Just because a video game's a video game...

doesn't mean that I have to think less about the video game lore. There are some games that depend on gameplay more like mario and games that depend on story more like Life is Strange and others that depend on both story and gameplay like most rpgs and some action adventure games.

Hmm, I don't understand what you mean. Are you implying that someone stated video game lore is unimportant and that it's just a video game?

Or are you referring to the common notion that gameplay is all that matters?

If it's the latter, I'd have to agree. While I believe a balance of gameplay and story is required, a video game

must have a story for me to enjoy it. There are only a few exceptions to this rule (like Mario).

I'm referring to the first question you asked :)

I mostly care about the story more than the gameplay. If the story is good then I will keep playing all day and all night, and don't care if the gameplay is hard or difficult or bad.

Well, in my opinion, a story is what draws me into a video game, and if the game has a good story, you can be sure I'll play through it!  And even if there are some games I play that don't have story, but have good gameplay, I play through them, ya know?  It's all a balance to be had.

For me, that balance is good story and good gameplay! :3

Like you said, it really depends on the game. Some games, despite having an extremely good story have little to no lore, mainly because it's not necessary. Examples if these are the Ace Attorney and Professor Layton series. The only "lore" in those games are the gameplay: puzzles in PL and defence attorney in AA.

Then you got games like Super Smash Bros and racing games, which are only gameplay and need no lore at all.

Then there are those that are heavy on lore, like Kingdom Hearts. Those games need the lore to continue the story.

I personally don't care about what a game has more of, gameplay or story. All that matters to me is that they are well executed. A game with good story and bad gameplay is unplayable and a game with bad story and good gameplay could be just as bad if cutscenes are impossible to skip.
