I liked platforming and spinball better.

Playing a sonic game should always have you on the ropes, like you should constantly be figuring out whether to go high or low, and the low road should always be more dangerous

And the high road should always be low risk high reward

Although, I guess the newer ones have that advantage of not being so linear and having multiple angle views.
