGrath, Big Daddy, Heihachi Mishimia, etc. beat the crap out of each other is at least the saving grace behind the game.

If Sony were to revisit the concept, tweak it, and improve upon what it did get right with PSABR, it wouldn't matter how similar it is Smash. If it's a good game, then it's a good game.

The issue is that they tried to make a Smash clone, but failed to actually add in what made Smash so fun. I mean, yeah, if it was more similar it might receive more flak for it, but it could be a lot more fun. It just took too long and felt tedious. I will say I had a little bit of enjoyment from it, but that was between absolutely broken characters and frustrating battle mechanics. If Sony were to completely revamp the combat and add in more memorable and iconic characters, then I'd be all for it. If it was just a repeat of the first? Not so much...

There were hints of originality in the formula, and it could be fun if it was implemented better. And of course, all the usual trappings of a sequel, such as roster inclusions, moveset creation, and other basic functions. Like I said before, what matter it that it's a good game, not just Smash with Sony instead of Nintendo.

There definitely were, although they definitely needed a lot of work. I think that the whole focus on the specials being necessary for KOs needs to be tossed, since it was just frustrating to me. I'd even take a direct rip of Smash's whole "Knock the opponent off the stage" thing over the special KOs. There needs to be more character balancing, too. Sly's whole invisibility gimmick felt way too overpowered. It shows that they tried balancing it, but it didn't work too well in my experience. Of course, as you said, any sort of gameplay style that's just fun is fine by me. I'd love a good Sony crossover game.
