Nintendo has reveled why the NX wasn't at E3.

Posted

Honestly if they are that scared of the NX being copied, then it's going to have gimmicks up the butt.... But I still don't think that that's a good excuse for it to not be there because if someone is going to copy you, then they are going to copy you regardless. I doubt though that anyone would because Sony and Microsoft have been burnt by doing that, Sony with the PS move, but it looks like they are re-purposing it with VR and Xbox with the tablet link thing. So yeah this confirms that there will be a gimmick to the NX for all of you that thought that there wasn't going to be one.

They've been saying for a while now that the NX is being kept so secret because they want to avoid having it copied, so I guess in hindsight its lack at E3 wasn't too surprising.

And while copying the technology is inevitable, I do think there's a bit of cleverness in the way they're doing this; Sony and Microsoft are still at the tip of the iceberg with their VR tech, so letting them get neck-deep and more invested in that before the NX drops actually isn't a bad plan. It limits their resources and gives them less time and money to invest in copying Nintendo's tech.

Whoever thought that the NX was going to be any different from recent Nintendo consoles and that it wouldn't have a gimmick or include whatever those rumors come up with, is delusional.

Until the end of the year when all of the things that Sony and Microsoft have been working on will have come out and they receive money for it just 3 months before the NX releases and then their hands will be free.

NX is going to fail just like the Wii-U did. They are doing EXACTLY what they did with the Wii-U. They're under-powering it to be less powerful than the PS4 and XBONE. Which is EXACTLY what they did with the Wii-U. The NX will do good for the first year since it has Breath of the Wild. But it will die soon after that hype dies down.

Mark my words.

I don't disagree with you. It's tactics like this that cause me to worry about Nintendo. I mean, they showed off all of one game at E3: Zelda U. They have that and yet another two Pokemon games: Sun and Moon, which will no doubt be the same bullshit that they've done for so many years now. Hell, Breath of the Wild could be absolutely phenomenal and warrant numerous 10/10 Ratings...but not only is it only on Nintendo Consoles, it's their only viable game. And if it fails and/or turns out to be disappointing, or even flat out bad...then they're screwed.

The company itself may not die, but at that point they may decide to withdraw from the Gaming Industry. And that will be a sad day, but they would only have themselves to blame. :/

Oh joy, this reeks of gimmicks.

Nintendo is feeling a lot like SEGA back when they made consoles.

Not true at all. They showed off quite a few games, in fact. Ever Oasis (completely new IP), Dragon Quest VII: Fragments of the Forgotten Past, Rhythm Heaven Megamix, Paper Mario: Color Splash, Tokyo Mirage Sessions #FE, Monster Hunter Generations, Yo-Kai Watch 2, Pokemon Go, and more. People are just still going off of false information that was given before the conference. They've also stated that they're doing their best to give the NX a great launch line-up so it won't be a repeat of the Wii U's launch, they just won't reveal those until the NX itself is revealed. I don't see how any of this adds up to evidence that they'll pull out of the gaming industry.

Yeah well the majority of the games you listed are for the 3ds, which is fine, but the 3ds is a side console and it's meant to be that. The Wii U and NX aren't and the only games that they showed off for "them" was Zelda BotW, Tokyo Mirage Sessions #FE, and Color Splash and TMS #FE is the only Nintendo game for the Wii U until Paper Mario comes out, which people are going to hate and Zelda BotW is going to be the only Nintendo made game for the Wii U next year. The 3ds will be fine but it can't support the company by it self, plus the sales for it are low this year, but I'm sure it will bounce back.
