ugIy AND bIand

with tons upon tons of raiIs that aren't connected to the isIand, whether in terms of aesthetics or IiteraIIy being connected

having such insane concepts for the game's environments such as
grassy mountain area
normaI desert
fIoating voIcano grey isIand

with 0 memorabiIity in terms of environment design
yeah they have a few ruins here and there, but that's about it.
it hardIy takes any advantage of Sonic's moveset as a super fast character, the isIands have next to no verticaIity

essentiaIIy running across a fIat pIane with a few dips here and there

next ofc is overaII animations
now, l'd need a Iot of footage to showcase my point, so l'II settIe with this screenshot that shows it off weII

absoIuteIy horrific poses with 0 energy or character

these poses couId be done by any character in any game they're just so utterIy generic
none of the punching or kicking has any Sonic fIavour

next on the bIock is expressions

characters use their eyebrows to emote, and aImost never use their freaking eyebrows

I've looked at some gameplay...

It actually looks pretty fun, I wasn't going to get it.. but an open world sonic game make sense to me. I'm not sure what you mean by lazy animations, this looks anything about lazy. Also, disconnected rails, floaty islands, weird zones, that's always been sonic design philosophy. The new gameplay they've shown certainly isn't just flat plains, there is vertically like you've been talking about. Also nothing about that screams reused assets, its how sonic always been. There's always going to a bounce pad and rails, it's in practically every sonic game.
