Yes, you don't see many no-hit KH1 fights as you do with 2

we need an earth spell

Also, you're right, KH1 enemies feel the best imo

feels like most ff games seem to be light on earth-based spells

Earth would be nice

Could be a defensive

i remember playing ff12 and seeing that some enemies were weak to earth but i had no earth spells and it seemed like the only way would be to use an earth-element weapon

(ff12 was my first ff)

See the enemies in KH1 were nice because you didnt have much to do against them regardless of how OP you are
like the big fish and wizards
The big fish need a huge hit to kill otherwise they pop into more little ones
the wizards need the same otherwise they go into Thunder mode and you cant hit them

Each enemy had defined patterns that could be beat but would also smack you up if you miss a jump, attack, or roll

which makes things fair

yeah im all for cool moves and frame perfect things of KH2FM. but it's mainly for bosses while the base heartless and nobodies are just EXP farms

which kinda makes them lose their overall impact that they had in the first place

This is why KH1's Coliseum is the best imo, the enemies come together in a much better way, where each combination something interesting

I agree!! also the theme song that you hear for hours is just generally better

it's also more than just gimmick fights

Remember the Pegasus cup where there are 3 fat bandits and 2 large bodies (or the other way round, can't remember) and it felt scary af

Just 5 big boys gonna kill you

Yeah, exactly

These combinations make it interesting

and even if they were annoying, the round with Angels and Invisibles? yeah that's nerve wracking especially solo

In KH2, you could combine say a Hammer frame and say another small enemy, and it wouldn't matter

Yeah I didn't like the minigame like requirements some parts of the collesium in 2 had

Only the really horrible ones matter, like Devastators and Crimson Jazzes

On another plus note I got the defender shield pretty quick. So that's one rare drop down now just the staff is all I need

It became a maximize points rather than maximize resources
cause of how MP and such worked

Like in KH1 if you dont bring enough ethers for magic, and you run out, then it's gonna be a possible bad time

In KH2, just wait and dodge until you can use a limit or drive to refill your health/drive so you can get that combo up

yay nice!!

KH2FM is a pretty techincal game I agree
but KH1 was not far off either with how you had to play to make sure you don't get hit or die

a lot of the Coli rounds you had to get a strategy in mind especially when you go solo/timed

Also, no reflect spam

seasalt_shinji

These are many of the reasons I still have fondness for KH1 combat

I really don't think it's aged as badly as everyone says
