SAG-AFTRA strike announcement includes Kingdom Hearts HD 2.8 Final Chapter Prologue

On October 21st 2016, SAG-AFTRA, which represents the rights and safety of voice actors in the video game industry, announced that negotiations regarding an update to their Interactive Contract, established in 1994, have fallen through. In protest to this turn of events, SAG-AFTRA have announced that they are going on strike against various companies who currently have games which entered production after February 17th, 2015.

Disney Character Voices, Inc. was included in the list of companies being protested. In addition, Kingdom Hearts HD 2.8 Final Chapter Prologue was among the specific video games listed. This means that any actor who is part of the union and who is currently working on Kingdom Hearts HD 2.8 Final Chapter Prologue must withdraw their services. SAG-AFTRA has also encouraged those who are not members of the union to participate, although their involvement in the protest is not mandatory. Due to the proximity of Kingdom Hearts HD 2.8 Final Chapter Prologue's release next year, it is unknown if this protest will have an impact on the game's voice acting and overall development. The official bulletin can be viewed here.

The strike will take place on Monday October 24th 2016, with SAG-AFTRA encouraging those who cannot attend to tweet or follow #performancematters in solidarity.

[UPDATED] Nintendo Switch revealed: Square Enix present on list of third-party partners, Unreal Engine 4 support confirmed

Nintendo recently released
for their new console, the Switch. While there was no footage of Kingdom Hearts III or Kingdom Hearts HD 2.8 Final Chapter Prologue within the teaser, Nintendo has released a graphic showcasing many of the console's third-party partners, where Square Enix can be seen. Additionally, as shown in the teaser, Bethesda's The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim was showcased extensively, so Nintendo seems to be embracing third-party developers much more than in previous console generations.

Update: Epic Games, one of the partners for the Switch, has confirmed that Nintendo's newest console will have Unreal Engine 4 support. This is the same engine used for Kingdom Hearts χ Back Cover and Kingdom Hearts 0.2 Birth by Sleep -A Fragmentary Passage-, and the engine that Kingdom Hearts III is being developed with.

Are you excited for the release of the Nintendo Switch? What do you think of the possibility of a future Kingdom Hearts game on the Switch? Let us know in the comments!

New footage and impressions of Kingdom Hearts Dream Drop Distance HD at Milan Games Week 2016

At Milan Games Week 2016, held from October 14th to October 16th, attendees were able to play through the Kingdom Hearts Dream Drop Distance HD demo. Two sources, GamerClick and Sora's Dream, captured a significant amount of footage from this event. This is the first time we have been able to see a great deal of footage from Kingdom Hearts Dream Drop Distance HD, as
was merely thirty seconds long.
GamerClick's footage, which was uploaded to their Facebook page, focused on Riku, showcasing the included Dive Mode segment, cutscenes from The Grid, and the lightcycle minigame. GamerClick's footage foregoes any field or battle gameplay within any of the included environments.

Sora's Dream, meanwhile, captured footage of Sora in Traverse Town, Riku's aforementioned Dive Mode segment, and footage of Riku within the field of The Grid. The Reality Shift mechanic was also shown briefly during the Traverse Town footage.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=pjyGuXBmsRM

Sora's Dream also gave their impressions of the demo. They noted that Kingdom Hearts 0.2 Birth by Sleep -A Fragmentary Passage- was not present at the venue, unlike all previous playable demos of Kingdom Hearts HD 2.8 Final Chapter Prologue. Additionally, the Drop Gauge appears to be entirely unchanged from the original version of Kingdom Hearts 3D Dream Drop Distance, giving a definitive answer to a question that many have had since the release of Kingdom Hearts HD 2.8 Final Chapter Prologue's TGS 2016 trailer.

Interestingly, Reality Shift seems to use the analog sticks to control its trajectory, rather than using the PlayStation 4's touchpad in order to mimic the design of the Nintendo 3DS version of the game. It is worth noting, however, that only one Reality Shift example (Traverse Town) is available, so it is unknown if the analog-focused design choice is applicable to the rest of the game's Reality Shifts. Finally, Flowmotion's speed, jump height, and responsiveness all seem to have been re-balanced to suit this new version of the game.

