I feel like the article is trying to phrase this as in they are confident he will win in the context of that is what they want.

The questions about how confident they are in him winning are sort of phrased like its regardless of whether or not they want him to. And aside from the small sample used in the poll there is a feeling that people have that he might win again but not for the reasons they would like.
