Non-voice protagonist works on certain series like Zelda where there is minimal dialogue

They MAY do a voiced protag. But they literally didn’t even have voice acting in 11 until it was brought over to NA

Persona or DQ on the other hand it really bad with it

The whole point of DQ is being a classic JRPG

I doubt it’ll ever step out of a silent protagonist

When you have every single character having an emotional moment in DQ11, then it doesn't work with a non-voiced protag

He just stands there....silently staring at them

Like.. it’s very existence is being a classic JRPG, and it’s been an inspiration to so many JRPGs after it

thats my point mup, if going forward the games will be voiced, give the protaga voice

Yea the JP version didn’t even have VA. They just thought us small brained Americans needed to hear someone talking or we would get bored

Serisouly, the grandpa finding his grandson should be a bit emotional in DQ11

But it's just very awkward instead

You watch your mouth

That scene is damn emotional

You say that but people find DQ11 very emotional

It’s just taste then at that point

Or preference I guess

Ye

The chemistry all the characters has is in my opinion one of the reasons I love the game so much

So if others didn’t get that. Idk

Btw, not saying DQ is the crown prince or that it’s the best ever series

See, I loved all the interactions in this game except with the protag

dude

seeing all this stuff going on

Because he is such a blank slate, there isn't any good chemistry between the protag and the other characters

then goes to protag for a blank face in SILENCE

he grunts ONCE

and thats as a kid

early in the game in a cutscene

And I am not saying the game isn't emotional, it just isn't when it's focusing on the protag

But it’s got its foundation and a legacy, as the series that basically bought RPGs into the mainstream for Japan basically and going on to influence others.. I doubt they’re gonna be changing it anytime soon

Since the protagonist is kinda just meant to be you

Tons of series have changed over the years, for better or worse

FF for example has changed drastically

There is absolutely no reason for DQ to not do the same

I do agree. The emotionless straight faced silent protag does take me out of it a bit. But not enough to make me dislike it. At LEAST if they keep silent protag. Make him a little more expressive

Expressive would be a step forward

Dude had like 3 faces in total in DQ11

Straight face, angry face and sad face

thats not even the reason i dropped it lol