In addition to gameplay impressions, Sora's Dream also gave their thoughts on the game's graphical fidelity. They said that while textures have been touched up to a significant extent compared to the Nintendo 3DS version, model quality has not received the same level of treatment. Citing a poor amount of polygons, they referred to the models as "too sharp", a problem which also plagues Kingdom Hearts Birth by Sleep Final Mix HD.

You can read the full article here, but keep in mind that Sora's Dream is an Italian Kingdom Hearts fansite, and that translation may be necessary.

Nomura says TGS 2016 demo for Kingdom Hearts HD 2.8 Final Chapter Prologue was revised after E3; final product of KH2.8 still being worked on

In Tetsuya Nomura's latest interview with Dengeki PlayStation, he was asked whether or not the playable demo that was featured at Tokyo Game Show 2016 was essentially the same as the demo that had premiered at E3 2016 a few months prior. The Kingdom Hearts series director answered that the demo had been slightly revised, however, he also confirms that what was seen at TGS is also not representative of the mastered verson of Kingdom Hearts HD 2.8 Final Chapter Prologue.

Tetsuya Nomura also goes on to explain that the demo of Birth by Sleep 0.2 doesn't necessarily capture the entire experience either, saying that some of the footage shown in the latest trailer happens just ahead on the map past where the demo ends with different features.

When asked about the ties between how playing Kingdom Hearts HD 2.8 Final Chapter Prologue feels in terms of similarity to Kingdom Hearts III, Nomura explains that there's definitely a core of things that are similar but there are also things that can only be experienced when playing as Sora, such as being given the opportunity to change your Keyblade and have the game play change based upon that.

All interview excerpts were translated by Catherine Mueller ([email protected]).

Kingdom Hearts HD 1.5 & 2.5 ReMIX + HD 2.8 Final Chapter Prologue cover artwork have a hidden message toward Kingdom Hearts III

During an interview with Dengeki PlayStation, Tetsuya Nomura, director of the Kingdom Hearts series has revealed that the cover artwork for Kingdom Hearts HD 1.5 ReMIX, 2.5 ReMIX, & HD 2.8 Final Chapter Prologue all connect together as a hidden message for Kingdom Hearts III.

Tetsuya Nomura says that the 3 pieces of artwork start with Sora sitting, then standing, and finally walking. There is also a flow of time with the 3 pieces of artwork, where 1.5 is sunset becoming night, 2.5 is in the middle of the night, & 2.8 is night breaking into dawn. All of this connects to a hidden message for Kingdom Hearts III.

You can read Nomura's answer below, thanks to Catherine Mueller ([email protected]) for the translations.

While it is uncertain what this message is, this is something for fans to think about as we wait for the release of Kingdom Hearts III.

Tetsuya Nomura says Kingdom Hearts HD 2.8 Final Chapter Prologue will support 4K resolution through PS4 Pro, theme song for KH3 undecided, no new KH3 news till after KH2.8's release, & more in latest Dengeki PlayStation issue

In the latest issue of Dengeki PlayStation, which released on October 12th, 2016, Tetsuya Nomura, director of the Kingdom Hearts series, talks about some of his various upcoming titles, such as Kingdom Hearts HD 2.8 Final Chapter Prologue, releasing on January 12th, 2017 in Japan and January 24th, 2017 to the rest of the world, and Kingdom Hearts III.

The previous day before the interview had been released, hokanko-alt, a Japanese blog website, gave us a summary of Tetsuya Nomura's interview with Dengeki PlayStation. In the interview, Tetsuya Nomura has stated that Kingdom Hearts HD 2.8 Final Chapter Prologue will be PS4 Pro enhanced once again, however, he also states that the title will be in 4K as well. We're unsure if the 4K will be upscaled or native. Furthermore, Nomura states that the new remix for Kingdom Hearts 0.2 Birth by Sleep -A Fragmentary Passage- was able to be done as Utada Hikaru, singer of the Kingdom Hearts theme songs, had recently returned to her music work. A new theme song for Kingdom Hearts III is currently undecided, Nomura says. Aside from all that, Tetsuya Nomura has also confirmed that Kingdom Hearts III news will be released after the release of Kingdom Hearts HD 2.8 Final Chapter Prologue.

The interview has now been published in the latest issue of Dengeki Playstation and you can view an image of the interview below as well as a full translation thanks to Catherine Mueller ([email protected]). The sections focusing on Kingdom Hearts HD 2.8 Final Chapter Prologue and Kingdom Hearts III have been bolded.
