Posted August 23, 20169 yr I mean as much as I like Sonic, you have to admit that lately it has been very similar to Dragon Ball Z. Sonic is like Goku, Tails like Gohan, Knuckles like Piccolo, Shadow like Vegeta, and Silver like Trunks (I mean they're even both from the future!). They both focus on 7 items to gain something. For Sonic, they get 7 Chaos Emeralds to become Super Sonic. In DBZ they get 7 Dragon Balls to get a wish from a dragon. Another thing is that Super Sonic, and Super Saiyan are pretty similar, both have yellow spiky hair. I think Sonic is starting to take a turn away from that though because of the 2017 game and Sonic Mania. But I thought it was a very neat little comparison with these 2 franchises.

August 23, 20169 yr I woundn't say Sonic is DBZ,the story is not the same,DBZ is more about fighting and Sonic is about adventure and speed,but of course it certainly took some inspiration from it,like you said Super Sonic that one is obvious and one of the developpers of Sonic 06 said in an interview that Silver was basically Trunks.Story writters often do that,you can draw parallels with Stat Wars and Final Fantasy IV or VI,Metroid and Alien,DBZ and Superman,Dragon ball/Z and Final Fantasy IX

One of Sonic's creators is a self proclaimed DBZ fan and he confessed he used elements from the manga in the Sonic games starting with Sonic 2, the most obvious influences where Super Sonic's design and changing the Chaos Emeralds from 6 in Sonic 1 into 7 for Sonic 2 and beyond.
