a lot of the gimmick stuff just wasn't good and it overall lowered the quality of the games. DS era and Wii era also suffered a lot from trash games. It's not that they weren't good games but a lot of games on these both console did a poor job implementing their main gimmick

Name ONE example of gimmick lowring the quality

everything in Zelda Phantom Hourglass just made the game objectively worse than any previous Zelda game that came before

because controlling link wasn't fun

most games I liked from this era barely had any touch or motion control stuff

but I have to say that Nintendo doing this pushed gaming in a lot of ways forward
