are there keyblades in the middle?

Possibly, hmk made a theory on it but it hasn't been revealed as far as we know.

So far all we know is that there are Keyblades from the Realm of Light, Keyblades from the Realm of Darkness, and Keyblades from the Heart. As far as we know these are the only ones, since they are the only things mentioned in the legend of the Keyblade War. But who knows, either it's something that hasn't been discovered yet or it's something just hasn't happened yet. There could be a chance that something like that could happen, but since really all the Realm of In Between is is just the border or transition between the Light and Dark realms there's also a high chance that it doesn't get it's own Keyblade itself. It's hard to say, but it will all depend on how they want to keep changing up the lore as the series goes on.

 

But since the Keyblades of Heart are technically a new third type of Keyblade, you could argue that it's a Keyblade you could obtain ANYWHERE, so in a sense you could obtain a Keyblade of Heart within the Realm of In Between...it just wouldn't specifically come from that realm.

Hmm, that's a very good question!  Well, I'm guessing that logically, since there are Keyblades of Light and Darkness, there should be those Keyblades that stand on the middle ground!  But we haven't seen such a Keyblade as of yet!

He was talking specifically about the Keyblade featured in KH, it doesn't necessarily mean that that is the only way to summon KeybladeS of Heart in general.

Well I guess that fits, but since it's still such a relatively underexplored part of the lore, I wouldn't be surprised if Nomura threw a few more rules in there. I mean, this Keyblade to Restore People's Hearts kind of sounds like a Keyblade of Heart on it's own, and odds are they aren't going to just try to take the Princesses' hearts out, that would just be pointless. Odds are they might have some other way of bringing this thing about. Don't forget that Xehanort only knew so much about the Keyblade War and it's aftereffects. Most of it turned out to be true, but there are only so many conclusions you can make with such limited data. I still think there's enough wiggle room left over for Nomura to fit in some sort of exception.

But didn't Nomura say a couple years ago that the Key to Return Hearts "may not be a Keyblade" at all, but something else entirely? I could swear I remember reading that on the home page at some point.

If you can find that it would be great, but there's several ways you can read into that, and it's really hard to take Nomura's word on anything before we see it. Sometimes he even changes the answers and they don't add up (I'm still pissed over that whole Castle Oblivion incident in 358/2 Days thing, he just made it sound so contradicting ), so it won't really be clear till KH3 comes out.
