Former Sony Exec says that it's too late for the Vita. Well OF COURSE it's too late for the system...and for many reasons mind you. First off Sony never gave it good support nor did any 3rd party devs. Well Sony pretty much advertised it more as an add on to the PS3/PS4 than it being its own handheld console. Which is a shame because I fully agree that the PS Vita is waaaaaaay better than the 3DS as far as hardware goes. I got to try out the PS Vita before and it's tech was amazing and easily blows the 3DS out of the water. So they honestly should have tried harder to make it seem more like its own handheld than some exxtra add-on. Also let's not forget to add the fact that the memory cards for it were insanely expensive. That wasn't a very smart move on their end and only made them look gready (and yeah I know they're a business company but still those prices for memory cards were bad) And there were so few games that were worth buying for the Vita like Gravity Rush, MGS HD Collection, FFX/X-2 HD, Persona 4 Golden, ect. Most of the games in its library were either indie titles or PS1 ports on the PS Store. So yeah I can agree with this statement, the Vita was a good system with a lot of potential but Sony failed to make it appeal to people outside Japan.
