OH NO

> Not only has both of them never played the Yakuza games, but as Takeuchi revealed the team behind the new Amazon show actually asked them to avoid doing so. As he explained though, they had their reasons: "I know these games - everybody in the world knows these games. But I haven't played them. I'd like to try them but they had to stop me because they wanted to - for the character in the script - explore from scratch. That's why I decided not to play."

> Adding onto that, Kaku emphasized that whilst their show does continue the legacy of the games, they also wanted to put their own stamp on it. He concludes: "I definitely knew the property very well but I didn't realize the franchise was this globally big. We decided we would make sure we would do our own version, relive the characters, take their spiritual elements, and embody them on our own. There was a clear line we wanted to draw but everything on the bottom was respect."

Next Halo coming in HOT.

"explore from scratch", "put their own stamp on it", "do our own version"... then make a new show about yakuzas ?

is this an ego problem or ?

I mean, this is completely fine

The actor doesn't need to know the source, just the script and direction he gets

It's the writing team on the other hand that does need to know

that's a good point

But wouldn't that make it better?

Add some authenticity and passion to the show?

No, not really

I don't really care what the actor knows

A perfect example of someone who is a nerd is Henry Cavill

Despite him knowing about Superman, he couldn't act like him because of the script and direction he was given

So knowledge on the character or the source material does not matter

It just comes down to the writing

I don't agree fully. I think yes a good enough actor can do a good performance but I think it's important to understand a character you're interpreting or portraying

You have a better understanding of what is actually different from prior versions of that character

You understand the finer nuances

I know not every game adaptation is Halo but that wasn't just the bad writers that was that actor too.
