Yo guys! I haven't made a theory topic in FOREVER so I thought its high time I started a new one. Now, be warned. This thread is for ppl who have ALREADY seen The Force Awakens as this thread will contain spoilers. So for those who have yet to see it-shew! xP Now, here's my theory...........Rey is Luke's daughter. Now when you stop to think about this, it actually becomes quite obvious. Lets start from Rey's beninngs. In the movie, we are never shown what her parents look like. All we see of them is a giant carrier craft flying away from Jakku, leaving Rey alone as a very young child. We are never told why her parents left her, only that they went away. Skip way ahead in the movie to when Rey and company visit the pub on Takodana. Rey finds Luke's old lightsaber, hidden away. As soon as she touches it, she immediately sees visions of the her past and the future. Later, the barkeeper, Maz Kanata tells her that the lightsaber and the Force call to her. I believe its not for nothing that Rey had that strange encounter with Luke's weapon. It seemed to have awakened Rey's ability to use the Force, as seen later in the movie. If Rey really is Luke's daughter, this would make sense. The Force would be reacting to the Skywalker bloodline through direct contact from the lightsaber. Later in the film, we see Rey display some impressive mind controlling skills as soon as she opens her own mind to the power of the Force. This certainly is very impressive since she only just discovered what the Force even is and the fact that she is quite "old" to be learning the ways of the Force. Sound familiar? Also, it should be noted that Rey and Kylo Ren appear to be very close in age. At the very least, 5 years apart. Why would that be significant? Lets think about this; Luke, Solo and Leia are all around the same age or near it. If they had children close together, then their kids would also be similar in age. Lastly, remember the second teaser trailer for the film? This was never used in the finished movie, but in that trailer, you hear a voice over of Luke's voice. He's talking to someone. He says this:" The Force is strong in my family. My father has it, I have it, my sister has it. You have that power too." Why that was even put into the trailer and not the finished movie, I don't know. But this, out of all the others, is in my opinion, the most obvious clue. Just who is Luke talking to? There is no one else in the movie that Luke might be talking to about this. Unless it was Kylo Ren himself, since he went to train with Luke before turned to the Darkside, and Kylo is Luke's nephew. But Kylo and Rey are the only two possible ppl that Luke could be talking to. I would like to believe it is Rey. We have yet to see if this will be addressed, either in deleted scenes or in the next movie. So, let the speculations continue, and may the Force be with you!

I think she is too, there are a lot more things in the movie:

  • Han pauses for a moment after he learns her name and then later offers her a job
  • She was probably being trained by Luke before Kylo Ren killed everyone in his academy
  • Kylo spared her and killed one of his own knights, most likely because they're related
  • Leia and Rey hug the "first" time they meet

There are a few more points but I cannot remember them all.

I agree. Most of the evidence points to Rey being Luke's daughter. (Makes you wonder who's the mom? *cough*marajade*cough*)

There are some inconsistencies, but can be resolved if you go with the theory that Luke used the force to suppress Rey's memory. She had thought Luke was a legend, she had no memory of Kylo Ren, and She didn't start using the force after she touched the saber. I bet Luke Suppressed her memory so she could hide better, and bits of it were reawakened by touching the saber.

I missed that. Where did you see that?

I thought that was severely hinted at when she touched his Lightsaber and Yellow Yoda came talking to her about the fact her family wont come to her but she'll find her family and urging her to find Luke. Her ability to use the force and what not made it more clear (of course she can be another jedi but still).

My whole family thinks she's his daughter, too. The whole series focuses on the Skywalker family, after all. The scene with her finding Luke's lightsaber is what stands out the most to me as evidence for the theory.

It's in the scene where she touches the lightsaber, I can't remember what was before or after it but it was definitely when it was raining, Kylo kills someone (presumably about to kill Rey) and you see him standing with his group.

okay. I'll have to pay closer attention to that scene next time around.
