- Soren Monroe, Servant of Shiva's Will - Isopolis, The Second Trial: Cobra Attack - There was little time to think as, suddenly, the wall ahead gave way, revealing itself to be yet more crates as a humongous cobra came crashing through it, an equally large white basilisk being the perpetrator which, considering the emergence of Eclaire, Arthur and Princess Athena, had to be Helios attacking his prey. The monstrous reptile then hurled Basilisk!Helios across the room with fury, baring its fangs as it began an open-mouthed charge toward Soren, threatening to consume him whole. "Spread out!!" Soren bellowed, not wanting anyone else in the Cobra's path as he took a sizable backstep, then rolled to the right side and would attempt to stab the Cobra in its left eye, kicking against the beast with great force as to knock it off balance and delivering a slash to the soft underbelly should it be exposed. Soon after, Soren would wreathe himself in hellfire and transform into his Demonic Form, his claymore becoming engulfed in flame and his skin now hard as rock with blood of magma once again. "I hate to interrupt, lovebirds, but we have more pressing matters at hand!! Arthur, keep the Princess safe!" Soren ordered in a deeper, demonic voice, hurling a fireball at the Cobra's face as he did. "We're not about to let King Alderon down now!" He added, positioning himself to defend those who needed it. "Henry?! You still with us?!"

- Soren Monroe, Servant of Shiva's Will - Isopolis, the Second Trial: The Labyrinth - The 'Melchior' door led those who answered with his name to a Labyrinth of indeterminable scale and complexity, something Soren had anticipated yet was no less displeased, for this trial would now prove to be both irritating and dangerous. Though he couldn't help but think it might very well be worse for those who answered 'Gaspar', even though Soren didn't know his art history that well. Regardless, after a moment of thought, Soren decided to follow along with those who went down the rightmost path. "Good luck, everyone. And keep your ears open and eyes peeled." He advised to everyone, sticking with the smaller group down this path. Having come across a blockade of absolutely massive, heavy crates that would make a Behemoth blush, the Dreadnought, Henry Hansees, handed his sword off to the young Aura, before heaving one of the crates right above his head, the augmented strength of Human and Fey united supporting this feat. Soren could only be impressed on the outside, but inside, he felt as if he could shed a tear. However, the possibility of a trap was on Soren's mind as it was Rabiyu's, for he unsheathed his great claymore and lit his free hand with hellfire. "Some of us should keep an eye to the ground, the rest straight ahead and to the air above us...Isopolis may yet surprise us." Soren warned, then tilted his head toward Henry, but didn't look at him directly, wishing to stay aware of what was ahead. "Henry? Don't strain yourself." Soren spoke with a more urging tone, noting the weight of these boxes was immense and could prove too much for Henry in the long run, should he need to lift anymore. (Post for Meksis Flashback will come later.)

- Soren Monroe, Servant of Shiva's Will - Isopolis, The First Trial: A Goddamn Riddle - The guards perished from their wounds, despite Typhon and Henry only seeking to disable and wound, rather than pulverise and destroy. Though with how unnaturally strong the pair of them were, Soren figured them for prime candidates for opening a particularly tough jar of jam, while also fighting off a small army of manticores without really trying. "You couldn't even fight one such creature, Soren. And he was a skilled shapeshifter, don't build them up too much, now." Soren's internal rebuttal silenced his mind, before meeting Typhon's shoulder tap with a turn to face him. "Clearly, ones who are...ineffectual, at best. Hmm..." Soren folded his arms for a few moments as he reflected on how easily the Guards of Isopolis crumbled like dust...perhaps that was a reason why the role of Sentinel existed. "Though, if it helps, I did not hire them. Her majesty never gave me that much power. They would've been hardier warriors if I could choose them personally...yet, I can't help but feel that Fey of that stature would still be better suited on the battlefield, rather than guard duty." He went on to say, looking off to the deceased guardsmen, softly looking back at Typhon as he spoke. "Your snark is welcome, anyway. A little levity will keep us going, believe it or not." Soren added, giving a friendly pat on Typhon's shoulder. Now, they were at their first trial: A Riddle. Wonderful. Good idea, but were not Soren's cup of tea. Nevertheless, he analysed what lay before him, just as the others did.

