Slotting in quartz seems to have certain elemental values, and when you have certain values that unlocks arts, I think.

Ah, can also afford one armor upgrade.

Which seems to be a better purchase than boots despite them having no boots.

Since it's +5 defense +2 art defense

Vs just.

+5 defense.

For the same price.

I also did a little research and apparently because of how damage scaling on arts works, mid to late game the low tier spells are almost as good as the high tier ones for way cheaper to cast? ;D

Because the higher ones don't scale better, they just have higher base damage.

Which is very F.

One thing I really wish this game had though, is moving to a specific point for an attack instead of having to just. Charge straight to them and hit.

No I mean like.

Say an enemy is right in front of you.

Move to their right, then attack.

As it is, you seem to only be able to attack and move if the movement is moving directly at them.

Considering attacks also move enemies it'd open up a lot tactically ;D

the later titles kinda change up combat a bit but it is always simple enough for me to follow, which should give you an idea of how easy the games will be for you

especially since the games tend to get easier as you progress

We'll see.

I did possibly shoot myself in the foot going NIGHTMARE MODE and all.

there are some select fights i think you'll struggle with

but you seem to have a decent grasp on the mechanics already and are decent at rpgs in general, so i don't think it'll be too bad
