How much of KH3 will be completed by the end of this year?

Posted

Obviously this all prediction and speculation. None of this is confirmed ofc but I know what some people are like :D

So KH3 has been in THE WORKS since BBS was finished, IN THE WORKS. Fun fact-Nomura only finished writing the story towards the end of 2013. So KH3 is likely to have been in DEVELOPMENT since the end of 2012/beginning of 2013-Couldn't have been any later since we got that trailer at E3 2013.

So in 2013 let's say they got around 20% of the game done. THEN here comes 2014 aka dry season and as most of us know:

The engine switch from Luminous to Unreal Engine 4.

Back at E3 I believe Nomura said the reason for the drought of 2014 was basically this. Which is fair enough, since both engines are quite different.

"Due to having switched to Unreal Engine 4 for various reasons, we’re having trouble on some parts as far as rendering goes, but with help from the folks at Epic Games, progress is going safely," Nomura said in the full interview, also via Siliconera.

A Siliconera report from September revealed that Kingdom Hearts III Director Tetsuya Nomura said in a Famitsu interview that development of the game was going smoothly, but that Square Enix seemed to be having "some sort of design problems due to engine-related issues." Those issues, it turns out, are related to the decision to switch from the internally-developed Luminous game engine to Unreal Engine 4.

Tai Yasue said

"A lot of painstaking detail - the shadows for example, the really vivid colours, that sort of thing - we couldn't really do at the beginning, so we had to remake/customise the engine and add a lot of parameters."

So they did have a few problems. I estimate this pushed development back by about 5%. However, in September 2014 Nomura left the FFXV team and started focusing on KH3 again.

This is when development started moving forward at a faster rate I believe. A pirate crew doesn't work as well without their captain does it?

Then in 2015 Nomura said that KH3 is in the advanced stages of development, so the basic structure or skeleton of the game is done. Now they are adding meat and skin and blood into the skeleton to make it work :D

So by the end of 2015 I'd say KH3 was about 30-35% done, anything greater than 40% is exaggerating it slightly. If you saw my last thread you'd understand a bit more :P

Thus, I predict by the end of this year KH3 will be about 60% done. This could be greater for a number of reasons:

2.8 will get released, it's been in development since August 2014 supposedly. With that game finished, all those people can come and work on KH3 :)

FFXV will be released in the summer or fall of this year. Square might bring over people from that team to work on KH3. The more the merrier.

What do you guys think?

It depends on when they aim to release it. If early 2017, it would be 80%-90%. Mid 2017 would be about 60%-70%, late 2017 would be about 50%.

Gotta say 60% at least, any lower and I'll be worried that it's either going to get rushed out the door unfinished for next year, or we'll have to wait for a 2018 or maybe even later release date.

My uncle's girlfriends' cousin's best friend's daughter's father works at Square and says the game is exactly 57.3% done as of today and will be at 68.9% by the end of the year.

I think you made a typo, you said early 2017 would be 80% done or 90% done, but mid 2017 would 60% done? If they are later on in the year wouldn't that mean the game would be more complete not less complete?

I agree with AzureAce

, and Shinobi. It doesn't seem likely for it to come out very late in 2018, but it seems too early for spring 2017. 60% is a good enough figure for the end of this year.

Nope, no typo. You misunderstood. You asked how complete KH3 would be at the end of this year. So, if they plan to release it mid-2017 then at the end of 2016, it would be 60%-70% complete. Early 2017 release: 80%-90% complete at the end of 2016. Late 2017 release: 50% complete at the end of 2016. So, if they don't plan on a simultaneous worldwide release, we may not get it until 2018.

Yeah, but if we do get it in 2018, it would be early on in the year.

Ahh I understand now, thanks for clearing that up :D

Not going to happen. They more likely will go to work with Tabata´s next game, which he already have some ideas about.

EDIT: As for your question, I would say it´ll be about 65%-75%.

They've stated before that Tabata and his team will help develop Kingdom Hearts 3 after they have finished Final Fantasy XV.
