I always kind of thought of myself as a nice person. I always go out of my way to be nice to everyone and make peace even before anything potentially happens. That's why if I act like a dick to someone, it's usually warranted.
Longer short of it, I acted like a dick to someone on Se7enSins and got the banhammer. Do I admit to that? Sure! Did I deserve it? Well...I don't know. Hence the pet peeve. When you're banned, you generally lose all access to the forum - even the ability to read threads and posts.
But know what really irks me? The fact that the mod or admin who banned you always sends you a PM beforehand, then immediately bans you. I assume the PM explains the why, the duration - who knows! But what the hell is the bloody point if you can't even read it!?
Nevermind the fact that you're not even given a chance to, if nothing else, explain yourself. The fact is, you're prohibited from even glimpsing at the reasoning behind it, despite the fact that you supposedly received it. That's like....getting arrested for some petty crime, then being court-appointed a lawyer who only speaks German.
So! Mods and admins of KH13, how do you guys get around this issue? Do you simply prevent the banned from making any new posts, but still allow them to read? Or....are you guilty of doing the same?
Be honest. I won't judge! ....Probably.
For the record, I'm a mod on an FF site, and in my years I've only ever had to ban three accounts. Two of them were the same dude, naturally, who had a serious grudge against someone and was making death threats - there's really no deliberation there. And the third was a guy who was peppering his posts with weird foot fetish crap - it wasn't a bot because he was active in actual discussions, just kept adding links and pictures to them. Soo...I had a discussion with him, he claimed he was "sick" so I locked his ability to make new posts and told him when he was feeling "better", he can just PM me and I'd give his permissions back. That never did happen, but...what did I tell you? I said I was nice!