Soren: Well, I never explicitly said that. It's but a rumour that those who fail have the chance of being soul trapped for their lacking. Though I'd hope it serves as suitable motivation.

- Soren Monroe, Servant of Shiva's Will - Mystran Raiding Party, Isopolis Exterior - Soren Monroe could not muster the words necessary to comment on what he had just witnessed. Nothing about Dawson's..."diversion" made sense to him and he could not dignify the moment with a response. He had been defeated by many things in the past and crushed opponents all the same...this was quite possibly his truest, most final defeat of them all, so he simply accepted it, albeit with a facepalm and moved on. Somehow more perplexing however, was the Human/Fey Dreadnought, Henry Hansees and the Last Cyph, Typhon, deciding to forgo the distracting "lu'au" and electing to attack the Isopolis Guardsmen. While it was working, it was definitely reckless. And pointless, as Odin proposed a good point. "Lord Raiden...if it helps ease the confusion wracking our minds...ye-yes. Yes I could've talked to the Guards. I had a good relationship with them, treachery or no...now?" Soren sighed deeply. "They'll be picking their teeth from the dirt in a few minutes. While we traverse a forbidden and legendary shrine's trials of ordeal." He spoke in a deadpan tone, being bothered more by this act of aggression than even the silly dance. Harrumphing to himself, Soren then gave a pat on the back to Odin, giving a small smile before putting his demonic helmet on. "Never mind, let us not dilly dally further, friend. I'll see you through these trials soon enough, as best I can." Soren stated with some confidence, a more lively tone than previous had taken hold. (Me and Scrap will resume the Meksis vs Maxis fight in flashbacks, in case anyone is curious. lol)

I'd say that: Meksis = Lawful Good/Defiled Meksis = Chaotic Neutral, initially Chaotic Evil Soren = Somewhere between Neutral Good and Chaotic Good with some of his decisions, mostly his recent ones. Nergal = At first, Chaotic Evil. Now? Strangely enough, Lawful Evil. I'll bet Mr. Raiden/Odin/Thunder Man is enjoying himself already. Now I gotta have my guys do something. Expect interaction, however brief, with Soren, Vaude.

In this world, we solve problems like dear old Kratos would: FIGHT AND CRUSH EVERYTHING! RAAAAAAAAAAAAAAGGHH! (I'll admit, it did take me by surprise that the solution to the Guards is to cripple them for life or murder them for doing their duty. Our character's morals are out of whack. )

I'd probably have Troy Baker for both minds of Meksis, the man has quite the range like his brother from another mother, Nolan North. J. Grant Albrecht for Nergal, I'd say, for the unnaturally soothing and yet oh so wrong voice he has. (Similar to Father Balder from Bayonetta, who was voiced by the same guy. Three guesses why I picked him.) Soren? He's a little tricky. I've always heard Soren in my mind as a deeper voiced man, such as Richard Epcar, though he might be excessively deep, like getting Paul St. Peter to voice a schoolgirl. Any ideas? lol

For fear of accidentally godmodding to see through the guise of Odin, I'm going to edit my own post. (Which I'd imagine is what you're politely telling us to do. ) Soren has known Raiden for a while, but not long enough to believe this change in demeanor to be anything close to untrustworthy, though his calm after being "attacked" is still open to scrutiny by those present. Regardless, I'm sorry about that. On a separate note, a good betrayal by Odin should he decide to and the consequences that follow would actually be awesome, because there are definitely characters here who won't expect it at all, it'll make for a good moment. Just my fifty pence.

