That’s fair, but order of release is generally king in most series even when they tell their stories out of order

Since prequels often assume you know what happens in stories set after

Like, KH1 is the only game that properly introduces what the Keyblade is

I would never, ever recommend starting a playthrough of the KH series in chronological order.

I think he’s fine. I started with 2 and i understood everything.

Do it in order of release, if you're going for all of them.

BBS just starts with three keyblade welders and you just gotta know what that even means

Not just Keyblade Wielders*, but there's *Masters, too.

Like, that's where the concept of Keyblade mastery is introduced.

Indeed

Tho I will also give credit to 2. While it certainly hopes you have played 1 and COM (and you honestly should for maximum enjoyment), being confused as to what the hell is happening in the opening kind of puts you right into Roxas’s position

I usually just tell people “Buy All in One and just follow the order of the menu”

Yeah it’s not hard, at least not anymore

That’s basically what I did. I got into the series right after 3 came out. All the hype surrounding the release got me intrigued so I got the HD collections in a bundle (All in One wasn’t a thing yet) and marathoned the whole series

My other common advice is “Skip Days and COM if you’re not feeling up to it. They’re not super important.”

Besides, Days comes in movie format on the compilation discs.

Watching cutscenes is a better substitute than reading/watching a summary

Starting with KH2 I think we can all agree, and maybe BBS are THE exceptions lol

Otherwise, just go release order

Don't be a bitch 😤

It’s not torture, like the games are fun lol

KH2 and BBS are major plot points. Starting with then is acceptable.

KH2 explains part 1 well. And com well, Sora doesn't even remember so it's fine lol

And before Chi BBS was the prequel, so, it was fine. Still works as a good starting point imo

But otherwise

Just go release order

Don't be a coward 😤

I attempted to start with COM and had no clue what was going on. Mistakes were made lol.

Buuut gba was all i had at the time soooo…

Uh thank Christ KH is so accessible now

Yeah isn't it nice when a series of games by a major Japaneae publisher are easy to access, allowing players new and old to easily find/discover, or go back to with minimal trouble?

glares direct eye contact at Atlus

Atlus: "What? You guys don't want more flavor-of-the-month spinoffs? Huh? What the hell is an...Innocent Sin?"

Atlus: “We’re going to release only one specific version of P3 despite the others having drastically varying content”

Just port me the old games motherfiretruckers STOP GIVING ME DANCING GAMES

don't even get me started on PQ...

Mm, Portable's actually my favorite version of 3, despite being minimalized because PSP.
