keep in mind that this is my first review on a tales of game so I might mess up a little.

story: the storyline is really interesting, but not quite as interested as Tales of the Abyss' story. I was happy that the story for this game isn't simple. I was also happy that the game is a sequel to Tales of Symphonia 1 and 2. The lore in the game is kinda deep in my opinion.

gameplay: the gameplay is okay, but there are a lot of flaws in it. Here are a few flaws I found in the battle system in the game:

1. if two enemies are between you and are constantly attacking you, it's almost impossible to attack and to get out

2. Some of the animations for Cress' skills and kinda slow

3. Claus' summons and Arche's magic abilities literally stop you where you are for a few seconds; sometimes even longer. It can be annoying sometimes

4. Cress' normal attacks are sorta too slow, which makes Cress open to an attack

5. Everytime Cress misses his normal attack or skill, it sometimes takes a few seconds to be able to move him again.

6. the random enemy counter is annoying. You sometimes have to fight every 10-15 second depending on where you are.

7. The holy bottle isn't that useful in the game. It would have been VERY useful if the item prevented you from encountering enemies at all, instead of a lesser chance.

8. The AI aren't that smart. For the final battle in the game, I had to manually make Mint constantly heal the party's HP because she wasn't doing it herself.

9. You can't manually block attacks, so there is a chance that you're doing to get hit without Cress using his shield.

What I DID like about the gameplay is that:

1. it is free

2. the two sick looking skills that cress gets near the end of the game. It made the gameplay SO much better

Music: it has an okay soundtrack and it is better then tales of symphonia's soundtrack. Some of the themes in the game are really emotional and that's one of the things I like about this game.

soundeffects: they are fine. didn't really pay attention to it much.

conclusion: The game isn't that bad, but it isn't THAT good either, but that's what you can expect from the first game of the series. Everything else in the game is okay basically, maybe except for the story. The story is great in my opinion.

It's free? How?

Is this the GBA version? I hear that version of the game was butchered.

I mean like battle system wise.

yes, it is.

I was having fun with Tales of Phantasia, the story was interesting, the world was fun to explore and the battle system was a bit weird but I like it.The game was fun until I reach the Moria Gallery, then the game showed me its true color,it was hell. The game's major problem is the random enemies encounter because it takes way too much time to kill even the smallest enemies mixed with the dungeons and the confusing puzzles. The game keeps interrupting you while you're trying to figure out how to beat the dungeon.I was able to beat the Moria Gallery, but I stopped at the dungeon after it.

I feel that you gave a fair opinion and a review is subjective, you gave enough info to give a fair review, I would say it would be a bad review if you gave a sentence deciding the games worth.

I actually like that the game it has a very old fashion for it and i love the opening, so...authentic to the anime back in the 90s. I feel like Tales should go back into a older style but that isn't medieval or fantasy.

I would want a Tales game in the victorian or renaissance, it would either go very dark or festive in tone.
