Zelda Producer Eiji Aonuma is Unsure About Having Link Speak in Future Games

Featured Replies

It wouldn't change anything to me if Link had dialog or not in the next Zelda game

After playing as Link for so many years with no dialogue, I don't know that I would be okay with it. When I think of it, my mind goes back to the atrocity of Super Mario Sunshine.

Bad idea, I don't want link to end up like samus in other M

Why would you have him not speak? It probably would be great to hear Link talk.

Once you give a character dialogue, you give them a definitive personality, which runs the risk of making them less relatable to the player they are supposed to represent. "Link" was named that because he is supposed to be the think that connects the player to the game, personally, I would rather have him remain silent, however, I am open to having literally every other character be fully voiced. As for it being "great" to hear Link talk, three words.

Hearing his battle cries today though makes him sound cool. Maybe the voice actor for him currently could be used for future titles.

Well, to the best of my knowledge, Legolas here's always been a mute, and he got a bad reputation on those CD-i games because apparently his voice was hell awful! So if Nerftendo's gonna make Legolas speak, they should hire some guy with the voice of an angel, or maybe some guy with a scruffy voice!  I dunno, it all depends on what director Japanese-san thinks about how he wants the voice to be!

But yeah, I dunno how I feel about having Legolas speak.  I've only played two Zelda games, and he's always been a mute, but hey, maybe he'd sound cool if someone gives him the right voice! :P