- Soren Monroe, Servant of Shiva's Will (Just remembered that technically, Eclaire would be the Will of Shiva.) - Mystras, Raiden's Odin's Villa - Mariel didn't say much, yet the few words spoken hurt Soren, serving as a grim reminder of his failings in life. Soren hardly had the best interactions with Angels in his life, it came with the territory, but he couldn't help but feel, or rather know, that his with this Guardian Angel were some of the worst he's ever experience in no small part to himself and an overbearing idiocy...one he was glad to be rid of as she leaned upon the wall. "More than you'd think or care to believe, Mariel. Those here only know of the Source of All Life because of me..." Soren then became apprehensive, guilt settling snugly upon his soul like an overbearingly overweight pet on his lap. "It may not mean much at this point, but for what it's worth...I am sorry. For all that I have done, angel." He spoke clearly, despite the butterflies in his stomach, initially looking away, but attempting eye contact should she accept when he uttered his apology, regret plastered all upon his countenance. Like Mariel and others present however, Soren too felt a disturbance in the force when someone entered the room, one that only conveyed an eerie weight upon the otherwise calm atmosphere, for it felt...wrong, though it paled in comparison to that of Shiva's Assassin, it still stirred his gut. It wasn't long before he laid eyes upon the source of his unease: It was...Lord Raiden? The Lord of Mystras was immediately different to Soren and eerily reminiscent of something, or someone, he had heard of before. A grasp of his arm did little to surprise Soren, who had already been shocked into reality, though he met Helios's gaze with a soft head turn. "I know...I felt it too, Helios...take it slow, he seems shaken." Soren warned, eyeing Raiden closely as Helios approached, ready to act if necessary. He couldn't quite put his finger on what really made him uneasy, but for the sake of giving an old friend the benefit of the doubt, Soren waited for Odin to explain himself. Despite his stated observation, Soren noted in his head that Raiden was uncharacteristically calm, for having a severe eye injury. - Meksis, the United, Armour of Twilight - Kilkis Seres, Palace Gates, Battle of Two Brothers - Though his attack was successful, the damage to Maxis's face simply regenerated as he blocked Meksis's final attacks, holding his weapons in place, right before teleporting behind Meksis, who stumbled, then swiftly turned to face Maxis, who had neglected to do him the same honour. But then, something happened that shook Meksis to his core: Ariel's energy began manifesting from Maxis's body...her exact power, her essence, captured by his blood brother in perfect emulation. Meksis took a step back in shock, but before he could say anything, Maxis flashed in front of him and successfully delivered a crushing uppercut, knocking Meksis firmly on his posterior, rolling across the ground for a bit as he struggled to get back up, for Maxis had somehow winded a suit of armour, leaving him 'coughing' as he tried to listen to Maxis from then on. As he spoke, Meksis slowly began to pick himself up from the ground. "I only remember...the swiftness...o-of going from life...to deactivation...nothing more about the process, *cough*, because, u-unlike other second generations, I was willingly deactivated...that...that much was certain..." Meksis then wiped residual Madness Energy from his chest, letting out a weak chuckle when Maxis reminisced over his absorption of the Mad God. "Indeed...*dry cough* How he screamed...!" Any potential joy however was taken away when Maxis mentioned Ariel's return, as a twisted, fallen angel, who had to be put out of her misery by a now grieving Maxis. The Illusionist then utterly surprised Meksis, when he explained that he had to consume Ariel as well...hence her aura persisting amidst his own strengths. The passing mention of a "Third Generation" of Armours didn't help either, with the only successful Third Gen being lost just as all other armours were besides he and Maxis. Though it was the subsequent breakdown over his most recent Master, Shiva, that began to elicit a feeling that Meksis wasn't usually allowed to feel... Fear. Meksis tried to