We are all dying to know what Super Smash Bros creator Masahiro Sakurai is working on next. Sadly we are no closer to finding out, but he has confirmed in the latest edition of Weekly Famitsu that he has already started work on his next project. The news was part of a feature where Japanese creators share their 2016 ambitions and plans. Here’s what Sakurai had to say.

OMG lol I didn't notice I spelled "creator" wrong until you pointed this out lol. Your post made me burst some tears because of how funny the title looks. But I'll change it immediately.

Hmm, well this is interesting!  I wonder what project could he be planning!? I seriously doubt it'll be another Smash since we're still right off the heels of the most recent Smash, so that's out of the equation.  Hmm, well, I hope that whatever he's got planned, it'll be something awesome!  Although, this is Sakurai we're talking about, so anything he shall make shall be awesome!

We've only had one Kid Icarus game in the past 20 years or so. I don't see what would be so bad about another. I haven't played much of Uprising (Left-handed control options are crap, although the New 3DS makes it bearable), but I don't get why a sequel would be so bad. Besides, some people are suggesting that he teased a sequel in Smash.

 

I don't know what else you'd expect from him anyway. Smash and Kid Icarus are his two big projects now, since he left HAL and the Kirby team a long time ago. It's either a new Kid Icarus game, or maybe another reboot of an old series. Whatever it is, it's by Sakurai, so I'm sure it's going to be fantastic.

I'm sure that some people could find ways to stress him out over a Kirby game. After all, these are Sakurai "fans" we're talking about...

 

I would love to see that, though, since I love the Kirby series and look up to Sakurai, being someone who wants to become a developer and all.
