(Note: Trust me the title will make sense once you read everything )
Y'know.............I firetrucking Love Shovel Knight,I really do,not only because it's been one of the best platforming experiences I've ever played(yes it took me a while to realize that a year and a half ago but still)but it's for one reason or another managed to faithfully fill that Megaman thirst I had for years when Mighty No.9 failed and kept on failing to deliver
Yes this is half-rant about the Mighty No.9 delay if you haven't guessed yet but I'm bringing Shovel Knight as a comparison because...........well let's put things into perspective shall we:
Shovel Knight's kickstarter was announced in March 17th 2013,not far from the time that Mighty No.9 kickstarter would launch which was August of 2013 although the game was announced months prior during the Penny Arcade Expo
Sure Shovel Knight did face some hurdles and was delayed once or twice maybe but the game came out the next year on June 26th 2014 for PC,Wii U and 3DS after meeting it's pre-launch goals and all to a HUGE critical acclaim that it rightfully deserved, not only that but as the months went on Yacht Club games managed to get the proper extra funding to not only update the game and release it on even more consoles, but also RELEASE DLC.....FREE DLC at that in the form of Plague Knight's campaign:Plague of Shadows and even more content to come. And best of all,for the most part,Yacht Club games were for the most part transparent and upfront with their backers and fans and were telling us things as they get the proper means to get them out which is another reason why people kept on supporting Shovel Knight. And while sure the gameplay was influenced by a plethora of platformers, the Megaman influence in it was strong enough that it basically was my Megaman fill for all of 2014 and 2015.
Mighty No.9 on the other hand was the complete opposite, what started as a last ray of hope for Megaman fans 3 years ago has been twisted into one of the most shady kickstarter campaigns I have ever seen so far.Vagueness about most of the goals and added features in the game, the community management was a firetrucking disaster that I just can't bring myself to mention,a not-that-impressive demo build that, while sure there is room for improvement, most likely reflect what might be getting(if we got the firetrucking thing that is) in the final product, constant delays followed by empty promises. And finally, worst of all,the three nails in the coffin for me that basically burned any faith I had in comcept.
The cartoon TV show and live-action movie they announced BEFORE THE firetruckING GAME IS EVEN RELEASED as if they're so sure that this is gonna be a guaranteed hit based on the faith they've already exploited and the atrocious, and I do mean atrocious,RED-ASH KICKSTARTER CAMPAIGN.That...............was a firetrucking disaster. They haven't finished one game to gain any sort of positive reputation and faith, yet they ask for the funding of not only the first few chapters of the game(with, again, complete vagueness on the goals and the consoles the game is gonna come out for)but also to fund an anime adaptation for the game............no,firetruck you.I'm done with you Keiji Inafune and I had enough of your stupid exploitative antics you hypocrite westaboo who bitched about the industry's mistakes only to commit every single one of said mistakes
We're now in 2016,as of now the Plague of Shadows DLC and the Shovel Knight amiibo have been released and more content in the form of campaigns for King Knight and Specter Knight is coming and Shovel Knight is still enjoying the same level of success it had two years ago up until today and it earned it rightfully
Mighty No.9 has yet to come out,and all that came out of it was a very unimpressive demo-build,delays for stuff that other fellow indie devs added later after their games were released instead of holding the backers' investment hostage for stupid reasons(Since firetrucking when was Online multiplayer a huge draw for Megaman?)
Yes I understand that sometimes delays happen to make the game better but in this case it's not and even then, you can only delay the game so much before people start suspecting the development nature of the game cuz not every delay means a guaranteed good product..............Sigh I went on for two long now did I?
This rant was long overdue ever since the Red-Ash debacle and I had to get it out one way or another
Cuz in my eye,Shovel Knight is the Megaman that Mighty No.9 can never become