get a word in, gesturing insistently at Maxis, who ranted, raved and despaired over Queen Shiva, beginning to lose himself entirely to misery before Meksis's very eyes...until the unthinkable happened. Maxis surrendered to the Mad God's Will. The Mad God spoke through his newfound puppet as he simply gestured, forcing Meksis to a knee with sheer force of power, not being able to react fast enough to defeat the kick to the face, thus, Meksis was sent flying once more, grunting in pain as the God raved on once more, spitting on Maxis's name and by extension, Shiva and Ariel. As he attempted to get back up, Mad!Maxis flashstepped behind Meksis and punched him in the back, sending him flying once more, but this time, Meksis's aura flared and he righted himself in mid-air, extending both wings afterward as he floated back down to the ground, anger now at the forefront of his heart. "So long as I live, Maxis will never be gone!!" Meksis declared, summoning his weapons back to his hands in a brilliant display of Light and Darkness. "But now I have no choice...but to not hold back my full strength, Mad God!" Soon, something occurred to Meksis, but he would ask this later, as he immediately charged at the Mad Maxis, preparing another frontal sword barrage. When he went for the first swing however, Meksis feinted with a feather-ridden teleport behind Maxis, then to his left, right, front, then finally back again with a crushing elbow to the spine almost instantly after he did, followed with a reverse shield bash and a Stinger, a flash-step like charge with the point of his blade toward Maxis, to knock him down again. "I only ask one thing of you...what is your true name, God of Madness and Chaos Incarnate?" For reasons unknown to anyone present, the Defiled reared his head for the last words, clearly as enraged as Meksis himself at this whole ordeal. - Nergal, the Queenslayer - Kilkis Seres, Royal Palace, All Alone - As Yevgeni made himself clear, Nergal could only sigh, but not in exasperation, rather regret. Despite his intentions, he had left a bad taste in the Elf's mouth, so he gave Yevgeni a reassuring shoulder grab and spoke softly. "All right, fair enough...you've made your point abundantly clear...I shouldn't have embarrassed you, my friend. I withdraw my previous comment and wish to say that I am sorry, Yevgeni. Above all else, I want you to be sure in your trust and faith in my abilities and my care for you." Nergal got the sense that Yevgeni didn't quite know how to be a friend, per say, not all learn the intricacies so quickly if at all. It had also become apparent that Yevgeni either forgot or didn't know that Nergal could sense a persons inner turmoils. If he could sense Ariana within Henry, then he could sense Yevgeni's faltering trust in Nergal that he was trying desperately to hide. He would not tell him this however, for Nergal hoped he could instead rekindle this trust over time, perhaps as they left for Isopolis. "Shiva was...many things to me, as well. A Monarch. A Mother to her child. A mighty warrior. An...unfortunate victim of circumstance. My, delight, was overwhelming emotion boiling over to the surface, Yevgeni. For five thousand years, I've not known what it is to truly...feel, until my battle with a man called Alastor, the Storm Bringer. He brought me within an inch of my life and in that moment, I never felt more alive. So much so, it restored all that I had lost when Meksis abandoned me." Even if Yevgeni didn't feel up to being open with Nergal right now, Nergal hoped his own confessions would help in this matter. "But it truly was overbearing for quite a while, my friend. The slightest thing would bring me much in the way of feelings, so imagine what it was like taking a life? More to the point, a life of such grandeur? Of such, resplendence? I did indeed take joy in it, at first at least...yet now, I miss her. I hardly knew her, but I can feel the Overworld's pain...and it has become my own. I know it had to be done and I would do it again, Yevgeni. I promise you that. I too would rather put this behind us, comrade." Nergal then gestured kindly to Yevgeni as he had to depart to meet with the Noble Retainer of the Queen, to explain his current "plight" to dissuade her and allow them to press on with the final stages of their plan.

