Not an action RPG but get Danganronpa.

The 3rd birthday

Ys: The Ark of Napishtim

Final Fantasy 1-4

Crisis Core: Final Fantasy 7

Not sure if all of these are action RPGs, but they are RPGsCrisis CoreDissidia 012Tactics Ogre: Let Us Cling TogetherFinal Fantasy Tactics: War of the Lions

I would highly recommend Crisis Core. It's an amazing game, and the story is incredible. Another good one may be Star Ocean. I've played only a little of it myself, but I really liked what I had played of it. To be honest there really aren't many RPGs on the PSP, but hopefully you'll find a couple of gems. : ) Good luck!

Just a tip if you do choose to play Crisis Core(I recommend it as well), when you are tired of random encounters, just hug the wall.

This trick will make it so you don't enter  random encounter if you do this right, and works for most areas(It works perfectly for circular areas)

Also, if you care about difficulty, I would recommend to play hard mode. The game is pretty easy on normal, especially if you use materia fusion constantly.
