So I am a newbie when it comes to Pokémon. Okay I made that up. I played Ruby and Emerald long ago and that was it for me. However, I have been watching the show as of late. I have even seen episodes here and there from other seasons. I also couldn't help, but see a few episodes of Pokémon Origins. I read about Red and his quest in Kanto to capture every Pokémon there. I can't help, but wonder if he will ever show up in the main anime as the legend he has been portrayed. The reason why I wonder this is because Pokémon Sun and Moon come out in November and the anime begins to air in Japan at the same time. It airs in North America in 2017. I couldn't help but think of Red possibly appearing in the 20th season and play some kind of role there. Maybe he could battle Ash or something like that. What do you think?

That would be very interesting, ya know?  I mean, I myself haven't watched all the seasons of the Pokemon anime, the only one that I watched for quite a bit was Pokemon Diamond/Pearl, but even with that, I never finished watching it!  But yeah, it would be interesting if Red appeared and served as a sort of rival to Ash to spur him to truly become the best in the whole world, ya know?

Take it from a person who life is basically filled with Pokémon, ain't going to happen no matter how much we want it to. Pokemon Origins and Generations take place in different universes from Ash's anime series, and so Red probably doesn't even exist in the real Pokémon anime, because Ash was supposed to be its version of Red. The Origins and Generations universes are universes based more in the video games, so it's like anime versions of the video games, whereas Ash's anime follows loosely on the games and mostly comes up original ideas and things that are not of the games. And in Delta Emerald in Omega Ruby and Alpha Sapphire, it pretty much confirmed that Pokémon is set in a multi-verse. So Pokémon Origins and Pokémon Generations are in their own separate universes and those universes are also separate from Ash's universe. So because of this, we will probably never see the real Red in Ash's anime.

Red is from the video games, Ash was made to appeal to kids for the anime. They're both from very different universes. Even if they did battle, it would be a really one-sided battle on Red's part given that he's the second most powerful trainer in the world (I'll always argue that Gold is #1) and Ash usually doesn't even evolve his Pokemon. Rather than have Red show up in the main anime, I would personally say that it'd be better if he was given his own full-length series in the same vein as Origins or Generations, and was then switched out for Gold and the other protagonists as the series went on. Ash can stick to the more kiddish version of the series, whereas the actual game characters would fit well for a more "mature" Pokemon anime for those of us that have been around longer and want something new.

Yeah, that would be interesting, but I just don't see it happening. I've been watching the anime on and off since I was 8, and although the newer seasons don't have the same charm as the original, some of the episodes are entertaining. Origins was most likely made for older fans who quit following the anime due to Ash not aging/winning leagues or whatever.