I would have to disagree with the 'cheapening of death' notion often associated with reincarnation, resurrection and other such methods. If done effectively, the reversal of a characters death can be as emotional as their deaths, or at least, a nice moment. Just sayin'.

- Nergal, the Queenslayer, Guise Broken - Royal Palace, Kilkis Seres - Henry continued to defy the expectations of Nergal with each word spoken, the dreadnought proving to be more than just armour and power incarnate, or an experiment let loose from its chains, but rather he was a man and a complex one at that in Nergal's eyes. Truly, he was impressed, for Henry didn't just think with his fists to claim revenge on a world that had wronged he and his people, potentially resulting in an early, painful death, but when he had to, he would fight with words...and often times, Henry could win decisively. Nergal's thoughts were shaken and his bones rattled as Yevgeni spoke out coldly, a tranquil fury that took him by surprise. Yet the overarching feeling Nergal held wasn't regret or fear, but instead it was shock. Shock of a more, offended variety, as he merely turned slowly to face the Regent, his expression telling of his feelings without a hint of his hiding it. "My place?!" Nergal simply exclaimed, his voice rose if but a little, composure breaking equally so as he practically spat his last word at the elf he considered a friend, not his master without faults. Elia's rant at Yevgeni's expense followed soon after, catching the attention of all present, Nergal in particular eyed her curiously, for her burst of rage against the elf surprised him and intrigued him, her final words screeched at Yevgeni before she hastily departed, Henry in tow as the Regent left them with parting words and most importantly: Alone with Nergal. "This was a waste of time. I should never have allowed him within these halls, Yevgeni. I am...sorry." Nergal calmed down quickly, but his apology reeked of disdain, a feeling he didn't care wasn't subtle, walking over to pick up his mask once more, heading back to Yevgeni's position and prepared to follow him if he chose to begin leaving the room. "Elia's words won't matter anyway. And Henry? Hmph, who in our world will listen to a Hybrid? No matter how well spoken he might be, he's still...too human, for their liking." He attempted to reassure Yevgeni that his revelation in front of their guests wouldn't impact their plans at all, though to be sure, Nergal went on. "Regardless of any of that, might I remind you of something? The Source of All Life is available to us now, we need only head to Isopolis as soon as we can...then? We can do whatever we need to do, even put so much of this behind us." Nergal's face then took on a rather thoughtful expression for a few moments, looking off to the side as he did unconsciously, looking Yevgeni directly in the eyes again to resume. "I don't appreciate being spoken to in such a way, Yevgeni. I am your friend first, not a servant or dare I say, a slave. True friends, I believe, tell each other when they are wrong about something, have done something incorrectly or need reminding of what world they live in, pride be damned. My words were harsh and I make no apologies, but know it was in your best interests...as is what I'm about to ask you." Nergal spoke sincerely, though his expression became a little...sullen? Sorrowful? A combination of this and great interest indeed, for something was wracking about in his head for a long time, ever since he first came into Yevgeni's life and learned of his desires. He then stood nearer to his friend, not too close, but still he would persist, before he would speak once more. "You took me on, in my earliest days of truly living after not knowing what it really felt like for five thousand years, since Meksis left me as a vessel. If you're lucky, you'll live as long one day, you and Soren. Both of you, you saw the war between your race and the humans. Neither of you perhaps met each other during said battles, but the two of you came out with your own perspectives. I know of Soren's from all that I've heard, but yours? Some of it remains a mystery. I know your thoughts of them aren't the greatest, but something related to it all is something I don't know...but I want to, ever since you first tasked me to kill her." Nergal's eyes narrowed, as he took another, deeper breath, before beginning his pry into his friend's motives. "I know who she is to Soren. But what about you? Who is, or rather was, Queen Shiva to you? Really?" (Slight retcon to Soren's past, I know. But I realized he's old enough to have fought in the War, though he didn't necessarily meet Yevgeni during it, so there it be. Sorry if that's bad, I'll alter if so.) - Soren Monroe, Will of Shiva - Raiden's Study, Mystras - The study settled down in the wake of preparation for their journey to Isopolis, for it seemed many present had taken Soren's advice in mind and were at least mentally fortified for the trials ahead. Nothing could truly prepare them for what that forbidden, sacred shrine could throw their way, Soren's home field advantage was minor at best in the grand scheme of things. Though it was the arrival of another into Raiden's Study that caught Soren's attention, snapping him out of a potential stupor. The Guardian Angel, Mariel. Immediately, Soren felt a tinge of shame. Despite his loyalties lying firmly with Shiva's Will now, as such, with Lord Raiden as well, Mariel bore witness to his second betrayal and didn't take kindly to it, forcing Soren to act during the massive conflict to protect his Queen, had the Angel not been as aware as she was, Soren would've taken her wings off. Mariel already detested demons, as her words suggested when she spectated his floundering and had had enough. Soren imagined she wouldn't be all too happy if she really saw his face, thus he would brace himself as much as he could for any oncoming words and emotions. - Meksis, the United, Armour of Twilight - Palace Gates, Battle of Two Brothers - All except the Summoned Blades had hit their mark, with the latter giving way to Maxis's incredible speed and allowing him to appear to Meksis's shield side and assail him with a powerful, shadow-infused punch, followed by many explosions thrust from it. He blocked what he could, but the last few explosions threw off Meksis's guard, allowing Maxis's next attack, a dagger flurry, to cause some problems. In his initial stagger, Meksis's shield happened to be in front of Maxis's first strike, but the force combined with the shadow energy immediately threw him off-balance, attempting to counter during the vicious assault as much as he could. A fair few strikes hit Meksis directly, one scraping past his sword arm, singeing it with a shadow burn, while a few others impacted his chest and shoulder, with Maxis clearly taking advantage of the weight of Meksis's mighty shield. By the end of the attack, Maxis followed with a shoulder charge, but Meksis was able to meet him halfway, tanking it with his own shoulder, yelling aloud as he thrust him back, allowing him to prepare for the next, rapid attack. This however, was a feint...followed by another feint. Both Meksis's remained diligent, the third feint being unsurprising, but what followed certainly was: Maxis was within Meksis's shadow below him, having taken hold of his foot and preparing to unleash the shadow energy he had been charging the whole time, something both minds noticed. Meksis was no less shocked, as he frantically thrust his shield in front of him, just barely supporting it with his blade crossed over the back to withstand the powerful explosion of energy. The sheer ferocity of it did allow some excess energy to run past the shield and onto anywhere exposed, causing minor damage to Meksis's body, but now he had a surprise in mind. "Let me show him Darkness, brother!" "Suit yourself..." Meksis pulled his weapons in a little closer, briefly, before splaying his shield and sword outward to his sides, while doing so, the Defiled 'came out to play', Meksis's "eyes" going blood red as an expulsion of a strange, dark force, that distorted the air in front of Meksis as he seemed to...roar, in an inhuman, wraith-like fashion, before hastily and manically smashing the edge of the shield into Maxis's face repeatedly, before shaking his foot loose and backstepping rapidly, calming down as it were, with his brief surge in darkness returning to his united body. "You refer to Ariel, do you not? I remember her, Maxis. I remember many of our old friends, Armours, Angels, even Demons." Meksis spoke a little more calmly, but his voice still assertive, his tone harsh as he beheld his twisted, yet strangely perfected opponent as his Prime Armour seemed to glow, almost with its old glory. "I remember the pain. And the fear. Watching her descend before our eyes, being dragged down to save our proverbial skins. She always had a fascination with what laid beyond the dark veil...but I imagine she never thought she'd learn the way she did..." He reminisced, speaking solemnly as he remembered said fallen angel. Once an Angel who bore the Blessing of Curiosity, yet sometimes it was quite the curse. Always smiling, yet her head was often found behind a book, a scroll, some kind of intriguing or sacred text, she was compelled to learn more. One fateful day however, she, along with Meksis and Maxis, found themselves needing to seal a breach in reality itself, leading to a darker, infinite realm that threatened at the very least, invasion by shadowy, monstrous creatures. The three of them engaged with all manner of beings, for despite being a serious bookworm, Ariel was no pushover in combat. Her light burned away the darkness wherever it stood, while Meksis protected his friends and slew his foes and Maxis crushed and slaughtered those monstrous yet stupid enough to look at him funny. When it came to sealing the tear, everything went wrong. The breach fought back against all of them, seeking to drag them down into its realm if it was to be closed up. Fight and try as they might, neither armours had much hope of escaping its pull. "Hmm. I remember that very day clear as crystal, Maxis. We were being dragged into the Realm of Umbra, an endless pit of darkness and shadow. We couldn't seal the portal without it fighting us...Ariel, she got clear before it got a grip of her as well but we just couldn't cut free in time." Meksis settled down, though his guard was still up, his voice calmed, one could swear they saw a smile as he remembered the old days, though it would give way to sadness soon enough. "She was so selfless. No hesitation as she jumped in and freed us with her power over light, so bright the darkness recoiled in agony! At the time, mine was nowhere near as bright, not even today can it hope to match that splendor!" Meksis then became incredibly wrought with sorrow, his eyes half-closing as he did. "For as much pain as it was in, there was no denying its hunger. Latching onto her, covering her mouth as to prevent her from speaking any more incantations, we just...we couldn't save her. All Ariel could do was...w-was, hold out her hand, as if she were saying... "Don't worry about me."...I am almost grateful I don't have tear ducts anymore, brother. I've not finished weeping for her in thousands of years." Meksis's hands clenched their weapons once more as his 'expression', became more furious, his aura igniting once more into a fury, the wings of his duality extending as he took a few steps forward. Speaking so ill of Ariel, spitting on her memory, it was the doing of the Mad God surely, but Meksis was now wrapped, taken by his anger, at such disrespect during battle. "So do not dare to taunt me, at her expense!!" Meksis bellowed in barely contained rage, charging at Maxis with the fury of two powers, a sword strike barrage would take place as he rapidly closed the distance, slashing and bashing at his blood brother with the might of Light and Darkness clawing and slashing at his armoured body. (Whew, long post.)

No doubt Nergal was left disappointed indeed. --------------- (To make light of a really rather serious moment here... lol) Nergal trips over his robes, his feyslayer clattering to the ground while he falls in amusing fashion, borderline a pratfall, amusing all involved, Soren needing to stifle his chuckles.
